24.01.2022 THE AUSTRALIAN STANDARD Project Of the 24+ million Australians today, around 3% of the population is Indigenous. Over 5% were born in the UK and 2.6% came from New Zealand. Then China, India, Philippines, Vietnam and so on, in decreasing number order. The average weekly earnings is $1,499.30. So says the Australian Bureau of Statistics. I was born in Australia. - I was born in an offshore territory.... I have a tertiary degree. - I have two. I dont earn $1,499.30 a week, but I do currently have a regular job. - Me too. I am loved and supported and not on an at-risk list, yet still only a single misfortune away from living in my car. - Yes! We have not even whispered about politics or religion or gender or genetics or sexuality or reproduction and already I feel centralised. - Quantified and impersonalised. But the Australian Bureau of Statistics has never met me. - Or me Am I the Australian Standard? - I am SO not standard. Despite what some clothing labels profess, one size does not fit all, but one country CAN fit all. We want Australia to be a welcoming and inclusive country that celebrates individual and cultural diversity. How you look, your name or your accent should not be a basis of discrimination or make you any more or less Australian. Place by place, community by community, our differences ARE Australia. None of us is standard but together we all make up The Australian Standard. We invite you to participate in The Interventionists project: The Australian Standard. This is a conversation about being Australian. Upload a photo of your face and tell us something about yourself in 25 words or less. More info on the Project and where you can view the final artwork, coming soon. Tell your friends. See more

23.01.2022 http://artofintervention.blogspot.com.au In the spirit of supporting and encouraging art as intervention, we've posted the text and a youtube link of a timely new poem from Australian writer Suzanne Verrall. See it on The Interventionists blog.

23.01.2022 If you have read our previous post about the Australian Standard project and you wanted more information, read on: What is AUSTRALIAN STANDARD project? - a large scale public mural that makes a comment on the fact that there is no such thing as a standard Australian. We are a nation of great diversity and we want to celebrate this so our idea of the Australian Standard is diversity itself.... What will the mural be? - We will collect as many photographs of the faces of Australians as we can and we'll use these to create an image that captures this diversity. How will we get these images? - people will send them to our FB page. We would love you to be part of this project! Take a selfie (head shot only please) and send it to us. Tell your friends and ask them to be involved. We passionately believe that it's important to celebrate our diversity and as artists and interventionists, we reckon this is a good contribution. Be part of it! Go on! To send us a photograph of yourself, please private message it to us. We wil NOT publish any of the photos we receive on our FB page, your image is for the artwork only.

06.01.2022 Sitting here drawing and trying to think of creative ways to make people feel good... I always think that one of the ways we can help each other to feel good is to listen. Being heard is powerful.... Being seen in a way of our own choosing is powerful. Having our selves reflected back to us in a positive way is vital. So. Here is an offer. STEP 1. - Take a photograph (of you, or the dog, or the cat) doing something that is helping to make these strange times more positive. Something that is good for your wellbeing and mental health. STEP 2. - Send it to me. STEP 3. - I will make a drawing of what you send me and post it on the Interventionists Page. Why? Well I am wondering if sharing our playful, gentle, contemplative or whatever activities, we can feel seen and remember that we are all connected - through our loves and quirks and sadness - and we can share strategies for staying well through these hard times. What do you think?
