24.01.2022 Do you have a small dog that barks, lunges, snaps or chasers bigger dogs? Have you labelled them as having as having " small dog syndrome"? You need to read this. Small dogs are still dogs with the same needs and communication as larger dogs, sometimes we miss interpret their communication as a personality trait. It's not.

22.01.2022 When looking at what you feed your dog think of the below. It is so logical and makes so much simple sense. 80% of dogs before they are 4 need dental work! How is that possible when we are told that all your dog needs to clean its teeth is kibble.... Inform yourself when you are choosing what you want to feed your pets.

20.01.2022 What we are experiencing with COVID-19 Is like nothing most of us have seen in our life time. It is affecting everyone in one way or another. First I would like to ask if everyone could think of the elderly thst may not have family looking out for them, they need toilet paper and supplies too. Secondly for everyone to stay healthy and thirdly if you are able to keep using your dog walker if you are working from home, most of us are sole traders and not companies, some of us will end up closing down due to lack of income. Hopefully this will all pass over soon and we can get back to normal, but for now stay healthy.

20.01.2022 Our friends Crazy Critterz Toy Box are looking for brand ambassador for their amazing enrichment boxes. Check it out and post a pic.

19.01.2022 It has become SO common for dogs and cats these days to have allergies both skin and food. It is also very common for them to be given a form of steroid. Here is a great video about what they are and what the side affects can be. It is always a good idea to be informed about what you are giving your pet.

19.01.2022 It is such a terrible shame that we dont see dogs for what they are. Living, feeling thinking beings. For so many years "Trainers" have been giving pet parents terribly destructive and dangerous advice that changes how the dogs brain functions, the associations it builds and its ability to cope with day to day life. Anxiety, reactivity and aggression are a growing issue I see everyday. At the moment every second dog and puppy I see has seen a "trainer/behaviourist" before m...e that has given advice that has changed the behaviour of the dog, but not for the better. When someone gives you advice about your dogs behaviour and what you should do about it I want you to ask yourself, "would I do this to a child" or " how would you respond if it was done to you". When looking for a Trainer/Behaviourist ask them exactly how they will work with your dog. What will they physically do with your dog? What qualifications they have? Many will say they are "Positive", but they are not as they do use aversive and will say that it "doesnt hurt". Science proves that if you do something to a living being and it stops the behaviour they see it as aversive. Teaching without fear and intimidation is not bribing or being soft, it is teaching with clear information to the animal and building trust. Do you want your dog to fear you? Or do you want to have a relationship built on understanding and trust.

19.01.2022 I love this! Labelling doesnt give us any information about the animals behaviour. All behaviour happens for a reason, something in the environment has cued the behaviour. Behaviour is information. #cookiefeedernotpackleader #sydneydogtrainer #forcefreetrainingtheonlyway #behaviourisinformation #behaviourchange

18.01.2022 Long distance dramatic bang.

17.01.2022 Please take 10 minutes to watch this video. Dominance in the dog training industry is such a problem, even today with all the research that has come out to prove it damages your dog, and the relationship that we have with them. Aversive training stops your dog from behaving out of fear of the aversive, it doesnt teach the dog what you think you are teaching, but it is easy for these trainers to say that what they are doing is working as the dog does not behave. The fall out of these methods can be fatal.

16.01.2022 Such true words. "Corrections" block behaviour, they don't help the dog learn anything good about the trigger. Only that they get punished in the presence of. When working with dogs we have to take into consideration what is going on inside of the dog. Behaviour is information! ... How they feel and perceive the trigger is what helps drive the response. If you aren't aware of that then you are doing the dog a disservice and you will never be able to take the piece of equipment off, as it is the piece of equipment you are "controlling" the dogs behaviour with, not changing the dogs behaviour. 15.01.2022 As humans, we spend so much time focusing on the behaviour we see rather than looking at the why the behaviour happens, and what keeps it strong.

14.01.2022 R U OK? A question we should ask each other, also a question we should ask our dogs. Empathy, understanding and no judgement are important skills for people in my industry. Humility and openness, being who we are and admiring we are not ok is key to getting through these very stranger and tough times. Take care of each other and your furry family.#ruok #community #lovemydog #dogsofinstaworld #rescuedogs #dogtrainer

12.01.2022 It is so important as pet parents to have the knowledge to know what really is good for our pets and their continuing health. I hear this so often from clients that they need to feed kibble to keep their dogs teeth clean. It would be like your GP saying " You only need to eat Anzac biscuits to keep your teeth clean"!!!

12.01.2022 Due to the current situation with COVID-19 and recommendations of social distance, we have decided to postpone our puppy class till further notice. Both myself and @woollahravets are taking all necessary precautions to keep everyone safe. I am still offering one on one consultations for puppies as well as any other issues. I also offer Skype consults and have Archie as my demo dog to help with practical exercises. So get in touch but most of all everyone stay healthy.... 11.01.2022 I love my job. I am truly blessed to have found something that I love and am passionate about. .I love my job for so many reasons, one of them is having the privilege of working with dogs like Kobe and his amazing humans. . .... When I met Kobe he found the outside world very stressful. So much going on that he just couldnt process it all, this made his behaviour erratic, hypervigilant and impossible for him to learn. Luckily for him he has amazing and dedicated humans. They have been patient and consistent with him and worked with him and his needs, this is clear from how amazing he is today. . . .Working with dogs no matter what the behaviour is takes time, consistency, patience and effort. There are no quick fixes. Foundations that last take time and when done properly last. . .#Repost @sohelpmedog (@get_repost) @kobe_therescue story swipe across to read about Kobes journey over the past two years @rach_drapes @onlymestuieg with training help from the awesome @the_dog_brigade #lovemyjob #cookiefeedernotpackleader #behaviourisinformation #forcefreetrainingtheonlyway #dogtrainersydney #dogtrainerenmore See more

