25.01.2022 We have been made aware that original historical pieces of memorabilia gifted to the Pub from the train station and varying places/people of relevance to the Pub & Rappvilles history of a bygone era had all been given away a few years ago (Not by Clayton, previous Publican) just prior. Huge shame. We are not the owners of such historical pieces, but custodians! Relevant pieces tell the story of the village in which they had been displayed for many years within the pub. The... importance to share, preserve and protect for us now and future generations is paramount. In order for me to bring the real history back into the pub, I am asking if those pieces can be returned on loan to the Commercial Hotel where they will be proudly displayed in their rightful place once again for everyone. I can not do this without your help - the pub is for everyone, lets return her memories.... thanking you, Lisa See more
25.01.2022 We are OPEN Monday 4th Oct Public Holiday from 12pm
25.01.2022 Thank you everyone who supported the RAPPY today with fantastic Duo ‘Two tears in a Bucket’ and food provided by Mayfield’s Kitchen (yum). An absolutely overwhelming response by all. Great to have a visit by the vintage car club whose cars we admired earlier this morning & The Gypsy Soul riders too...
24.01.2022 Found on upstairs verandah passed out! This lady needs to be picked up & taken home, shes spent to much time at the pub! Well mannered, slender, youll never get an argument out of her, has no dress sense & likes to be barefoot. Perfect woman? Ha Any takers? Please!!
23.01.2022 We wish to thank everyone who has currently visited the Commercial Hotel since opening 28 days ago. We have reached an online audience of 47,893 people during those 28 days and thank each and everyone one of you for your kind messages, compliments and to all who have currently taken the time to visit the pub & meet us. It has been a wonderful experience getting to know you all over the past month and we look forward to greater things to come soon. Much appreciated, Management & staff of 'The Rappy'
23.01.2022 My son Hayden working on the first of many beautiful timber tables today that will be throughout the pub and an especially crafted bar style table for the boys who enjoy the side area of pub facing the fire pit... All hand crafted in various sizes and cut designs - thanks to Colin (my partner) for salvaging/milling these timbers & gifting to the Hotel - some absolutely beautiful slabs we can work with here
22.01.2022 Whilst the tradies take their first day off in 2 weeks, gives me a chance sand back 100 years of paint over paint over paint in entrance hall - paint dust for breakfast! Ha... Discovered 5 different paint colour layers so far
22.01.2022 Great job by all over past few days, 3/4s there - new floorboards being layed in what will become the cafe/restaurant area one day out on this massive deck - expensive project this part is, however, floorboards will look amazing once polished up - no tripping through floor gaps either We have almost completed the works we can do without council approval to breath life back into this beautiful building. The remaining projects previously spoken of will have to wait a little... while until all accepted, approved & signed off via the various channels. Thank you for your patience, it has been 6 weeks since moving in and these works (mostly painting, floors & building some furnishings) required doing now whilst we had the opportunity. We anticipate to open on or by 4th September (except for cafe/restaurant), fingers crossed we will have this sorted & completed prior to Xmas and The Rappville pub after 4 years of food closure can serve patrons once again. Liquor & Gaming NSW, Act (Law) Stipulates it is mandatory that food be provided to drinking patrons. I am currently looking into which foods I can provide that will be sufficient besides (pies/sausage rolls & packets of chips, which are all rubbish, junk food and not sustainable!) that will not incur fines from council due to no kitchen(health/safety regulations). We will have Cappacino machines and coffee/cakes can be had on the new back deck with Champas of course. I truly hope I can source a variety to offer without breaking rules. We look forward to the pub opening very soon, putting a face to the many people we have chatted with who have rang the pub over the past weeks. We appreciate all your patience especially with COVD19 but mostly your support of The Rappville Pub. Lisa & Colin
22.01.2022 Beautiful Burl slabs Colin is crafting into your tables and Brush box bar tables. The Burl is mesmerising in colour...some almost completed whilst starting on the next lot. Leveling the flooring in main bar room - unfortunately unable to restore the majority of original floor boards in this particular room after pulling up carpet seeing what was underneath - We will have to relay other flooring over, preserve whats left of the original floors - still will look aesthetically pleasing when we finish.

