He did own the bowling green land but I can’t remember if he donated it or sold it to them. See more
24.01.2022 McKinnon Road has certainly gone through a number of changes over the years! #ThrowbackThursday
21.01.2022 Here's the original Bentleigh Station, which is obviously not the one demolished last weekend. The old station was built after Sir Thomas Bent extended the train line to Cheltenham (in very self-indulgent circumstances but that's another story!) #ThrowbackThursday

19.01.2022 Hello all, here is an Real Estate add for land that my parents brought late in 1945 for about 105 pounds. They brought number 174. But due to short supply of ma...terials and skilled labour their 2 bedroom (later extended to 3 bedrooms by Dad) home was not finished till about some time early in 1947. Due to tax's and fees the land finally cost them 125 pounds. (cost of their build was about 1256 pounds) From the front veranda you could just see the bay. Later (as more homes were built) you could only see the bay from the top of the roof, but not now. It was the second home built in the street. The last one was not finished till about the mid 60's. Mum sold our home many years ago, but it is still there. But this estate was called "Ormond Heights", but all the titles called it Ormond, later changed to East Ormond, then a lot later to East Bentleigh. Funny how on North road there was supposed to be shops. Except for the ones next to East Boundary Road, only one property stayed with these dimensions, #42, #14 took over 15 and became Webbers garage. Later to become FA & PC Webber, (one b or two, I cannot remember). Phil use to race a formula one type of car. They sold up and moved to Queensland. Notice at the end of Lancaster Street, there seems to be a lane way to North road, never happened. Same as the lane way from Murrong Ave to Rochford Street. But a bit of that laneway is still there behind #14 & 15. Hope you all enjoy this?
18.01.2022 Today’s #FlashbackFriday heads back to a local main road. Where do you think this is taken? We know that might be an easy one for some, so we’ll give extra points if you can tell us what year. Closest to the pin gets the glory! Image: PROV, VPRS 12800 P1, H3286B

02.01.2022 School History The first parish school of St Peter's, Bentleigh East, was established in 1865 in Centre Road.... The first parish school of St Peter's, Bentleigh East, was established in 1865 in Centre Road, opposite the present site of the Monash Medical Centre, Moorabbin Campus. The tiny timber schoolhouse served the community for 36 years and was replaced in 1903 by a brick building when the Presentation Sisters took over the school. In 1953, the parish purchased the present school and church site and erected a school/church, which has now been incorporated into the main school complex. Bentleigh East became a rapidly growing urban area. Almost overnight, hundreds of acres of market gardens were auctioned, sub-divided and built on. The stream of new settlers from overseas was becoming evident amongst the young families who had come to the district. In 1960, the Sisters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart took over the running of the school. In 1983, the first lay Principal, Mr Des Dalton was appointed; the present Principal is Mr Michael Hanney. Over the years, the school has seen many changes in refurbishment and extensions. Many of the present St Peter's students are the grandchildren of the original parishioners. In 2009 a $2.7million Junior School was opened to include 12 learning areas and state of the art facilities. As part of the Federal Government ' Building the Education Revolution' a new Library and Multi Media classroom was built in 2010. This provides St Peters with a contemporary learning environment that will allow the current and future students access to learning spaces that are flexible and open to new technologies. In 2012 the Parishes of Bentleigh East, Bentleigh and Moorabbin formed the Holy Trinity Parish and as a consequence the Federated Schools of Holy Trinity Parish was formed. In 2015 Michael Juliff was appointed the Co-ordinating Principal of the three schools.
