24.01.2022 The Co-op's faithful army of computers that we've had in the office for many years are gradually grinding to a halt. While we don't need the fastest, slickest model on the market, we do need things that work! If you have an older computer that you're looking to pass on, we would love to hear from you. We would gratefully accept donations of computers, or we can negotiate a small price - times are tough, but not being sure the computer will turn on when you ask it to is tougher Email Sophie at [email protected] if you've got anything to offer!

23.01.2022 And if you're not nuts for nut mylk OR dairy, maybe you know and love the organic Pureharvest Calcium Enriched soy milk that we sell! 22.01.2022 We had another preserving day (every 3 weeks) on Saturday and as a result we turned some excess ruby grapefruit into marmalade. Pick up a jar from $6.40 to $9.50 (member's price). If the beautiful amber colour doesn't get you - the taste will! And, if you want to join our preserving good please contact [email protected].

This is the first of our quarterly Craft-bees where we'll get crafty to make ...Co-op merch and other fun things for use around the Co-op. https://www.facebook.com/events/360652805104876

19.01.2022 We think the walkway area out the front of the Co-op could do with a little life and colour, and we reckon some mobile wicking garden-beds and picnic furnishings would do the job nicely! We would like the making process to be a community activity, so our members can learn about wicking beds and contribute to making what will be a delightful addition to our Co-op! Are you a handy kind of person with experience building wicking beds? Would you be willing to work with a team of... Food Co-op Working Members to help with making them? If so we'd love to hear from you! Please get in touch with Sophie at [email protected]

19.01.2022 SAFETY IN THE CO-OP Let's work together to keep Canberra safe! Please remember to keep hygiene standards high when you shop: - Please don't come to the Co-op if you are unwell in any way - Please enter through the Cafe Door and proceed directly to the handwashing station. Always wash your hands thoroughly upon entry, and as you shop. - Please use a clean scoop for each product. We have convenient Clean and Used Scoops buckets to make this easy.... - Please drop off jars for donation to the Co-op on the shelf to the RIGHT of the kitchen door. These will be machine-sanitised by our Sanitising team so they are safe to use again! - You can pick up free, sanitised jars to use while shopping from the shelf on the LEFT of the kitchen door. We can only have 15 people total in the Co-op at any one time to adhere to safe physical distancing guidelines. Due to this, it is our preference that only ONE PERSON PER HOUSEHOLD shops at the Co-op. This means that it's best if you can leave your kids at home. It reduces hygiene risks, and is easier to stay under our 15 people maximum if you can shop without your kids. We understand that this isn't possible for everyone, so please follow these guidelines for shopping with kids at the Co-op: - If you can, please keep your kids secure in a carrier or pram. If that's not possible; - Please wash your kids' hands thoroughly upon entry (as well as your own) - Please do not allow your kids to touch the food containers, scoops, benches, or the food itself. If you feel you won't be able to keep your kids from touching things, we'd love to fulfill an online order for you at cbrfoodcoop.org.au/i/co-op-grocery-pickup-delivery-service/ #CBRFoodCoop #ShopLocal #SupportSmallBusinesses #Reopen #hygiene #covid19

17.01.2022 The toms are in the ground in the greenhouse at Rita's! Have you planted out your tomatoes yet? Here in Canberra, it can be best to keep tomato seedlings under cover until after the last frost - but if you have a greenhouse, you could get started with transplanting right now for an early crop of tommies! What varieties of tomato will you be growing this year?

17.01.2022 Come along this Sunday to our preserving bee from 2-5pm! It's the last one of the year, and a great opportunity to hang out with Trish! RSVP to [email protected]

16.01.2022 Whispering Pines Organics Farm and Flour Mill is a wonderful family farm in the Riverina that produce our famous traditional (unstabilised) oats, as well as a great variety of flours! We often get asked, "what's the difference between stabilised and unstabilised oats?" Stabilised oats are pre-steamed as they are being processed, whereas unstabilised oats do not. This steaming process denatures the lipase enzyme that naturally occurs in oats, meaning that stabilised oats last... a very long time at room temperature. Unstabilised oats, in contrast, last about 3 months at room temperature, but many people prefer unstabilised oats due to their less processed nature. Have you tried Whispering Pines unstabilised oats? We love them!
