22.01.2022 As part of their learning focus for NAIDOC Week, our Saplings and Sprouts spent the morning collecting nature from our very own gardens before creating a nature collage masterpiece! In the morning Educators gave each child a basket before taking a walk outside, we asked them to notice all the different natural materials in their area. What colour are the leaves? What sounds to the twigs make when you walk over them? What animals or wildlife can you see? We asked children t...o collect small items from the natural area that captured their interest. Whilst collecting we took this time to talk about the traditional owners of Australian and their deep connection to the land This was also a great way to remind children of the importance of looking after nature and the native animals that call it home. #socialconnectivity #healthyminds #healthyworld #healthycommunities

20.01.2022 I quite often look at my shadow. I like how it follows me round And does all the same things that I do Without ever making a sound.... It hides when the weather is cloudy. But I know it's always quite near, For later, as soon as the sun shines, My shadow is bound to appear. I've noticed sometimes in the evening, While watching the sun going down, My shadow gets all tired and lazy And stretches right out on the ground. But then when it comes to my bedtime, I lie down and switch off the light. My eyes close; I can't help but wonder Where shadows like mine go at night? Perhaps it meets with other shadows, Sits down and tells them about me, The silly things that I've been doing And hears its friends laughing with glee. But when I awake in the morning, I'm always delighted to see As soon as I draw back the curtains, My shadow's there waiting for me. 20.01.2022 A great read in the lead up to Christmas

19.01.2022 Indigenous peoples have thrived on Australian land since time immemorial. Many cultures and distinct peoples took shape over this time, all intimately tied in co-evolution with land. Nature remains integral to Indigenous systems across the country encompassing those of languages, politics, governance, and of course, education and childrearing. Through colonisation, these systems encountered new ones, intrinsic to Euro-Western cultures. There are fundamental differences of w...orldview between Indigenous and European cultures, values, practices, and actions. Understandings of outdoor learning and play are no exception. There is much to learn from Indigenous perspectives on outdoor play, perspectives that are rooted in the very places that all children play today. #physicalhealthandwellbeing #healthyworld #healthybodies #healthyminds #socailconnectivity

13.01.2022 Identifying different fruits and vegetables and their properties provides children with opportunities to explore and develop an interest in different foods. This assists with the development of life-long healthy eating habits. Discussion and investigation are encouraged, and the opportunities for extending interests that arise are endless! Note: In line with the EYLF Principle ‘Respect for Diversity’, Milestones Early Learning is about providing education and promoting health...y lifestyles in a respectful manner, not judging lifestyle choices of families and individuals. Educators think critically about opportunities and dilemmas that can arise from diversity and involve family and community members in understanding choices which lead to healthier lifestyles. #healthyfood #healthyminds #physicalhealthandwellbeing

12.01.2022 Letter recognition is the ability to name letters, identify characteristics specific to said letter, and letter formation of all 26 uppercase and lowercase letter symbols used in the English language. That’s 52 letters total. Letter recognition includes being able to differentiate between different letters and their shapes, and should be taught before, or at the very least, in conjunction with letter sounds. #foundationallearning ... #healthyminds See more

03.01.2022 Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives enhances the educational experiences of non-Indigenous children. It is important for us as Educators to acknowledge and respect each others' perspectives our ways of seeing the world and to find that place where we can all meet, grow and learn. #socialconnectivity #healthycommunities #healthyworld

01.01.2022 Today our Sprouts and Saplings explored stencilling art as part of their NAIDOC Week learning focus. The group also explored this theme through media. Educators showed children the song "I am Australian" in both English and the Aboriginal language. If the children had questions about differences in physical characteristics or cultural practices, we discussed them openly. This teaches the children that it’s okay to notice differences, and more importantly, it teaches him that... it’s good to talk about them. Learning to appreciate all kinds of differencesnot just racial and cultural but differences in socioeconomic levels, gender, and even disabilities is an important skill in today’s diverse society. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrcUKgP_sks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pL_JvhfQjms #socialconnectivity #culturalcompetence
