20.01.2022 Shubhendu Sharma, founder of Afforestt, has mastered a method of planting small, dense forests in urban settings. On Earthday, I proposed that we teach his meth...ods to Brazilian colleagues near São Paulo. This week I learned that we will be receiving some form of support to do this, from the French Ministry of Ecology, since we placed #64 out of nearly 600 global projects in their 100 Projects for the Climate competition! http://www.100projetspourleclimat.gouv.fr/en/winners See more

The Atlas can be downloaded at: https://globalsoilbiodiversity.org/node/271

04.01.2022 This is the final video dealing with the 2-milion years old Jurien Bay chronosequence. The next videos will cover different topics; they were filmed in the same... region of the Global Biodiversity Hotspot. What is very special about the Jurien Bay chronosequence is that it is located in the Southwest AustralianBiodiversity Hotspot. Moreover, it is 'replicated' in a high-rainfall zone: the Warren chronosequence near Pemberton-Northcliffe. This allows us to study soil and vegetation development as a function of climate. This shows what a very special place the Southwest Biodiversity Hotspot is. Surely, this alone deserves UNESCO World Heritage Listing. Combine this with the fact that the region has been inhabited for well over 40,000 years, and it becomes obvious that this part of the world deserves special protection and attention.

03.01.2022 Dr Felipe Albornoz explains how pathogens account for the megadiversity in Southwest Australia's Biodiversity Hotspot. https://jecologyblog.wordpress.com//ecto-mycorrhizal-fun/

02.01.2022 In view of the fact, sandalwood was the first Western Australian export, it seems logical to grow them. As part of my forestry research I am finding ways to gro...w them more quickly without the use of fertilisers or irrigation - I am convinced that they have to experience harsh conditions in order to produce the oil that endears them with value. 01.01.2022 A beautiful article by Graham Bell - Letter from a Forest Garden - Small is not just possible, small is inevitable. Creating autonomous control of our economics... requires people to be able to create. And that means within the resources they have. Graham Bell asks, where better to start than a forest garden?
