25.01.2022 THE SEPP: THE CONVERSATION NSW NEEDED TO HAVE In my (Sam Farraway) recent travels across regional New South Wales, one thing was made clear to me, the proposed ...SEPP, in its current form simply isn’t acceptable for rural and regional NSW. This was not news to me as issues regarding the proposed SEPP were some of the first pieces of correspondence I received after entering Parliament in October last year. Many people across NSW, particularly those in metropolitan areas, do not know what a SEPP is. They also do not understand the great work our Local Land Services do and many would have little knowledge of the green and red tape land owners have to face daily to do simple things like remove dead trees from their property. Since October last year my Nationals Colleagues and I have been holding meetings in Macquarie Street with Ministers, advisers and key stakeholders, taking what we are told on the ground straight to the decision makers. We put forward amendments that would: Separate agricultural land and Private Native Forestry which is already heavily regulated Bring the number of tree species listed as core koala habitat brought down from 123 to just 39 still an increase from the current 10 listed Ask for the spatial mapping to be taken down and removed from the SEPP due to its inaccuracy. Unfortunately, after months of discussion and a meeting with the Premier our calls for amendments went unanswered seemingly ignored by our Liberal colleagues who are focused on their metropolitan seats and not the people of regional NSW. This is why the Deputy Premier John Barilaro went out hard against our Liberal colleagues, backed by his party room and from the many conversations I’ve had with people from Port Macquarie to Blayney, backed by Regional NSW. This is a fight The NSW Nationals had to have with our Coalition partner. This is a policy that will affect the regional communities, people and industries that we represent it does not affect those in the city. Inconsistent media coverage has many people believing that this SEPP is solely about Koalas well, it’s not. It’s about land rights, it’s about being able to build a fence on your property if your old one needs replacing, it’s about making sure your home is fire safe and at the very crux of it all, this SEPP is about trees. Now the entire state of NSW is talking about the SEPP, looking at the maps, seeing for themselves how flawed the policy in its current form is. Traffic on the website has increased and the google searches have skyrocketed. The Shooters Party have finally reacted to the flaws in this policy, in their own way but it is only because of The Nationals and Deputy Premier John Barilaro that all of NSW is talking about it. This is the conversation we needed to have, it may have been a bumpy road but at least now Macquarie Street knows that the people of Regional NSW have a voice and it is strong. The Hon. Sam Farraway MLC Nationals Member of The NSW Legislative Council Deputy Government Whip of The NSW Legislative Council

24.01.2022 Today in question time, I had the opportunity to ask the NSW Treasurer, Dominic Perrottet a question about Payroll Tax in NSW. Payroll Tax is paid when you exce...ed a threshold of salary for employees in your business. After what the last few years has dished out, its a handbrake on economic recovery for business especially in Regional NSW. There have been some concessions during COVID-19, but we need to do more. My preference would be to abolish Payroll Tax in Regional NSW altogether. See more

14.01.2022 $16 million cash injection guarantees safer bridges, freight roads Thirteen projects across the electorate of Parkes will together share in more than $16.7 mill...ion in funding under Round 5 of the Bridges Renewal Program (BRP) and Round 7 of the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program (HVSPP), Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton has announced. Mr Coulton said the timing couldn’t be better to see funding flow to deliver better and safer bridges and freight roads in the region. This vital funding will allow communities right across my electorate to fast-track their highest-priority infrastructure projects, providing a much-needed boost to local jobs and the economy, Mr Coulton said. I am thrilled to see so many projects across the Parkes electorate will receive grants to do exactly that, at a time where it couldn’t be needed more. This includes $2 million for an upgrade to Boothenba Road near Dubbo Regional Livestock Markets, $1.25 million for a replacement of Lucas Bridge in the Gilgandra Shire, $2.5 million for the widening of the Mitchell Highway between Bourke and Nyngan, and more than $5 million for roadworks in the Walgett Shire. Every single local job we support in the Parkes electorate by investing in infrastructure projects means safer journeys, reliable work on the books for local construction businesses and more cash flowing through local communities. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the latest rounds would support 350 projects across the nation. I am pleased to deliver more than $290 million in funding to more than 350 projects nationwide, which will upgrade and replace bridges which have been damaged or are deteriorating and improve key heavy vehicle infrastructure, Mr McCormack said. With nearly 80 per cent of this funding going to local councils, the outcome of these rounds will support local workers, households and businesses through a difficult time and position the Australian economy for a strong recovery. By improving our road network this funding will also help keep people safe on our roads while making key freight routes more efficient, delivering long-term benefits to drivers, businesses and local communities. This includes our truckies, who form an essential part of the backbone of our national economy and have been working tirelessly during COVID-19 to keep shelves stocked, hospitals supplied and the economy moving. Now more than ever the continued roll out of road infrastructure projects is important to support local jobs, underpin economic growth and ensure all Australians can reach their destinations sooner and safer and communities can rest assured that’s exactly what our Government is doing. 09.01.2022 Walgett Shire Council Overgrown and Unsightly Properties A bush or grass fire can happen at any time of the year but the risk is higher during the warmer months..., when bush, grass or scrub is drier. Council is urging residents to mow their lands to lower the fire risk. Overgrown Urban Lots An urban lot is considered overgrown within the Walgett Shire if: The grass on the site exceeds a height of 30cm, or; The grass on the site has sufficient density and height to sustain a significant grass fire, or; Has sufficient vegetation to provide shelter for vermin and snakes. Complaints about overgrown grass or vegetation on urban lots can be made by calling Walgett Shire Council on phone number 6828 6100. Routine inspections are also undertaken by Council’s Regulatory Officer to determine whether there are overgrown lots within the Shire’s towns and villages. Where an overgrown lot has been identified via an inspection or complaint: Council will write to the landowner and request that they make arrangements to mow and maintain the land. In cases where the request letter is not addressed, or there is an immediate hazard, Council will send a ‘Notice of Intention to Issue an Order’ under the Local Government Act 1993. Generally if the land is less than 2,000m2, the proposed order will require mowing of the whole lot. If a lot is larger, then the owner may be requested to put a 5 metre mowed buffer along the boundary to all neighbouring properties. An Inspection will be carried out by Council after the 30 days has lapsed. If the lot has not been mowed or cleared, then Council may proceed to issue Order 21 under section 124 of the Local Government Act 1993. This order will give the owner a further 30 days to remove/clear the vegetation. A re-inspection will take place after the 30 days has lapsed. If the lot still hasn’t been cleared, then Council may issue a fine and mow the site at the landowner’s cost. Council will mow land for land holders on a user pays basis. Please contact Councils Engineering/ Technical Services on 6828 6100 if you wish to use this service. 07.01.2022 As we approach the Spring school holidays in NSW, mobility of people throughout regional NSW will increase the risk of spreading the virus. Taking a family road... trip, going for short breaks from Sydney, or going camping at many of the national parks, campgrounds are great ways to spend some of the holidays Something as simple as opening a car door, using an ATM or filling the car with fuel can lead to the spread of COVID-19. It's important to practice social distancing as you move around. Remember to wash your hands, cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow or tissue and stay home if you're sick. Please get tested if you have the slightest indication of flu-like symptoms (cold, cough, high temperate). Please stay vigilant about following the health instructions in keeping safe and well, whilst also taking time out to enjoy the fun holiday experiences in NSW.
