22.01.2022 Not only is beetroot a delicious vegetable, that can be enjoyed both raw or cooked, beetroot contains many essential vitamins and minerals, and has been shown to improve exercise performance and cardiovascular health. This is due to naturally occurring nitric oxide, which has been shown to dilate blood vessels, and improve blood flow throughout the body.

19.01.2022 Although rocket may look like just another leafy green, not all leafy greens are created equally. One article has described rocket as a powerhouse vegetable because of the presence and bioavailability of so many nutrients that are essential for health.

17.01.2022 The ground has dried enough to get the tractor in to make some the beds, it’s time to start planting seedlings again. What am I planting? Beans, broccoli, beets, carrots, lettuce, cauliflower, cabbage, potatoes and plenty of garlic, just to name a few. #tractor #organic #farming #sustainability #deutzfahr

12.01.2022 Ah, the age-old question. How do I get my kids to eat their veggies? While you can try using hidden veggies in recipes, consider coming clean with your kids instead, and putting those veggies in plain sight! Or, you could go food shopping with them and let them select produce they might like. Engaging with them during the cooking is another great way to get your kids eating their veggies. And most importantly, keep putting those veggies on their plates consistency is key,... it can sometimes take up to 20 exposures for a child to try something new, and enjoy it. The bottom line: if your kids are in an anti-veggie phase, just stay calm and consistent. Continuing to integrate veggies into their diets and setting a good example, are key areas to persist in. If you have concerns that there’s no change in behaviour or need some more help, give me a call today.

10.01.2022 Interestingly, carrots were first grown for medical reasons and gradually they began to be used as a food, which is understandable as carrots have remarkable nutritional and health benefits. There are a number of great reasons to include carrots in your diet, since they're enriched with carotenoids, phenolic compounds, polyacetylenes, and vitamins, which are know to promote health. These benefits include lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, therefore reducing cardiovascular disease risk, protecting the liver and kidneys, and promoting wound healing, and best of all they can be used so many ways.

08.01.2022 Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiency affecting Australians today, with almost 4 times more women being affected than men. The common symptoms of iron deficiency include; fatigue or tiredness, brittle nails, dizziness, and light-headedness are a few. We know that meat products are a great source of iron, but whole-grain cereals and bread, dried beans and lentils, dark green leafy vegetables and nuts and seeds are also many great sources of plant-based iron. However, these plant-based sources are harder for our body to absorb, meaning we need more of them, or they need to be eaten with other certain nutrients. If you want to learn more about iron deficiency or think this may be an issue for you, give me a call.
