22.01.2022 I just caught up with East Coast Diesels owners Shane and Jodi Vivian at their Kunda Park Shop. If you’re a business owner whether small tradie with a single bobcat and a diesel UTE or a large operator with a fleet, and if having your vehicles in top working order and on the job is mission critical, then East Coast Diesels owners hours of operation says clearly we’re in this with you all the way Monday thru Friday 7:30am 9pm and breakdowns 24/7. When, I asked S...hane how long he’s been a diesel mechanic, he beamed and chuckled, since I was 17. I reckon I like fixing things. With many years as a mining operations fleet manager, Shane finally got over the romance of being a mining FIFO nearly three years ago and, wanting to spend more time with Jodi and their four kids, they bought ECD. Although the Pandemic has presented challenges, the pair related that the quarter before the restrictions was their best since opening. Now we’ve innovated to support our customers even further with longer and later trading hours and weekends as well. ECD offers in-shop, in-plant, and field fleet support. They’re most proud of the diverse 250 years’ experience of the team. Like a proud pop, Shane says confidently, we’ll do whatever it takes to keep our customers’ vehicles running in top shape and we do a range of metal fabrication and repairs as well. Trucks, Diggers, Dozers, Plant Power systems, Trailers, Tippers, basically anything diesel fits the ECD capability. If you rely on diesel equipment, then as Shane, Jodi and the team say, trust us to keep you moving.

20.01.2022 Hi Everyone I have been speaking to Johan Lundkvist who is Co-Founder of Dailygreatness where they help individuals overcome stress, anxiety and depression to gain clarity and take action towards their vision and goals. They also help organisations improve performance, engagement and wellbeing. Johan told me we do this through a simple-to-use and highly cost-effective methodology that’s endorsed by psychologists, mental health professionals and training & development ...experts around the world I asked Johan what got him into this business to start with Dailygreatness was founded by my business partner out of an organic need and realisation that there wasn’t anything in the market place for personal and professional growth that effectively bridges the gap between knowledge and action to create lasting results. Most people have experienced reading a book or attending a seminar and although they gained inspiration and knowledge from that source, 99% of the time it fades off quickly and old habits kick back in without them experiencing any improvement in the area they hoped to improve. This is what we solve business at the moment is mixed. Although we’ve experienced a decline in day to day B2C sales, we’ve also had a big increase from companies who want to use our solution, however, B2B is a longer sales cycle and a good test in patience originally, we were an e-commerce with a virtual team and set up since our start almost 10 years ago, so we are used to working in the environment we are now in. It has however challenged us to be more inventive with how we communicate externally and of course, we have a lot more virtual meetings now. It has also forced us to pull forward some new product and service development that we have demand for and instead of launching it mid next year it will be launched early 2021 I also asked Johan what they are most proud of with Dailygreatness no doubt, it’s being a part of helping people achieve their dreams and goals, and even real-life transformations. We’ve served customers in over 130 countries with our physical products and have received thousands of 5-star reviews. Our customers consistently tell us our products and programs are 'life-changing.’ We’re also proud of receiving professional endorsements from CEOs, wellness experts, business mentors, university professors and over 40 psychologists and mental health professionals who all use and recommend our methodology and products. In the last few weeks we’ve also signed with a few very interesting and progressive companies in different verticals to deliver our Success at Work products and Dailygreatnessatwork programs to their leadership team with a start in January This is another intriguing success story from right here on the Sunshine Coast. You can contact Johan via email [email protected] or visit their website www.dailygreatnessatwork.com

