24.01.2022 'The first time I found myself laughing with my partner I panicked and stopped in my tracks. My daughter had just died. What did I think I was doing?' - Lara At... the beginning, it's easy to assume that grief is only heaviness and sorrow, and that if we feel other emotions we somehow aren't doing it right. The truth is, grief is like life - interspersed with moments of calm, relief, gratitude, happiness and yes, laughter. It doesn't have to mean you love your baby any less. It doesn't have to mean you've forgotten the pain of their loss. Whether it's spontaneous fun, or a deliberate tactic to give you some relief, find the laughter where you can and lean into it. It'll help you get through. #selfcaresunday
24.01.2022 Were now recruiting volunteer parent supporters to provide support for bereaved parents on our national phone support line and live chat services in 2020. Wer...e looking for people just like you - whove experienced grief and loss - to help companion other parents through this experience. Our volunteers give a lot of themselves to our cause, but they tell us they also gain a lot - that doing so is validating, rewarding, and gives them insight into their own grief journey. Applicants can be based anywhere in Australia, with online training to be delivered in both February and April. If you are interested in finding out more about the role, please submit an expression of interest on our website and well be in touch with more details. *If youve previously submitted an expression of interest, well also send these details to you soon. https://www.sands.org.au/volunteer-application

23.01.2022 Today is #saytheirnameday A national day of awareness to encourage more people to talk openly about miscarriage, stillbirth and infant death. In honour of your baby or a baby close to you, please say their name. Charlie was here, Charlie was loved, Charlie was perfect! ... Today and everyday we say their name to help break the stigma still surrounding pregnancy and infant loss

15.01.2022 Its that time of year again, That time of year when instead of lighting your birthday candles, I light the one next to your ashes. The time of year when the dull pain gets sharper again and Pierces through my soul. You were bought into this world 1,825 days ago and for 32 of those days the world was a better place. Words can not express how much I love you, Charlie, my beautiful baby boy.... Forever perfect

10.01.2022 Many Sands dads have participated in Kate Obst's @uniofadelaide research on fathers' experiences of grief after pregnancy loss. She shared with us this recent a...rticle she wrote for Westpac, calling for a cultural shift in the way managers, employers and colleagues respond to men in the workplace following a pregnancy loss - a chorus we can all support. Have a read and add your thoughts. https://www.westpac.com.au//the-silent-grievers-dads-need/ See more
10.01.2022 Australias demand for plasma is growing rapidly. Its a lot like donating blood, and you can donate as often as once a fortnight. 10.01.2022 With Coronavirus taking over our lives at the moment its important to remember those who rely on blood donations to stay alive. These people are already at risk. Lets not give them the added pressure of worrying if they will be able to receive their life saving treatments The blood bank needs 10,000 donations over the next 3 weeks to keep up with demand. Restrictions do not apply to the blood bank so please, if you are healthy and well, roll up those sleeves ... Thanks mumzie for taking the time to donate this week Xx
10.01.2022 Super proud Roll up those sleeves!!!!

08.01.2022 Ive found myself watching Charlies funeral DVD quite a bit over the last few days. Im not entirely sure why because it just breaks my heart even more and I become a blubbering, broken mess. One of the things I have noticed looking back is the love that was in that room. The love for me and Jeremy and our beautiful baby that only a few got the chance to meet. You all shed a tear for him and your hearts were just as broken as ours. Each and every person there took the time t...Continue reading

07.01.2022 Today we acknowledge International Bereaved Father's Day - a movement whose aim is to find a unique place of acknowledgment for dads grieving the loss of a chil...d. Dads, if you're listening, we've got a message for you: We recognise and honour your role as father to all of your children - those in your heart as well as in your arms. We admire your courage and strength in facing each day, despite your unfathomable loss. We encourage you to reach out for help when you need it, knowing it is not a sign of weakness, but rather one of courage and strength. We are here for you. 02.01.2022 'Getting it off your chest' doesn't have to mean telling your whole life story. If you're struggling, reaching out to a friend to say 'hey, I'm not having a gr...eat day' can sometimes be enough to help lighten your load. And if you don't feel like talking to a friend, you're still not alone. You can chat to a Sands parent supporter at any time of the day or night by calling 1300 072 637. Even when you don't know what to say. Perhaps 'especially' when you don't know what to say #selfcaresunday
