21.01.2022 I absolutely love the ethics behind people following a plant based diet. There desire to make a difference is admirable. The only concern for me is of potential for lacking certain nutrients. A vegan client approached me this week about supplementation, which has lead me into recommending my top 5 supplements for vegan athletes. Vitamin D3 The best way to get your vitamin D is through the that’s how your body best absorbs it, but unfortunately a large majority of the pop...ulation has low levels and Vitamin D is advised for both vegans and non-vegans. You would want to choose a Vitamin D3, as this is the most absorbable source. Taurine Taurine is an amino acid only found in animal protein, most commonly . It has a key role in regulating the stress response and cortisol levels in the body. It helps to raise the neurotransmitter GABA, which is the neurotransmitter that helps you calm down and sleep at night. 6 grams supplemented a day for vegans can help improve mental and athletic performance. Zinc Many vegetarian foods contain zinc, but with low bioavailability, which means the body is not very good at using it. If you do a lot of training, you would want to add in zinc as a supplement. During heavy training, even non-vegans can struggle with low levels of zinc and supplementation becomes important. Creatine Creatine serves as an energy reserve for the body for periods of short intensive training such as heavy weight training, sprinting, and explosive work. Creatine is derived from meat and fish The body can produce small amounts on its own, but not enough for peak performance. Vegan muscles will be deficient in creatine, and it’s actually shown that vegans supplementing with creatine have greater improvement in performance as compared to omnivores when taking creatine as a supplement. Carnitine Carnitine is derived from an amino acid and found in nearly all cells of the body. Supplementing may improve fat burning, metabolic function, insulin sensitivity, and play a role in reducing inflammation. The body can synthesize carnitine from amino acids but it might not be able to keep up with energy needs if you’re a hard-charging vegan athlete.

12.01.2022 Meditation is a proven, powerful tool that has been proven to help with symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, enhance longevity, and minimize the cognitive decline that comes with aging. If you haven't already, check out my podcast with Tom Cronin to learn more about meditation and it’s benefits. Cranked my morning meditation up a notch as of late by completing outside in silence. Normally use a guided up in the form of Calm or headspace however I am much preferring quiet stillness in the morning and utilising one of these apps in the evening.

11.01.2022 Although I avoid sugar at absolutely all costs, I would 9/10 choose to consume a truckload of sugar as opposed to damaged fatty acids commonly found in canola, sunflower or vegetable oil. I discovered this a while back after delving right into the work of Dave Asprey Bulletproof Why is this? Although consuming high amounts of sugar is certainly not healthy or advised, you can burn off all this sugar with intense physical activity. Unfortunately though this is not the case wi...th these inflammatory oils in canola and vegetable oil. Both of these are unstable and oxidize easily during processing. Oxidised oils can affect your cell membranes, damage your DNA, inflame your heart tissue, and make you fat. Unfortunately damaged cell membranes are not something you can ‘burn off’ through exercise. These are the two most common nutrition choices I advise to avoid when designing nutrition plans. What to opt for instead? Ghee Olive Oil Avocado oil Coconut Oil

04.01.2022 Chances are you’ve engaged in the negavtive feedback loop more then a few times. You might be anxious about confronting someone. This anxiety then leads you into wondering why your so anxious. Before you know it your becoming anxious about being anxious. You might find yourself angry at something small and you have no idea why, and the fact that you are pissed off so easily starts to piss you off more. Both of these are common examples of the negavtive feedback loop. ... This is why not giving a fuck is key. By not giving a fuck about the small things you short circuit the negative feedback loop and reverse your mentality. I encourage you all to approach this weekend with this mentality! #stressless
