15.01.2022 The Emily museum closed its doors to the public about three years ago after losses of One Million$s. The Museum collected about 250 iconic paintings by Emily Kame Kngwarreye between 1989 and 1996. The Aboriginal Gallery of Dreamings commissioned more than 600 from the ageing artist who started painting on canvas aged 79 and died aged 86 in 1996. Her paintings have been exhibited all over the world and keep setting new records at Auction sales , currently set at $2.1 million.... After years of trying to build a dedicated Aboriginal Contemporary Modern Art Museum first registered in 2001 and failing to attract interest within Australia , it now looks imminent that many of her iconic paintings will be leaving for overseas Museums in the US , England, Japan , Europe and Asia. International Auction houses like Sotheby’s New York , Gagosian Galleries world wide and acquisitions of her masterpieces by the Tate Gallery will help to make sure her works are seen and admired world wide .
