22.01.2022 Recovery Done Right My boys Jaxon & Lewis are by my side every step of the way, although, they dont understand why I am at home with them everyday at the moment and not playing ball & having fun with them at the dog park It has now been one week since my stem cell injection, it was a painful & fast procedure over and done within 20 minutes or so... I could not believe the small amount of stem cell fluid that was sitting there ready to be injected under local anaesthetic with the guidance of ultrasound equipment. I laughed and said to my surgeon that I expected to see more for my $10,000 investment, he asked if I would like the nurses to arrange for some balloons and streamers, I personally thought a marching band would have been more appropriate !! I was told there were millions of stem cells in that little syringe. The damage to my knee is from the centre to inner medial area, the injection was given from outer side of knee as I was told it is easier to access the joint from that position, Julian said the stem cells would travel to the damaged area and start to do their thing. Within a few minutes I felt as if I was being stung internally by a thousand bees at the same time, it was a totally surreal feeling not knowing what was going on inside the knee. I was assured this is a good thing as the stem cells had made their way to where they were meant to go. My leg was then bandaged up with ice packs and I was given extras to change them over on my way home. For the next 48 hours there was continued swelling, loss of range of motion and pain controlled with medication. As each day passes range of motion is improving, Im doing lots of non load bearing exercises. I am using two crutches and only loading on my knee as little as possible. It is now an important time to protect the joint, not overload it where possible and wait for the stems cells to do their thing over the coming months. I will update in a few weeks with progress. Have a great weekend, drive safe if you are heading away. Kerrie

13.01.2022 Harvest procedure is booked in for Monday 26 August, I wish it were happening tomorrow, so keen to get things underway, 26th was the first available spot Leading up to this day I am required to have a EGC Pre operative screen & blood test During the day procedure there will be a cannula inserted, then off to theatre for the harvest which will involve a minimally invasive liposuction procedure performed under local anaesthetic infiltration, you are awake during the procedure..., I will also have plasma taken and receive a Platelet Rich Plasma Injection (PRP). After the harvest, the harvested fat tissue will be taken to a laboratory for processing On the day you are required to pay $9,400 to cover the following: Doctors procedural fee $1,150 Lipoharvest $1,000 Culturing/expansion/storage $3,500 MSCC facility fee $3,750 There are several guidelines to follow one week prior to this day including not taking vitamin E, fish oil or anti-inflammatories as this may increase the risk of bleeding Post operative - minor swelling and bruising is not uncommon at the site of the harvest, it may last 8-6 weeks. A routine post-operative review will happen 1 week after the procedure Stem cell injections cannot be done until at least 8 weeks after the harvest, this gives the laboratory time to isolate and grow the stem cells from the harvested tissue. The information I have noted here is taken directly from Melbourne Stem Cell Centre Treatment Guide My next update will be after the 26 August with a report on how the procedure went Until then I will continue seeing my physiotherapist, swimming at least 3 times a week, programmed weight training and aiming for continued weight loss to help take pressure off the joint I am amazed at the sheer volume of people I come into contact with daily that have or know someone with joint problems, it is so easy to take your health for granted (like I did) until something goes wrong. If you have any questions at all please feel free to send me a private message or comment here, thank you Kerrie

09.01.2022 So, this is really happening, after an accident resulting in two knee surgeries, 15 months on crutches, lots of swelling & pain every single day, Im going to try Stem Cell Treatment to see if I can avoid a knee replacement. Im a bit scared, nervous & excited, my GP advised against paying a lot of $ to be experimented on and I have spoken to other medical professionals who support the idea. Soooo... if you or someone you know is suffering with knee problems, feel free to f...ollow my page, I will update you every step of the way with my progress. Following my intuition and staying positive for a successful outcome. Kerrie Ford

09.01.2022 Finally.... Its Game Day Im off to Melbourne to have my harvested stem cells placed into my knee today. I have given my surgeon an extra challenge as shown in the scan image.... Two weeks ago I experienced increased pain and a bad feeling in the joint area, followed with swelling, more instability when walking & increased pain when sitting with a bent knee. Last week I went back to Melbourne for another scan, a 1cm piece of bone has gone from the section of bone that had necrosis, this is clearly not a part of my healing plan! I am all set for when I return home for rest & recovery, everything set up including my computer & phone (of course!), doterra oils, healing crystals ( I hope they are fully charged and ready to do their thing) and a shower chair I will post an update in the next few days, happy Thursday everyone Kerrie

08.01.2022 Im getting there, just taking my time via the scenic route.... As per the headline, Im getting there, however, taking the long way to reach my destination, although my doctor thinks my progress is ahead of time! In the past couple of weeks whilst on holiday I have felt really positive experiencing some improvement in pain level when walking (on two crutches) and increased range of motion... There has been one problem blocking my progress, the bone fragment floating around my knee is getting caught in the joint causing pain and locking the joint until it moves, then it starts to feel ok again until it happens again On Monday I headed to Melbourne Stem Cell Centre for my first review, although its early days, my doctor is happy with my progress and has booked me in to repeat the stem cell injection process in April If the bone fragment issue doesnt correct itself within 4 weeks the doctor will arrange for it to be surgically removed as it needs to be right before the procedure in April Started back at physiotherapy today, focus for next few weeks is to retrain my brain to walk with a normal gait, so challenging after leaning on my good leg for so long So... my next update will be in approximately 6 weeks Staying focused & positive, I have a feeling this treatment is going to work I hope you are all well & have a prosperous 2020 Take care Kerrie

05.01.2022 Things are underway...... Back to the beginning, I have had my initial consultation with Dr Julien Freitag at Melbourne Stem Cell Centre in Box Hill North, we spent one hour going over my past and current MRI scans, discussed the knee damage in detail, carried out a physical examination and was advised of the whole process from start to finish. Dr Freitag then said I was a suitable candidate to undertake the process, he believes I have a 80-85% chance of achieving a result ...great enough to avoid having a knee replacement, it was made very clear that this treatment does not work for everyone. The cost for this consultation was $240 of which $61 was refunded via Medicare. Moving forward from here, the future treatment costs can not be claimed via Medicare or Private Health Insurance as it is a new and emerging treatment. I will cover the future costs and treatment plan in a few days time Have a great day See more

03.01.2022 It all happened yesterday, 9am start at the Melbourne Stem Cell Centre, I so hate wearing those paper thin hospital gowns! I was in and underway in no time, standard sign your life away, we are not responsible if it goes pear shape forms had to be signed and a quick health check, blood pressure etc Plasma was taken first to be prepared for PRP injection at end of procedure, then local anaesthetic into abdomen, stem cells taken from both sides of abdomen using a procedure ...similar to liposuction, stitches, waterproof dressings and a compression bandage to finish it off, then PRP injection done again using local anaesthetic, over and done within one hour It was fairly painful, however, worth it considering how it may help in the long run Then it was off to a comfy recovery area, sandwich and a drink, then down a level for an MRI scan I was then free to travel home, by 6pm things got real, pain in abdomen, knee area swelled up and it was hard to bend the knee, sleep was minimal given Im a side sleeper and wound each side made it hard, 6 pillows later and I was set for sleep in an awkward position Still felt very sore this morning, moving around a bit at home seems to be helping, pain now a 6/10 and feeling itchy Stem cells are now at a laboratory going through a period of isolation and expansion. I will be going back on 24/10/19 to have them injected into my knee, it will then follow with two weeks of complete rest to allow it to do its thing Thanks for following, I will keep you updated as things happen!
