I have a special love of blue merles, having bred, shown and won many best colored blue merle classes with my collie roughs over the years. Mia and her 10 month old sister Addie are such gorgeous dogs, beautifully trained and a joy to groom! ... Maybe I need an Aussie Shepherd in my life?

17.01.2022 My Rant! I have NEVER seen such high demand for puppies as it exists now, due to the pandemic. People are opening their wallets wide, With an average of $5000 and up to $10,000 for cute crossbred puppies! Purebreds are much cheaper, for whatever reason?... As many of you know, I used to exhibit collie roughs and once in a blue moon breed a litter of puppies, only when I wanted a new pup to grace the show ring! I studied thoroughly about potential sires. They had to compliment the lines I had, be completely health tested against genetic defects and if they had a fancy show record that was the icing on the cake! Most sires selected were imports from overseas. So much work went into the puppies produced and they were also tested for genetic defects. It wasn’t about money! Godh I’d be lucky to break even. It was for the betterment of the breed. As a professional groomer, I estimate 80 % of the doggies I see these days are crossbreds. Nothing wrong with that at all, all dogs are amazing! I do however commonly see problems that are caused by whimsical breeding. There has been a swing away from buying from pet shops to buying puppies on line. With many sellers wanting to meet you somewhere becoming all too common. Always, always, always insist on going to the breeders homes, meet the puppies sire and dam, ask for a tour around if they have other dogs. I have heard way too many sad stories and also groomed many dogs that were breeding stock and rescued from puppy farms. They were the lucky ones who survived. It takes so much time and patience until they feel okay to be happy again. How my heart goes out to them! I’m glad puppy farmers are being clamped down on. Sometimes they are whom you’d least expect..... I knew of two people who worked with animals and professionally respected, who should have known better but obviously were enticed by the almighty dollar. Thank goodness they were prosecuted. Sad thing is I had NO idea until I saw stories in the newspapers. Watch this video and stay away from puppy farmers, the cycle will just continue.