20.01.2022 Great day & evening with Junkyard BBQ (everyone raved about their food). Big Karaoke night with Kev & Davo, such fun, thank you for entertaining everyone & bringing the troops out on the bus to Rappville.
20.01.2022 Huge thank you for an incredible opening supporting the pub from the lovely Rappville village folk & extended families, surrounding town folk, to those who travelled from Iluka, McLean, Grafton, Brooms Head to Mullumbimby, Lennox Head, Kyogle & Tenterfield. Over the past 2 days we have met a couple of hundred people who walked through the pub doors. We appreciate all abiding COVD rules which is frustrating & requires constant monitoring & awareness - well done to my mothe...r who is now called mum by all the patrons. A special thank you to Richmond Valley Council Mayor, Robert Mustow & his lovely wife who enjoyed a cold beer today. Councillor, Jill Lyons visit for lunch, enthusiasm & encouragement. To the real cowboys we met & are behind in sponsoring & will work with to bring the town a Rodeo. The amazing team Phil Blayden AKA Blaney , Hayden & Eliza who all worked their tooshies off and I will mention, Hayden & Eliza were thrown in working a pub bar which was constantly flat out who have never worked behind a bar in their life, so congratulations guys, you both worked as professionals. Great food provided by van owner Jom Makan & family providing patrons quality food & working long hours for us today. Thank you to also Debbie Blayden, you are extremely thoughtful & kind. To many who gave me welcoming gifts was heartfelt. The colourful, interesting tapestry of interwoven closeness of folk here makes this town Rappville one of a kind. Love it! Thank you to everybody from all of us & we look forward to future planning & enjoying your company at The RAPPY.
19.01.2022 As Rappville is timberland we have transported huge Gorgeous slabs that my partner milled from his farms which also suffered during the recent fires - a few still with burnt edges from the fires that will remain in tact in memory to the recent tragedy - timber tells the story - the timbers (some 400 years old) & beautiful burl slabs (which he had stored over the years for a purpose cause) will now be made into table tops, wall bar slabs and also featured throughout the pub in artistic display, will look amazing throughout - for those who appreciate timber

18.01.2022 Coming along... put some lights up in bar tonight can operate from my phone (change colours, love it!) Fit out to bar area almost completed. Alcohol stock & kegs ordering next week - almost completed mens/ladies loos with their facelift - still to furnish with bar tables/pictures, dart boards etc the history big room - lots still to do though folks including completing back deck area, few more weeks and doors will be partly open. Unfortunately due to no kitchen at presen...t, we are limited to what we can serve you. For many of you offering their services of cooked foods in commercial kitchens to seve, we unfortunately have to now say no, but thank you. A meeting with council stipulated we cannot serve any food except packaged foods being potato chips & rubbish - only pies/sausage rolls in pie warmer (which will be checked on) can be served to you on a paper plate/bag with plastic utensils, (no pizza or anything else). We are not aloud to open the packaged food either. Rejected BBQs outdoors as well. Our apologies upfront, out of our hands rules. Coffee & tea also rejected to serve? bit severe as you boil water, we have fridges & dishwashers. Cant be without Cappacino though, so we are installing a water treatment system that should get approved? Majority of our plans didnt seem favourable, quite deflating - Welcome to Rappville. We will look into temporary food vans (must also be approved by council) for mostly weekends. Until our kitchens are built & approved, we will be operational like previous owners - hopefully before Xmas, if all goes to plan will be operational with the best pub food we can offer to finally welcome everyone here from near & afar to enjoy -

