18.01.2022 - Fertilizing Indoor Plants - We all need a good feed and your indoor plants are no different. The two most common types of fertilizer used are liquid types, which are added to the water, and slow release which are placed on the soil surface. Fertilizers that are organic based are my preferred products although i'm sure other types are also effective. Diluted worm juice is also very good. Always follow the instructions on the packet as making the solution to strong can lead t...o scorching and even kill your plants. Feed regularly on a 2-4 week basis during the active growing of spring and summer. It is unnecessary to feed during the colder months as plants are not putting on any new growth. Using a liquid fertilizer as a foliar spray (where the leaves absorb the fertilizer through their leaves) is very effective but tends to be a bit messy in an indoor situation. 17.01.2022 We now have Chain of Hearts back in stock. This lovely hanging plant can be grown indoors where there is very good light. Being a succulent let them dry right out and then give them a good soak. Fertilise occasionally during the growing period (spring/summer) at half recommended indoor plant strength. Make sure they are kept well away from frost.

16.01.2022 INDOOR PLANT GROWING TIPS Potting mixes - After using many different types of potting mixes over the years i've found that i get much better results from (not surprisingly) the more expensive or premium varieties. Cheaper varieties often have a poor pH balance - being very acidic, have poorer drainage and tend to compact rapidly. The more expensive varieties have a better structure, suitable pH (5.9 - 6..2), contain slow release fertiliser and soil wetting agent to allow mo...isture penetration and retention. As is often the case, to get better results spend that little more and watch you plants flourish. Happy gardening. Guy @ The Bright Garden Gallery See more

07.01.2022 -INDOOR PLANT GROWING TIPS- Watering - From my experience of growing and selling indoor plants for many years the most common reason for indoor plant dying prematurely is due to over watering. During the warmer months plants need more water, and in the cooler months less water is required. Unfortunately people tend to maintain the same watering regime winter and summer. ... This leads to the potting mix at the bottom of the pot becoming soggy and anaerobic (no oxygen), then roots die off and the plant slowly dies. Browning on the tips of the leaves is a sure sign of over watering. Indoor plants will often indicate they need water by either the leaves drooping or cupping, so observe your plants and try to be aware of subtle changes. Finally, the simplest way to tell if your plant is in need of water is to touch the soil - if the soil sticks to your finger DON'T water, if it doesn't stick then DO water. 06.01.2022 - CLEANING YOUR INDOOR PLANTS - Having dirty and dusty leaves on your indoor plants not only makes them much less enjoyable to look at but also blocks out light and can harbour insects. Wash the leaves by supporting them from below and wiping the leaves with a moist cloth. Be careful so as to not break or bruise the leaves. Putting your plants outside when it's raining (or under a sprinkler if it's not raining) is good for giving them a clean and also very good for their heal...th but be sure to bring them in before the sun reappears as strong sunlight will burn delicate indoor plant leaves very easily. Do not use oils or polishes on the leaves as this will block the pores in the leaves and reduce plant vigor. Happy gardening Guy @ The Bright Garden Gallery See more

03.01.2022 - INDOOR PLANT TIPS- Humidity and Drafts - Indoors plants generally come from tropical areas and therefore do better in humid rather than dry environments. Keeping this in mind, be aware of where you position your plants, drafty doorways, windows and near heaters or central heating vents are a no no. Pebbles or gravel can be placed in the saucer under the plant and kept moist to increase the humidity. Lastly remember not to place your plants to close to windows during the c...ooler months as cold air drops of the glass. Happy gardening Guy @ The Bright Garden Gallery See more
