20.01.2022 At home today selling left over stock from the shop. I need to clear some of the homewares to make some space in our house! Meanwhile we are planning to be in France in July/August so have to get onto organising a visit to the home of 'Le Prince Jardinier', Chateau de la Bourdaisiere in the Loire. I have been told that the Paris shop was featured in Woody Allen's 'Midnight in Paris'...I haven't seen it yet but it would be the shop with all the huge stuffed animals and dear heads. Did anyone see it? abientot...k xx

15.01.2022 Bob Magnus (Woodbridge Heritage Fruit Trees) found an old tree laden down with deep red crab apples in a field in Huonville, Tasmania. Luckily for us he decided to propogate it and call it the Huonville Crab. I put one into my kitchen garden about four years ago...this year, voila, a bumper crop. But I am not a fan of crab apple jelly so thought I would give an apple paste a go. Am experimenting with adapting a quince paste recipe, can't wait to see the red colour of the crabs cook down...will let you know how it turns out!

13.01.2022 Give Dad a gift he can use. French made and designed gardening tools. The perfect gift this Fathers Day.

13.01.2022 Check out our new babies - Tinka and Spot, arrived probably two days ago but mother hen didn't let us see them until yesterday. Today I finally got a photo opportunity. The babies are two adopted eggs from Louise (thanks Aunty Louise) from Harvey and Ella. Son ABeatle, aged 7, says 'they will have two mums', 'yep' says me, 'oh yeah' says the lad, 'it's all in the DNA isn't mum'...mmmmm.

06.01.2022 Ok, the Huonville Crab paste worked perfectly! Supplies for many cheese platters to come. Such a great rosie red colour and an intense apple flavour. Very different from quince paste. Recommend a farmhouse chedder and a glass of Dolcetto di Dogliani (Piedmont)....mmmm!

01.01.2022 ok I have started a page called Cascina La Galeisa - thats our Italian house. I had tears rolling down my cheeks today because I got the first photo of her in a 'naked' state. The architects and the government (don't ask me how this works) but they are surveying the building. Apparently the Italian government called for an audit of every property in the country - every house had to be surveyed. So from what I can gather it was La Galeisa's turn and it happily coincided with u...s wanting to take a closer look. I must admit - I had to laugh. She looks ridiculous but more amazing than we had expected! Ok everyone, 'like' Cascina La Galeisa and you can follow the restoration of this family home. The three brothers who have decided to part with this once loved house, possibly where they grew up, have showed great heart and faith to hand it on to us. We feel like we have a little part of Italian history to protect and cherish. May her halls be full of the sounds of family and friends laughter and joy. k xx ps. and may her garden be full of Italian veg! See more