10.01.2022 Starting to add furnishings and creating a set of early style replicated 1900s style window curtain dressings (currently no where near completed & held up by pegs & pins, so I can get correct floor measurements to sew the correct length to floor & also was anxious to put up briefly for a look myself - part of this larger front room will incorporate antique furnishings, recent find an 1880s original lounge that I need to restore a bit - these antiques will compliment the ol...d photographs of the Hotel I have obtained, (which Im reframing) and Old wares to display in this area with tables & chairs history part of room for the pub in reminiscent of that early era - rugs, paintings, wine barrels, beautiful burl table & chairs to be added... extending up that room towards doorway will slightly vary in mood layout but blend into sports/darts etc (you will see on completion) how that will work Stairs still yet to be finished, however managed to complete the hallway painting & floors. The main bar (which is designed entirely different - rustic with timbers/wine barrel tables & large slab bar tables) Ill have finished painted tomorrow flowing out into the Ivy bar area with pool table/tvs etc.. We also recently discussed designing and making a bandstand just for bands only to play on out the back of pub raised off the ground in the near future as well as there is ample room out there on the grass area and plenty of area in the cafe area to watch/dance (this would require a council DA, but we think would be worth considering. Colin & Hayden had fun listening to music, having a couple whilst watching the timber come to life in main pub room coating with tongue oil until midnight tonight - Eliza re-vamped the ladies toilets (quite stylish), mens are next with a suprise (sorry guys, that nudie woman mannequin has got to go - if someone was in love with it, its our gift to you, come collect There was a comment in previous post they would like to see Saloon doors in the pub somewhere- your wish was granted (see below photo)! This will all change again by opening, but shows some history returning of a by-gone era in some rooms, after all, this is one of the oldest timber pubs in NSW still standing, she deserves her grandness restoring her. 09.01.2022 Progress this week... carpet pulled out - Matt & Hayden sanding boards to original timber colour Redgum, they look absolutely beautiful.... progress on my bespoke wagon wheel lights & playing with paint colours in main pub area (will reveal that when open) ... getting there - starting to resemble a real country pub Especially with the neutral warm paint colour choices to blend in with the rustic timbers

08.01.2022 Just for fun: A poem by my partner below that is most relevant to an incident that occurred at the pub when we first opened - Those that know me, know I love my flower plants! A mischievous fella who had a few to many decided to pick some gorgeous huge orange flowers I had been growing & had bought up from Sydney, he put them in his mouth like one of those Matadors not expecting the bull to see red .... let’s say he has never picked them again! The Rappville Publican ... From the city she came to a country pub, Swapped her high heels for plainer grub; But to avoid her wrath and mystical powers, Be sure you never touch the publicans flowers; Truly a gentler soul there’s never been seen, Was said she could be mistaken for the queen; So Cover the ears of yer children, they’ll surely take Flight As it happened one fateful night; A young fella tall and lean, Struck an idea, flowers for dinner it would be; Timing was bad as he filled his plate, The publican came out the evening late; Those that saw it will never forget, Louder than the freight train were the words he met; Now All over the country in whispers the word is past, Don’t touch her flowers or you’ll get a blast; Your skin will blister your ears will burn, Listen to the legend, I beg you to learn; Look at her flowers, she’ll be your friend, But don’t touch them, It’ll be your end. The Bushman

07.01.2022 Ahhh, those tough, hard working ‘cockies’ are all full of..... poetry POEM by Colin Foyster for our pubs return of the clock ... The Rappville clock The silent sentinel through thick and thin Always watching as trains came in A hundred years there it stood Showing the towns character and all things good Retired to the pub to wait the next train His love of Rappville, in his knowing smile it’s plain He watches over all with a wistful grin Now he’s swapped his suitcase for a glass of gin