19.01.2022 Hi Everyone Today I had the pleasure of catching up with Amanda Belot who is Managing Director of Find My Fit . 18.01.2022 Hi Everyone I recently had the pleasure of catching up with Nicola Brunton Founder of Officiums and I asked her some questions and found her story to be very intriguing. In a sentence what do you do and who do you help ‘Officiumns is all about the office! I specialise in four broad areas; Bookkeeping, Web & Graphic design / editing, Social Media & Marketing. This can as simple as updating your database through to creating a new website. Officiumns is the one-stop-sh...op when it comes to your office and business needs. I help the small to medium sized business that are going through that very important growth stage and they may not be not quite ready to hire staff or temp, or they are struggling to it themselves so I’m who they call.’ How were you tracking before the big change ‘I launched in October 2019, so I was really just starting when things changed in March 2020. I really didn’t feel comfortable, nor was I going to be promoting my business during this terribly tough time, so I turned my attention to helping those businesses that were struggling. I donated my time to many businesses that needed assistance.’ What got you into this business to start with ‘A combination of things lead of the starting of Officiumns. I come originally from a hospitality background (so I love helping others!). I had been thinking about starting something for a couple of years and after finishing up in a long-term role for a National Not-for-Profit, the time just seemed right. It was time to put all my knowledge to good use.’ What's business like for you at the moment ‘Business is going well, a slow burn I like to call it. It’s nice to be able to get out and actually visit and talk to businesses now though. I do enjoy that.’ Any new services or systems that you've started doing? e.g. either new innovations or responses such as click & collect or meetings via Zoom ‘I’ve always been passionate about educating businesses or business owners, so I produce helpful and practical Tips & Tricks videos for those niggly issues in the office. These are all posted publicly, on YouTube and on my website. I have also started creating free starter e-books on topics like Xero and Social Media.’ What are you most proud of in your business ‘I’m most proud of the fact that I’m able to help small business with complete honesty and integrity. Officiumns is Latin for Office, translating to; Service, Sense of Duty, Trust & Function. I am constantly in awe of how much time, blood, sweat and tears business owners put into their business only to be, sadly, sometimes taken advantage of due to their lack of knowledge of certain areas. My vast experience and knowledge is my SUPERPOWER and I’m very proud of it. I love helping business thrive.’ Another Sunshine Coast business that deserves our support. You can contact Nicola via email [email protected] or visit the Officiumns website www.officiumns.com.au

17.01.2022 Hi Sunshine Coasters I recently met up with Grant Mealey who is the owner of Sunshine Coast Strength, which certainly is not your ordinary gym. Grant told me we are a new Strength and Conditioning Gym aimed at helping grassroots athletes and powerlifters improve their performances on the field... I started this business because I played Rugby League growing up and after retiring started competitive powerlifting . I immediately recognised the benefits that strength training would’ve provided me as a grassroots athlete and began obtaining the qualifications that would allow me to help the next generation of athletes. I’m very passionate about both men’s and women’s local sport, and believe we can really help each player improve we have been very fortunate because Sunshine Coast Strength as a business is progressing really well. Considering we only opened just over 6 weeks ago, we are very pleased. We are on track to meet our goals and more importantly, are helping our members reach and surpass theirs!... I am really proud of the fact that we are creating a great community . Our members are all very supportive of us, and each other, they train hard but also have lots of fun while they are at it Grant and his team at Sunshine Coast Strength are doing a fantastic job and deserve our full support. You can contact Grant via email [email protected] or via their Facebook page.

17.01.2022 2021 is here.... grab this opportunity for a Complimentary Ticket to sit and plan and discuss with other Business Owners here on the Sunshine Coast.

17.01.2022 Meet the Mum behind Ink Brothers Confounded by the high cost of ink cartridge and toner replacements. If you’re running a home based business, a medical or dental clinic, legal or accounting offices or any business that relies on ink jet or laser toner printing, then Lisa Wruck, the mum behind Warana based Ink Brothers has some great news for you. Ink Brothers can save you a heap of money and time on your printer cartridge and toner replacements. I reckon it’s the Sunshi...ne Coast’s best kept office support secret. I caught up with Lisa recently and witness a steady flow of customers happily discovering her cheery attitude and super prices. I love the expression on customers’ faces when they realise just how much they’re saving. And we back both Generic and OEM cartridges and toners with a 100% money back guarantee. Lisa shared that the business has been operating for 5 years and that she became the owner just over a year ago. The mother of two says she’s always wanted to be her own boss with the flexibility to spend more time with her two growing kids and the gratification of providing a real service to other business owners and individuals. Ink Brothers gave me both. Biggest challenge now? Just getting the word out and letting people know how much they can save and how convenient we are. But it’s not just toners and ink cartridges. Ink Brothers has a full service promotional products and graphic design capability as well. Start with the cartridges and toners and then pop in or ring for a good chat to Lisa about how Ink Brothers can help your business too.

