25.01.2022 G’day folks The Bushtukka Gardener and family will be at the Kalamunda Garden Festival this Sunday the 15th from 8am till 12. Come down and have a chat and check out all the plant stalls. I will have a great range of edible native plants for sale, including a limited number of Lemon myrtles. #thebushtukkagardener, #kalamundagardenfestival, #bushfoods, #ediblenativeplants

23.01.2022 A couple of my plants such as the Wild prune, native raspberry and the peanut tree always have these extremely neat little half circles cut out of the leaves. If your finding something similar, don’t be concerned as it’s actually the handiwork of the leafcutter bee. The bee uses the cut outs to weave little cradles for her eggs inside her nest. So no need to worry, but keep an eye out for one of our most fascinating native bees

23.01.2022 I love this plant, it’s easy to grow, hardy and self seeds easily around the garden. The bright little berries are great for kids when they are foraging around and delight us big kids too

22.01.2022 Broome will always have a special place for me having spent many’s years living there when younger. Unfortunately sometimes when you live in a place you forget to explore the beauty and history around you. This trip I want to learn more about the country, it’s stories and explore places as if it was my first time. Day 1, I arrived in Broome and that afternoon I was on a tour with Bart Pigram from Narlijia Experiences Broome. If you ever make it up this way I definitely recommend booking yourself on one of his tours. I had walk past these mangroves so many times all those years ago but never knew some of its history or the bushfoods that can be found.

22.01.2022 A couple of months ago this Bush basil was looking a little untidy, but since receiving a trim it hasn’t looked back. This is a really easy native herb to grow, and requires little care apart from a trim every now and again to keep it bushy. #Bushbasil, #bushfood, #thebushfoodgardener, #nativefood

19.01.2022 While I’m quiet at the moment I’ve been making these plant IDs. Great way to remember what you have planted and I’m hoping they will stand the test of time. Using letter punches and aluminium strips and then spraying them black. Once dried I sand them back and spray them with a clear lacker. #thebushtukkagardener, #plantlables, #bushfoods, #edibleplants

16.01.2022 Look at this amazing little Thorny Devil I found sitting in the middle of the track.....just amazing how it almost completely camouflages into its surroundings. Made my day #thornydevil, #thebushtukkagardener, #irwinhills, #thegreatoutdoors

15.01.2022 Please check all your citrus for any bulges/bumps and this includes fingerlimes which is the gall wasps natural host plant.

14.01.2022 Anyone out there with an abundance of Warrigal greens? I normal just use it in a stir fry but this takes it to the next level.

13.01.2022 Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums and to the women in our lives that have inspired, nurtured and cared for us. For those looking for something special for mum why not buy a Bushtucker plant such as a lemon myrtle, so she can sit back on her special day and enjoy a tea while putting up her feet. #thebushtukkagardener, #mothersday, #lemonmyrtle,

12.01.2022 Had a great trip out to the Wheatbelt and spotted a couple of Bushtucker plants while exploring Dingo rock and Gathercole reserves. #wawheatbelt, #thebushtukkagardener, #gnammahole, #sandalwood, #quandong, #dianella

08.01.2022 How cool is this, my daughter sent me a photo of her beautiful Ruby salt bush harvest. I’m so happy to see her out in the garden and taking an interest in my plants. These plants are so hardy and once established seem easy to self seed. #rubysaltbush, #bushfood, #thebushtukkagardener, #gardeningkids

03.01.2022 On the bright side of isolation, I’ve had more time to potter around the garden. With a new sign up and quite a few more Bushtucker plants in the ground, it’s slowly expanding.

01.01.2022 To celebrate National Reconciliation Week we're highlighting the diversity of Australian native plants! (A little more than we usually do). First up - Karkalla ...aka pigface! This truly diverse Australian succulent is found in coastal regions in WA, SA, Vic and Tas. Indigenous people traditionally ate the fruit fresh and paired the salty, fleshy leaves with meat. Unlike weedy species of pigface from South Africa, this one’s a homegrown favourite. A fantastic ground-cover, Karkalla also boasts eye-popping flowers! They're dynamic all-rounder we love to get around! 1. by Merritt Thomas 2. by @kyliehoughwriter See more