06.01.2022 Welcome back ‘OLD TIMER’ We all just had a celebration of the return & final destination of the once gifted Clock that belonged to the Train Station opppsite the pub. The clock is pre WW1 and the clock restorer researched they were built in late 1800’s, he has inserted a new clock face as per what the original clock had - somewhere along the years it had been replaced with cardboard cut out & stick on numbers (see photo) Thank you Local resident Pam for rescuing it from bei...ng thrown out & taking it to Matt Rankin of Lismore Timezone Watchmakers to restore. Matt has totally restored the clock to its original former glory at no cost! Such a lovely man to take the time to do this. She ticks again - she holds more time & stories of the Rappville Pub than any person living today! We are extremely grateful to have a memory timepiece back where she belongs. Thanks again to Matt Rankin of Lismore Timezone watchmakers And Pam
06.01.2022 Beautiful sun shining day - morning spent peach picking, supporting our friends John & Frieda’s local Peach Farm Southview Orchards, Hogarth Range, whose peaches & nectarines are Devine! Followed by Nicky Convine (whose voice is a song bird) at our pub. We wish Nicky well with her upcoming birth & move to Qld, it has been a true delight having you play at the Pub. Thank you to Mayor, Robert Mustow, lovely wife Narelle, Susanna Freymark & all those that popped out today sharing an enjoyable Sunday Arvo .... Now praying for that rain to break through, we need some good decent rainfall
06.01.2022 Are there any descendants still around of the first original owners of the Commercial Hotel - Thomas & Elizabeth Greenstreet?
06.01.2022 Just had a chat with Dale Shearer - (Tips - Rowdys Footy round 13) as I obviously can not currently display his tips at the pub at present, told him I will put them up here for those that follow the gee gees & footie As you guys love the Manly boys, I will also be incorporating Dales label of wine Red Emu Wine (as we are from the same mob Kamilaroi, and our totem is Emu, it feels befitting to try out here at The RAPPY Dale Rowdy Jack Shearer
05.01.2022 Todays Task - Matt & Eliza pulling up all the old floor boards on the back cafe decking (no DA required) as footings and everything beneath is structurally strong and dont require repairs , preparing for Colin & his sons to relay brand new floorboards tomorrow - will be safer and nice to walk on even boards with no wide gaps & give the deck a facelift... Im decorating a staff entrance door into side bar using paints and paper for a stone look door (before/after photo of the door) the above slider part of door will be a challenge to obtain same look as bottom half Noticed The trees are all regenerating since the fires and since we moved here 5 weeks ago they are now blooming in green - trees outback were quite burnt & spindle looking when we first came

02.01.2022 No longer hustle & bustle of my old Sydney town - but an occasional Moo outback and a quick Choo-Choo out front, honk from the train drivers as a reminder of the fast pace I left behind.... Rappville the place to be...
02.01.2022 Time stood still briefly today - a suprise visit from Previous owners of The RAPPY, Roma FOLEY, who lived at the pub with husband & Publican Burt during the late 1950’s to 1968. Photographed below with her dear friend Maureen (who also lived upstairs at the pub during the 60’s) - sharing with us beautiful stories of their glorious years in this old country village during a prime era. Such a pleasure that Colin & I were both here to meet these beautiful ladies. Now 91 years of age, Rona still full of zest & life, in great health, asked us to promise that she will get to see our visions fulfilled with the surrounding lake of the pub & breathing life back into a village that is worthy to thrive once again.

02.01.2022 Sneaky peak - we have been so full on these past 4 weeks since moving here - lots of sanding/restoring floors, painting, planning & re-organising. We are also making the majority of our own furnishings inbetween for unique character. Todays chores, Im painting main pub room & ceilings whilst Colin makes me a rustic 2 seat bench - welding iron & sanding his timbers, of course the bench was created just so I could use a particular piece of timber salvaged from the fires wit...h burnt edgings ... still lots to do folks, but we are getting there, enjoying the process and wish to have the majority of projects finished prior to opening the front bar areas in few weeks including two separate cosy couch areas for the ladies or those just wanting somewhere comfy to enjoy a glass of red, as thereafter, we wont have the extra time to do these needed projects to give this pub the (three Cs) charm, class & character Im wanting to achieve...it is entirely different interior designs to what you had previous - breaking it in slowly to you all See more
