I was impressed by 7.30 last ...week when they showed how public funding is moved from regional Catholic primary schools to reduce fees in more affluent Catholic schools in urban areas. See more

The standards are reviewed every five years. For more information, visit the Consultation Hub at www.disabilitystandardsreview.education.gov.au. People can have their say by completing an online questionnaire, making a submission, participating in a webinar, or by expressing their interest in a focus group, one-on-one interview, or an online discussion. The first webinar on 23 July will centre on schooling. It’s incredibly important we review these standards regularly to make sure they are doing their job to give equal access and opportunity for students with disability, The standards help students with disability and their families know their rights and make clear the obligations of all education providers from preschool and kindergarten through to vocational education providers and universities." Teaching every child using evidence-based instruction to ensure they achieve above the minimum standard - essentially a functional level of numeracy and literacy - should be enforced as strictly as the legal requirement for attendance that students and parents are held accountable for.

05.01.2022 Why all the RED So who is making all this fuss about Dyslexia Awareness Month and why all the RED? Ask any dyslexic about their school experie...nce and they will tell you about the gut wrenching fear of receiving back their school work covered in red crosses and comments from a well intended teacher. So when as a small group of parents we began working together to raise awareness for dyslexia in Australia in 2015 the connection with red seemed like a natural relationship to build on. It helped too that parent groups in the US were already using the colour. Our group went on to organise a national campaign to light significant buildings and landmarks across the country in red to bring awareness (the campaign, called Light it Red for Dyslexia is in its 6th year in 2020!) And when it came time to establish an official NFP organisation in 2017 it seemed natural to lean towards our red beginnings. The colour influenced our name Code Read (pronounced RED) Dyslexia Network. Red is disruptive and cannot be ignored but it also highlights the urgency of the situation. In effect we wanted to say that it is time to stop sweeping this important issue under the carpet and take action. So please join us this October. Help us to cover the country in red!
