24.01.2022 What is your relationship with anger? Dominic, a manager, found himself battling with demands from upper management. He became stressed day by day until one day he lashed out angrily at Anne, one of his team members. The next day he apologised but noticed that his working relationship with her was not the same after that incident. Lets hear Annes side of the story. One day, out of the blue, Dominic, her manager, yelled at her in front of the whole team. She felt so embarr...assed and shocked that she didnt know how to respond to him. She stayed up all night thinking about the incident and worrying that it might happen again. The next day, she went to work and was very anxious and uncomfortable. Should she talk with Dominic about what happened the day before? Were her team members looking down at her? At the end of the day, Dominic called her into his office and apologised. She accepted the apology but was never able to fully trust him again. Here you can see the relationship that Dominic and Anne had with anger. What is your relationship with anger like? 23.01.2022 What can managers and leaders do when they cant get through to their staff? I worked with an executive who was known to yell and be excessively critical of the work produced by his team members. The team members lost trust in the executive as they saw him yell at their managers in front of the whole department on a regular basis and they became very disengaged because they lacked direction and respect from the executive. ... The executive was affected because he couldnt get his ideas across to the team and they werent productive. When I joined the organisation and saw the state of his department, I knew it was in a lot of trouble. I coached the executive and helped him turn things around. He increased his self-awareness and self-control skill-set which helped him become aware of the fact that he was becoming angry and take measures to de-escalate his anger. I helped him to effectively communicate what he needed to his team and to listen to them and hear out their ideas. The team became engaged, they became motivated, they became productive. A simple change with dramatic results. Master these leadership skills: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/emotional-intelligence-mast
23.01.2022 Between the stimulus and your response exists the space where you can decide on how best to handle a given situation. When I ran the Anger Management Course over the weekend I showed my participants how they could create a space for themselves between the stimulus and their response to determine whether using anger was the most appropriate to handle the situation or whether another response was more appropriate. The beauty of taking ownership of your responses rather than bl...aming other people or the circumstance for your actions is that you get to equip yourself with the skills and knowledge needed to identify and broaden the space between the stimulus and your response. That you dont need to react in the heat of the moment but that you can give yourself the space you need to make a well-informed decision so that you can respond effectively. You can approach a situation with a clenched fist and destroy a relationship or put your hand forward in empathy and understanding to build relationships. The choice is always in your hands. #humanresources #ceo #angermanagement #Emotionalintelligence #Communication #success #leadership

22.01.2022 "Youre not listening to me!" Have you ever said this to someone or has anyone ever said this to YOU? At the Emotional Intelligence workshop I held for leaders... I guided my participants into how they could utilise Empathetic Listening model to improve their interpersonal and listening skills and they absolutely loved the model! The Empathetic Listening Model, first created by Dr. Helen Riess, is a simple but very effective way of listening. Here are the ABCs of the model that I have modified for my participants: A: Acknowledge your emotions and those of the person you are talking with B: Be present - take deep breaths if needed to re-centre yourself, so that you can be fully present during the conversation C: Curiosity - Be curious about the other person and what they are saying! By using this model, my participants felt closer to the person they were speaking with and they were able to better relate and engage with them. Try using this great tool the next time you talk with someone! Have a great day everyone.

12.01.2022 Peter Drucker, one of the most influential thinkers in the field of management stated that, "Culture eats strategy for breakfast!" A leader who is able to build a strong culture, motivate and engage their staff and stakeholders and remain calm under pressure becomes a competitive edge for whichever organisation they work in. On Friday, we look forward to carrying on Druckers legacy of creating a strong generation of leaders. Organisations, where their managers and leaders i...nvested in increasing their Emotional Intelligence skills, showed higher levels of productivity, sales and market share increase. At PepsiCo, executives who were selected for their Emotional Intelligence competencies generated 10% more in staff productivity. At LOreal, sales staff with high levels of Emotional Intelligence brought in $2.5M more in sales and an Emotional Intelligence initiative at Sheraton helped increase their market share by 24%. It has been great to see leaders fly in from interstate to attend this course since we began running it. We are looking forward to equipping our new cohort of leaders this Friday with the core skills they need to succeed! #highpotentials #hr #humanresources #CEO

