23.01.2022 EGG SHORTAGE What’s that old saying about the best laid plans...... Well at The Happy Hens Eggs we have the best laid eggs....but just not enough of them! ... 2020 has been a rollercoaster! It has been so tough to predict how many eggs we will need each week to supply our customers. At one point a lot of our clients had to close their doors overnight due to Covid restrictions and we were left with an oversupply of eggs so we sold off a portion of our flock. Now we are all getting back to normal and we are selling out of eggs! Easy fix right, just buy some more hens? Easier said than done, our hens are ordered 6 months in advance! And the downside of free range/pastured hens? While they are free to roam and live their best lives, they are affected by the heat and cold and daylight! This recent heat has affected our hens lay rate in our oldest flock and we are seeing more thinner shelled eggs from them. So we are doing our best to juggle orders to make sure everyone gets their Happy Hens Eggs! Our new flock have started laying and will kick into top gear over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed this little insight into the ups & downs of free range egg farming and we cannot thank you enough for your support! The Happy Hens Eggs team

These little guys are almost 1 year old and are Scottish Highlands - you might recognize this breed from.....the picture from Kmart that hangs in EVERYONE’S house! So we need your help to name them! These guys are brothers and we’d love to see your name suggestions for them, possibly something to reflect their Scottish heritage! ... So fire away in the comments!

12.01.2022 Wow! It's been 12 months since we were invited to be a part of the Wodonga Local Food Network event where I had to get up and speak to a room of 100 people I also met the lovely Costa! I had been so unwell leading up to this event and had come out of hospital just in time to attend. I was blaming the antibiotics for making me even more unwell and then realised I was pregnant with Hugh
08.01.2022 R U OK? - Part 2 Australian agriculture was probably my first love. I was lucky enough to be born into a farming family and have grown up surrounded by farmers, trucks, cattle and now chooks! If you’re ever talking to a farmer you know there are some guaranteed conversation starters, the weather, rainfall, cattle prices, grain prices etc. ... But something farmers are not good at talking about? Their mental health. And asking for help?? Forget about it! Farming is early mornings, late nights, bogged tractors, dead animals, drought, bushfires....the list goes on. But farming is also an incredible lifestyle! Bottle feeding lambs, working outside in the fresh air and sunshine, the satisfaction of a fat mob of cows and calves, a yellow canola field and nothing beats a bonfire down the paddock. So next time you run into a farmer, make sure you ask R U OK? #supportaussiefarmers
08.01.2022 R U OK? - Part 1 R U Ok Day is such an important day, this year more than ever. As a vet nurse, I’ve had an amazing career in the veterinary industry! However this is an industry that is massively affected by mental health illness and suicide. Vets are four times more likely to take their own life than others, which is double the suicide rate of doctors, pharmacists, dentists and nurses.... Why? Massive hours, stress, financial, abusive clients and routine euthanasia takes a huge toll. I’ve had an incredible 10 years working as a vet nurse and it’s not all doom & gloom but I’ll be honest - it can be so tough. So if you see your vet or your vet nurse today (or any day!) make sure you give them a smile and ask, R U OK? #bekind
08.01.2022 HAMISH & DOUGLAS Hamish is the lighter colored steer and Douglas is darker in colour. Thank you so much to everyone for their name suggestions for our new boys! ... Some of my other favorites were Fergus, Mooley Ray Cyrus, Wallace and Seamus.......the only solution to this will be more cows
