One of its functions is to produce and re...gulate melatonin (that beautiful little hormone responsible for regulating our sleep/wake cycles). Rene Descartes a french philosopher, mathemetician and scientist believed the pineal gland to be the "principal seat of the soul" It is also often referred to as the Third Eye. We still have so much to learn about the effect essential oils have on our brains. We know though that different essential oils stimulate/affect different parts of the brain. Some of the oils that have a direct effect on the pineal gland are: Cedarwood Frankincense Lavender Roman Chamomile Sandalwood Everyone on my page knows of my love affair with Cedarwood. I'm not a great sleeper. A few years ago when I knew little about essential oils but were totally in love with them, I decided to try cedarwood for sleep. I had never used cedarwood before but I owned it. I had no idea that it was great for sleep. I was just drawn to it. That night I had the best sleep in a long time. I remember waking up with a completely dead leg because I obviously hadn't moved much. That is so unlike me. I usually toss and turn all night. I may have even drooled a little on my pillow That was the day I fell in love with Mr Cedarwood. I have since learned that he has many other great uses! Lavender helps many people but doesn't have the same effect for me. We are all individuals and will react to things differently. Whenever someone has sleep challenges though I recommend Cedarwood. (PS Cedarwood has an affinity with chronic conditions) The other oils mentioned though are also beautiful calming oils and can help with sleep challenges.