14.01.2022 Meet Chris Welsh owner at CJW Accounting Toowoomba native and former Cricketer Chris Welsh migrated to the Sunshine Coast in 2006 for work with a corporate accounting firm. 12 years in, Chris took the leap and started his own boutique accountancy practice, CJW Accounting. My big desire was to have more control over my time and time with my family, but also to be able to provide a more personalised service. CJW clients range in size from Mum & Pop start-ups, requiring a ba...sic organisational structure to SME’s requiring the full gambit of financial and taxation services. CJW clients are mostly on the Sunshine Coast, but also throughout southeast Queensland with even a few nationally. The thing that gratifies me most is when I can fill the need for a small business owner, to give them some peace of mind around their financial and tax affairs. Most small business owners are so busy just running the business, they don’t have time to manage the taxation and other financial compliance issues in the business. So, if you’re running a business, whether it’s a micro business just starting out or a larger SME and you’re feeling a bit neglected when it comes to financial advice and support, I reckon a call to Chris Welsh at CJW Accounting might just bring the relief you’ve been searching for.

13.01.2022 Hey there Sunny Coasters . I had the pleasure of catching up with Zasco van Rooyen and Steve Brown who are the Partners of Baldwins Lawyers - Mary Valley Law Pty Ltd. Now both businesses have been around for some time and are well known across the Gympie and Noosa / Cooroy regions, and it seemed destiny for Zasco and Steve to take over the practices. Zasco and Steve have both migrated to Australia, but they did not meet until after they both relocated to the Sunshine Coast.... Zasco, originally from South Africa where he practised for 10 years specializes in Commercial, Property, Wills and Estates. Initially Zasco was raising his family in Newcastle, NSW for approximately 4 years when he decided to relocate to the beautiful and warm Sunshine Coast. The opportunity to purchase Baldwins Lawyers came up, and Zasco started his journey with very much a clean slate with this business with just himself and a part time receptionist. Steve, originally from the USA where he practised Family Law, met and married his wife in the USA, who was originally from Mooloolaba. They moved back to our beautiful Sunshine Coast to raise their family. February 2019, Zasco and Steve officially formed a Partnership in Baldwins Lawyers and their specialties really complimented each other, providing their Clients with a broad level of services. 1st of April 2019, they purchased Mary Valley Law Pty Ltd, which was primarily a Family Law firm and here we are today. There are a couple of the things that really stood out during our chat that I would like to share with you. Have you ever met a Lawyer that is happy to have a chat for free? Well, you are reading about a practise right now that does, but obviously to a certain point and dependent upon situations the client is facing. Zasco & Steve strive to provide a service that goes beyond the initial need of the client sitting in front of them. For example, if a client has a Conveyancing need, in most other situations this would be satisfied, and job done. Baldwins Lawyers will ensure that the Client is fully aware of everything else that may sit around this one transaction so that the client is fully aware of what they need to do before and after e.g. stamp duty, grants available etc. Have you ever heard a Lawyer say, If we help and do not transact with the client, then we are still happy? Baldwins Lawyers are not here to chase the dollars. They are here to make a difference in their Communities. Baldwin Lawyers Mary Valley Law Pty Ltd have quite a different approach and would be worthwhile checking out if you are ever in need of the services listed above. Nice work!!

