24.01.2022 Men's Shed provide friendship, activity and community to men from all walks of life. They also provide a valuable service to the community by using their equip...ment and skills to repair items that would normally be thrown out or make small batches of items that are too small for commercial operations. They are an wonderful resource for everyone in the community and we spoke with the Mosman Park Men's Shed to find out how it all works. If you are interested in joining a Men's Shed in your area, starting one up or seeing if they can help you with a repair project, see their website at https://mensshed.org/ See more

19.01.2022 June is Bowel Cancer Australia Awareness month. Each year over 15,000 Australians are told they have bowel cancer, 1,414 people under the age of 50. Bowel can...cer claims the lives of 5,375 Australians every year, including 292 people under the age of 50. What is amazing about bowel cancer is almost 99% of cases can be treated successfully if found early. However, fewer than 50% are found early, despite the two most common screening and diagnostic tools (colonoscopy and faecal occult blood test) being simple and easy to access. I had a colonoscopy recently and even though so many people commented that surely I must be too young for such a procedure, I had very good reason to ~ Kyra Read the full story here: https://nvnews.com.au/what-is-it-like-to-have-a-colonoscopy/

17.01.2022 A group of Gingin Shedders attended the Tronox open day at the Cooljarloo minesite on 10 March. The displays and the staff on site were fantastic. The site tour gave a great insight into the mine’s operation and their revegetation programme’s success. Well done Tronox. We even caught Polly threatening to do a reverse bump on a very large dump truck!! Watch out truck, Polly has a reputation of reversing into things he shouldn’t.

16.01.2022 Men’s Sheds do so much in our communities to bring people together, help them feel good about themselves and maintain an active body and mind. The sheds themsel...ves may be temporarily closed as part of the response to COVID-19 but the mission of helping people stay connected does not change This week the Governor-General spent time talking with the Australian Men's Shed Association about new initiatives to help members stay connected through this time. It is important for all Men’s Shed members and indeed all Australians to stay connected. Call or message your mates and make sure they are doing okay.

16.01.2022 The Moore River News has just published an article mentioning our December Christmas Lights bus trip. A great outing that we hope to repeat this Christmas. Well done to Terry and Margaret for their fundraising efforts.

15.01.2022 The Gingin Men’s shed is now closed until further notice. At the moment, you can’t come to the shed but you can call. We are asking our community to make contact with people at risk of social isolation. The next time you're sitting down for a coffee, think of family or a friend who is at risk of social isolation and give them a call. There will be people in our community who now face weeks, perhaps months, with minimal social contact, or in some cases none at all.

14.01.2022 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone. That's why it's so important for us all to stay connected. You don’t have to be an expert to keep the conversatio...n going when someone says they’re not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before they’re in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life. If you or anyone you know needs help or support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14.

14.01.2022 Soup du jour Thursday’s. You may remember that Colin H was permanently banned from making lunches two years ago after his CHILLI pumpkin soup effort. However, in the spirit of the men’s shed, we have forgiven (but not forgotten) and are prepared to give him another chance. We therefore announce that this Thursday’s soup du jour lunch will be Colin’s pumpkin no chilli soup served with crusty bread.

14.01.2022 The Shed will be offering a hammer alignment service in response to the number of reported accidents. Please call at the shed this morning, April 1, to have your hammer realigned. This is a free community service.

07.01.2022 Smartphones Friend or Foe? A recent article by the Australian Psychological Society identified that Australians are the fourth biggest smartphone users in the world. Aussies spend an average of 2.5 hours per day on their phone; this equates to 38 days per year. These figures are not surprising when you think about it. Consider last time you were on the bus or at the pub, how many people had their eyes glued to their screens? How is all this time in front of a screen impacti...Continue reading
