20.01.2022 What a year!!! 2019 has come to an end... we send off the year on our last meeting with cherries, strawberry and chocolates and lots of table topics, "family feud" trivia and my all-time favourite round-robin. I like to thank all the exec committees for your tremendous commitment and efforts to run the club, I know there are a lots of things done behind the scene, you are my unsung heroes. I also like to thank all members and guests for your enthusiasm, positive mindset, sp...ectacular and joyful stories. Looking back to the last 6 months what have we achieved: 13 meetings Countless number of round robins and table topics 15 speeches... 3 new members 28 Guests and returned guests. AND of-course a stronger speaker than the year before !!!! Give yourself a big pat on the back for being part of that journey. Keep practising, participating and share your yet-known creative stories (Im sure we all have a few to share). On behalf of The Gavellers Toastmaster club we wish you all a joyful holiday season and look forward to seeing you all in 2020.

18.01.2022 Its a pleasant to see a great turn out to the Gavellers meeting, we fill-up all the seats at the room 15.01 !!!! Roles of the day: Elena : Toastmaster Beresford : General Evaluator... Jodie: Grunt Master Quynh : Hark Master Tam : Table Topic Master Gemma : Time Keeper Visitors: Area I47 Director Beresford Geraldine, Doreen, Laura, Chun, Hai, Jake, Stefanie It was a fearsome meeting. All attendees took part and spoke at the meeting- very impressive as we kicked the footy topic around the table during round robin-and participated in the game. Tam utilised an innovative idea as Table Topics Master with his Rorschach inkblot test cards. In responding to the topic, Iwona had linked the brain pattern with Yanik (you might be able to find out more about Yanik at the next meeting). We saw Henry with a beautiful butterfly flying around the room-even asking questions! Geraldine faced her fears head on and actively participated in Table Topics. As it was only her second meeting attendance we recognise her courage in standing at the podium, in front of everyone and creating a response to an Rorschach card which reminds her of a picture she took in Laos Pak Ou Cave! Well done to all participants facing fear all round at this meeting!! Mike gave a speech on Glossophobia (you would know what it is if you were there) and described how each and everyone of us feels fear when speaking in public. Quynh then elaborated even further on fear - in fact swimmingly on facing our fears. It seems the remedy is to tackle fear head-on. Elena even though our Toastmaster - described her fear of public speaking as like having butterflies in her stomach.Henry laughed- I think his butterfly had gone missing!! (lets hope Henry doesnt share about mosquitoes next time!) The speech evaluations given by Iwona and Denise, which gave us opportunity to view the speech from another perspective and learn from. Until then, please take care, and we will see you on Monday 16th September 2019 for meeting #309.

15.01.2022 To those who missed yesterdays meeting #310 it was a very exuberant meeting with lots and lots of gestures. Mike was our Toastmaster for the meeting- stepping in energetically at the last minute he is a shining example to us all! He ensured the gesturing was maintained and shook every persons hand as they attended the podium! The fact that the Gavel is missing did not deter Mike at all. We might have to change our name to the STAPLERS!!! Kendall gave a thoroughly entert...aining speech about her one free day with her partner and their option to go for a swim or ski down a mountain..Their eventual choice was to visit to a country Victoria town. Accompanied by fabulous gestures her story of the journey captivated the audience indeed! Jodie volunteered to be evaluator-even though she could not stay for the entire meeting. Jodie provided a perfectly inspirational evaluation of Kendalls speech and complimented her on the effective use of space and gestures. Tikiri returned to us after a long absence and -placing her beaming smile aside momentarily - shared with us a table topic on anger. Denise responded to a table topic gave a fine gesturing example of taking a shower - but managed to speak for just 17 seconds on that topic! Oh dear! Mike gave us a table topic on cheekiness and his family, and due to the timer being so engrossed in the speech, Mike just took off and managed to speak for 2minutes and 18 seconds! There is no stopping Mikes ability to entertain! Kendal kept us on our toes responding to a table topic on freckle. trickily she was referring to the edible/chocolate type! Who would have guessed? Those who made it to the meeting now know a little bit more about Mikes interest in calligraphy, his interest in footy (go the Tigers!), Kendalls keen sense of direction, and her interest in international tennis (and chocolate), Tikiris creativity in making beautiful coffee table books and the importance of her family, Jodies interest in meditation and the interesting area of DHHS where she works, and Denises interest in Japanese Kanji.

05.01.2022 What a day!!! We had another full-house meeting, #313. Denise, our Toastmaster of the day, warmed up the meeting with a round of robin: your reflection on 2019-20? Among us we shared a super busy year with school pickups, goals have been achieved and yet to be achieved, learning Japanese, bucket list tick off, a whole new year of experience in Melbourne, taking care of family, pets. ... The list never end. What a year! Hong, one of our newest member, shared with us her personal stories on the subtle benefit of meditation. It is amazing how a 5 minutes of meditation can help. : when an unexpected problem arrives at one door, open another door and let the problem out, Hong gestured this perfectly! Phil from the Waffler Toastmaster Club was presenting Evaluate to Motivate from the Success Club Series. Ive learnt quite a few tips and keep those close to my heart for the next evaluation : use your ingenuity, avoid using the word "never", be constructive and motivating. What else did you pick up? Table Topics were addressed by Gemma and Elena, well done and entertaining! Quick thinking is a skill and they both have it. Meeting was wrapped up with general business and guest feedbacks.