They strive to do their best and go the extra mile and are enthusiastic about what they do. They are the ones who bring the smile to your face and who understands where you are coming from. 11.01.2022 "We have to walk on eggshells around him...". Have you come across this situation either at work or in your personal life? Walking on eggshells around someone whos anger is unpredictable? Talking in a passive way with that person, hoping that the conversation will not trigger that person to become angry. Living in fear. Having to screen everything you say, lest the person becomes furious. This type of situation, whether at work or at home is damaging for both the person wit...h anger issues and the people around them. It builds a barrier between them and fosters a relationship based on fear and anxiety. People sometimes believe that if they have anger issues, there is nothing that can be done about it. That this is just the way they are. In most cases, uncontrolled anger is a learned behavior and as such can be controlled. As part of the global network of Anger Management providers, we help people expand their emotional toolset so that anger is not the primary tool they use whenever they encounter troublesome situations, but that they can use other tools like empathy and assertive communication. We will be holding a full-day workshop on Anger Management right here in Sydney this month. Click here to learn more: https://lnkd.in/fzBysJu
06.01.2022 A few years ago, I came across a department where the Executive had difficulty in communicating his thoughts in the right way. As a result, he used to constantly yell at the managers reporting to him in front of the whole department. This amongst other factors led his team to be very disengaged. I began working with the Executive to help him communicate his message assertively instead of aggressively. Within three months, the atmosphere in the department turned around. The t...eam became more engaged and worked alongside their Executive as he started communicating his thoughts the right way. Anger does not need to be uncontrolled. By working with a trained facilitator in Anger Management, people can learn how to control their anger and build positive relationships at work. As part of the global network of the Anderson and Anderson Anger Management providers, I am excited to announce that we will be holding a full-day workshop on Anger Management right here in Sydney this month! 04.01.2022 Theres a widely known story of two brothers who grew up in a home where their father was an alcoholic. One brother went on to be successful and happy with his life. The other brother became an alcholic and lived a sad life. When a researcher asked the first brother the reason for his success, he answered, "With an alcoholic as a father, How else would I turn out?" When the other brother was asked about his life, he also answered, "With an alcoholic as a father, How else woul...d I turn out?". They had the same upbringing, but their unique perspectives led them to live vastly different lives. Your lot in life is not a given. You always have the right and authority to use your intelligence and emotional awareness to create the life that you want for yourself. www.eqleadershipedge.com #emotionalintelligence #leadership #humanresources #founder
04.01.2022 We can get trapped in the habit of holding back and not pursuing our dreams because of our fear of the unknown. "What if this happens?" "What if that happens?" And the cycle of "What ifs" keep us from reaching our full potential. The ironic thing about deciding to remain trapped in the What If cycle is that you give yourself the least possible chance to succeed in whatever it is that you wanted to pursue. You are casting a big vote of no confidence against yourself. Dr Mart...in Seligman, the father of Positive Psychology, recommends that people take a balanced view on a situation before acting. So, you can look at a particular goal: 1. Have your inner Pessimist have a field day coming up with the What Ifs 2. Then use the skill of optimism to address those What Ifs 3. Make an informed decision and 4. Achieve your goal if thats the optimal path. By using Pessimism and Optimism as tools that you can use constructively, you can break the What If cycle and turn your goals into reality. What if you fail? Oh, but my friend, what if you fly!
03.01.2022 It was a pleasure to facilitate the Anger Management Course on Saturday. Here is the feedback from some of our participants, "I really enjoyed the Anger Management Course. 03.01.2022 Isolation. Shame. Embarrassment. These are the emotions that the older citizens of our community grapple with when they are no longer able to connect with their loved ones. When they are no longer able to resonate with them. Technology has brought people from all over the world closer to each other. With a few simple clicks, we are able to chat over LinkedIn or Messenger with friends across the globe. But technology has been a double-edged sword. Though it has brought people... together, it has also created a gulf between loved ones - between the younger generations who use technology on a daily basis and the older generation who do not know how to use technology or use it minimally. My team and I at The EQ Leadership Edge are now working in partnership with the Australian Government as their "Be Connected" Network Partner to bridge this gap. So that older citizens can increase their technical skills in order to connect with the younger generation and do so in an emotionally intelligent way. Get ready for the change!
02.01.2022 "Anybody can become angry-that is easy; but to be angry with the right person, and to the right degree, and at the right time, and for the right purpose, and in the right way-that is not within everybodys power and is not easy." - Aristotle. 01.01.2022 "Anybody can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not within everybodys power and is not easy." - Aristotle By saying this Aristotle highlighted how important it is for people to be able to identify what they are feeling, to see if the emotion they feel like expressing is appropriate for the situation they are in and to manage their emotions s...o that their emotions dont derail them in their daily lives but help them to move forward and help them create positive interactions with others. This is the foundation of Emotional Intelligence. Centuries later, professionals and leaders are still struggling with controlling emotions like anger. Research has highlighted that anger is one of the key derailers for executives, leading them to be asked to resign and leave the organisations they were hired to help lead. Emotional Intelligence is becoming increasingly important and has been highlighted as being one of the top 6 skills professionals and leaders should have according to the World Economic Forum. 01.01.2022 Getting along with other people helps you succeed in your role and may even be as important as your ability to do the job itself. A study conducted by the Center for Creative Leadership in North Carolina found that among executives, the inability to handle anger, especially in pressure situations, was a major factor in missing promotions, being fired, or being asked to retire. Being able to manage your emotions on the job, in spite of high pressure situations, is often crucial in building a successful career. Join us this month in #Sydney and enhance your skills in self-awareness, self-control, reading body language and relationship building. Book your spot here: https://lnkd.in/fM68ERc