11.01.2022 Science has long proved that force free methods are the best and most humane way of training all animals, including humans. It also proved training methods using aversion has detrimental side effects. When choosing a trainer please look at PPGA or the Delta society, or someone who has a Cert IV. https://www.huonnews.com//local-news/157-huon-news-19-2-20

10.01.2022 Happy 5 year gotcha day Archie Bear! You have taught me so much, both as a trainer and as a person. You have come so far from that day I picked up from Blacktown pound. Everyday you make me laugh by your goofiness and your howling at meal time. The past 5 years have been difficult with a lot of change and a lot of loss, you have been my rock, always reminding me what time you need to be fed. Thank you butthead.#happygotchaday #pounddog #rescuedogs #anxiousdogs #dogs #dogsofinstagram

08.01.2022 Training is not perfect, training should be fun even when you get it wrong. When you make mistakes that allows you to learn and progress. Here is a compilation of a new behaviour I have been working with Archie. The behaviour is long distance dramatic bang. When I work with Archie I do it for short durations. This video shows my mistakes, bad marking on my part. It also shows Archie problem solving. Dogs are amazing creatures, enjoy them, have fun with them, that is no such thing as a stupid dog nor is there a perfect training session. Be brave, try, make mistakes and enjoy the learning. #cookiefeedernotpackleader #forcefreetrainingtheonlyway #dogtrainersydney #clickertrainingfordogs #rescuedogsofinstagram

07.01.2022 In our day and age it is important to keep ahead of new research and findings of how we work with puppies and adult dogs. This is a good example. I see many puppy clients that have been advised to yelp when their puppy grabs them, or another one that blows my mind is put your hand in the puppies mouth and let them bite until it hurts then yelp!?! Most of them are covered in teeth marks from their little land shark. ... Prevention is always better than cure. Its not just about redirecting it is important to know when the biting mostly occurs. What I have come to learn is that the main times are during play, when being petted and when humans sit to watch T.V. or work on computer. When you are aware of when it can potentially happen then you can prepare and prevent. If you have a puppy that gets excited easily and mouths out randomly to might be a good idea to use a play to pen to help manage them to prevent teeth contact. Making a big fuss when they play with a toy as well moving your hand away when you see their mouths open. They are babies that, like human babies, put everything in their mouths, dont set them up to fail and know that every moment they are awake they are learning something.

07.01.2022 We are all going through very strange times where our day to day lives have been turned upside down. Many of us are now spending a lot more time at home, now our dogs will think this is amazing and its a great opportunity to fine tune some training or work on things you didnt have time to before. As I am abiding by the governments suggestions I am doing online consults. So get in touch and book an online session to build your behaviour repertoire or work on some issues you havent had time.to work with before. #socialdistancing #onlinedogtraining #cookiefeedernotpackleader #positivetraining #dogtrainer

07.01.2022 #Repost @animalbehaviourandtraining (@get_repost I LOVE THIS!!! With every client I ask them to make sure they see learning happening, with each repetition you are building a pathway which means if you are doing it right you will see the behaviour grow and become a reliable behaviour. #behaviourisinformation... What is learning? . . Learning represents stimulation of neuronal pathways in the brain. With repetition, this stimulation leads to creation of new synapses and pathways (represented by a new behaviour!). Continuous reinforcement can help stimulate these pathways with every repetition making this process faster and more efficient This does not just apply to a new skill, but also an existing behaviour in a new context (new environment) . . #neuroscience #behaviour #dogtraining #positivereinforcement #veterinarian #dogmum See more

04.01.2022 During a period when the demand for puppies is high it is a disgrace that this is happening, but it is a reality. There are some great ethical breeders around, but there are also those that are just doing it for the money. Asking big $$$$ for puppies as people are willing to pay it. But at what cost? Dogs are sentient beings which means they feel, they are not "Just dogs". What they experience, even in the womb, can have catastrophic long term effects. The amount of anxious ...puppies that I am seeing lately is not ok. The amount of puppies that arrive to their new home with mites, flees and physical injuries is not ok. This has to stop. If you are wanting a puppy it is important that you know where they are coming from, what conditions the puppies and their parents are kept in. It is also important to know that the best age to get a puppy is 8 weeks old, this allows you the time during a critical period to build confidence and socialise. Please sign and stop this: https://www.emmahurstmp.com/petition_end_puppy_farming

03.01.2022 This is something that as a Force free trainer I spend a lot of time explaining. I keep hearing "If I show my dog I am Alpha they dont need to worry or show reactive behaviour or feel anxious". Apparently to do that people us average training... How is using force making your dog feel less anxious??

02.01.2022 How do you choose a trainer? What are your expectations? I regularly end up with clients that have employed a person whom calls themselves a Behaviourist. Now if you are a Behaviourist you should be educated on how to understand behaviour and be able to form behaviour modification plans for that individual animal. Unfortunately this is rarely the case. When looking for someone to work with you and your do it is hard to decipher between people who know what they are doing and ones how are great at marketing and nothing else. Here is a great blog that outlines some flags you should look for and ask
