To celebrate Spring, with a month of posts on how #friendsofthejetty view their new beginnings, Rita tells us her son Taj’s arrival was when she decided to dedicate her life to living in the moment. Your world gets tipped upside down as a parent. Before I put a lot of life into self-care. When Taj joined mi...ne and my husband Izzy’s life, he added are more meaningful layer and reason to cultivate gratitude every day. Taj peeled away the layers of who I was, which made way for who I was to become. That first year was a very transformational time. I tried to be mindful of the changes and the struggle. 23.01.2022 Helping us celebrate #friendsofthejetty Kellie from @babybyboutiquebundles, at @thirroul.collective and now based in her new Corrimal shop on Railway St., shares her latest fav pic and what’s on her mind lately. Plenty thought I was mad starting a retail shop during COVID lockdown. My husband was made redundant in May, so we thought now was the perfect time to grow our small business. We love a challenge and jumped at the opportunity to expand into Corrimal. It’s definitely ...been a challenge with our sassy 3-year-old Flossy in tow, said Kellie. But, we’re not mad. I just knew others would share my passion for new Australian products for babies and children. People are still having babies. They want to share the joy and shower them with gifts. I guess I’ve chosen to keep remembering my ‘why’. I’m doing this for my family. This has been my goal for a long time. My mum has passed away but I always saw her, as a single mum, put her heart and soul into what she wanted to do. I know she’d be proud of me. But great too. We've hosted dozens of events including weddings, baby showers, and birthday and Christmas parties. We're so thrilled you chose us to help you make those occasions special. To our suppliers, including our food trucks, and our new partnership with @indieandthebee we couldn’t have ...done it without you all. A particularly big shout out to all our important regulars who keep turning out for us every weekend. We've loved getting to know you and sharing some good times. We look forward celebrating more of those with you in 2021. And, of course, none of this was possible without our epic team. 06.01.2022 On this last day of the first month of Spring we celebrate new beginnings with Lisa Brooke of @theeveprojectau, a not-for-profit organisation supporting female survivors of abuse with therapy, education and hospitality work experience programs. We met Lisa through the program’s Social Enterprise, EVE & Co, which has the cutest mobile food van nicknamed ‘Eve’. Lisa heads up a team of casual staff and program participants who cater delicious food for events like ours and priva...te functions. One program participant said to me last week, ‘I don’t think I’ve ever felt so loved and accepted with people willing to help me. I’ve never felt so encouraged by what my future holds,’ said Lisa. In 2017 I joined forces with co-founder Helen Dwyer to start The Eve Project and since launching EVE & Co last year I’m now seeing how it works to help break the cycle of generational trauma. There just aren’t enough programs out there which hold survivors of violence long enough to allow them to heal.
