The funds will be used to purchase 50 large Greensmart self-watering pots filled with soil an...d distributed to self-nominated recipients. The project will run until June 2021 where recipients will receive seeds quarterly as well as opportunities to participate in workshops facilitated by local Permaculture and gardening experts to assist with setting up and planting out the boxes, caring for and harvesting the produce and other gardening and food sustainability practices. The ‘Living Food Boxes Project’ aims to offer a degree of food security by providing access to free, healthy, fresh food to support recipients who may be struggling because of the economic, social or health fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. Information on how to self-nominate your interest in receiving a pot will be made available shortly. The grant also enables the appointment of a co-ordinator for the project. More details will be shared on this shortly, please get in touch via our email if you feel you would bring something special to this role. [email protected] THFF are excited this project will support the development of food growing skills of local community members, connecting people through good food learning and growing. The Hills Food Frontier would like to sincerely thank Yarra Ranges Council for the ongoing support of our community projects and for funding this exciting project. Thanks also to @greensmartpotsaustralia for your generous discount on the pots. Original idea for using the pots this way came from Cultivating Community.
22.01.2022 An excellent and grass-roots driven story of hope - young farmers, linking up with donated land, to grow affordable food for local folk. Sounds like just what our communities need, yes? Great project, thanks for sharing Milkwood
22.01.2022 Celebrating 5 years since the launch of Food Is Free Tecoma!! What an incredible resource sustained and valued by our local community. Thank you for all who have visited the FIFT cupboard, fridge and freezers and a big shoutout to all who maintain and care for the cupboard on a regular basis!! These past months FIFT has increasingly provided access to food when food insecurity has unfortunately affected more and more people. The Hills Food Frontier are extremely grateful to Tecoma Uniting Church for our partnership for the FIFT and FLAME Garden and support over these years. Come visit FIFT, opposite the Tecoma bakery on Burwood Hwy. Take what you need, leave what you don’t, share what you have with love. Food Is Free Tecoma

08.01.2022 Whilst not strictly about good food, this is a good coffee/chai story to support. Damon once called the Hills his home and this edible hot drink cup has been invented by 2 women from Melbourne. They want to crowd fund it. Maybe a nice Festive Season present for you to consider. Shakti

03.01.2022 Now that we can travel, why not try other village cafes a little further away. Meet Thapo from Johannesburg. He and his wife have been in Australia for five years. Thapo is the barrista at Harrow and Harvest in Lilydale. This character filled cafe was opened last July by Eddie and Frazer. They sell good food as well as local art and other products. Visit them soon.