13.01.2022 Hi guys... popped down to one of my favourite clients today to see the opening of their new shop front. Rebecca and Lutz, owners of Sprout Artisan Bakery well done guys.... and congratulations. #CallChris

13.01.2022 Introducing Buderim Air Sunshine Coast When owners Craig and Amy Krog instructed me not to focus this piece on them, but rather their amazing team, I had to see why for myself. Last week I visited the company’s Forest Glen HQ shed to get a selfie with the crew at Craig’s fortnightly crack ‘o dawn Toolbox Talk. As I entered the drive, the BA Team was abuzz like bees around the hive on a sunny day. All hands smiling and moving quickly through the shed prepping orders for th...e day, restocking, unpacking, and readying for the Toolbox Talk with Captain Craig. (I actually heard a team member call out Good morning Captain!) The fortnightly ritual reinforces an incredibly high team spirit. Each member with enormous pride not only in their individual skill, but also the top level of workmanship that the entire Buderim Air team embodies. It’s truly a wonder to behold. Some companies tout a wide range of services and Buderim Air can certainly make that claim. From domestic and commercial air conditioning systems, refrigeration and cold storage for commercial food producers, schools, and marine trawlers and an emergency cold room rental service, when refrigeration is mission critical. Craig noted that diversification helped keep business steady during the Covid lock downs and that the required safety protocols were scrupulously integrated into all parts of the business. What’s the secret to the great team? Craig beamed, we hire smart, self-motivated people who align with our ‘we put service first’ culture and equip them with ongoing skills training and, of course, the finest quality materials. Even though the team is their greatest source of pride, Craig and Amy are also like proud parents when it comes to their role in helping new businesses grow. We know it takes the support of many players over time to build a successful business and we’re here for our business customers’ long term success and our residential customers’ long term comfort. Whether for a small home system repair, new system design and installation, a large commercial land based or marine setup, or LG systems warranty service, you might save a heap of time by calling Buderim Air first.

12.01.2022 Hey there Sunny Coasters I just love it when I get to chat with someone from our Local Sunshine Coast Community who is making a go of it. Well today I got to chat with Gavin Hall, owner of Rectify Electricall, who is doing just that making a go of it. Now if we go back to 1999, Gavin has just kicked off his Apprenticeship straight from school in NSW (Go QLD!!! ). Gavin’s Apprenticeship took him into Electrician roles in Industrial Sites like Concrete Plants and oth...er Maintenance contracts across Sydney. Gavin and his Partner (now his Wife) decided to head over to England in 2005 to for 2.5 years, and the plan was to work in England and get as much time as possible travelling across Europe. The plan worked and Gavin got Electrical work such as maintaining 24 venues in the Health Care sector across London. Then home they came back to Sydney and kicked off a stint as a FIFO Fly In Fly Out in the mining sector over in Western Australia. Then did FIFO South Australia and eventually moved there. February 2019, Gavin, his Wife and two girls arrived on the Sunny Coast for a change of lifestyle. Gavin kept up the FIFO in SA until November last year. Then formed and launched Rectify Electrical January this year . What a year to start a business! During the first year, clients have been mainly domestic with all sorts of home maintenance and repairs along with renovations. Over the next year Rectify Electrical will be looking towards both Solar and Commercial, but at this stage, one step at a time. I asked Gavin what sort of feedback he has been getting from Clients. The level of communication has been key, and they love how tidy I leave things when I am finished. ..Gavin also made the comment Personally, I love a challenge and I won’t walk away from a problem until I work it out. Family time is important, and Gavin does like Golf, but has only played twice since moving to the Sunny Coast. Being a business that is not yet 12 months old, a lot of Gavin’s time is consumed in the business, though he does make as much time as possible to get to the beach with his family. Well, if you need an Electrician, I suggest you touch base with Gavin of Rectify Electrical. No job is to big or to small. Even if it is just to fix a single power point. Gavin is based in Peregian Springs but works all over the Sunny Coast .. just think of Gavin as Your Local Electrician. Nice work!! See more

12.01.2022 I just caught up with Kawana Auto Service owners Richard Earl and Lyn O'Neil. Definitely not your typical auto repair shop. Master mechanic Richard Earl has over 35 years’ experience across many brands of autos. New Zealand natives Richard and partner Lyn O’Neil have over 11 years helping families on the Sunshine Coast. Recalling some of the changes in the industry he’s seen over those years, Richard explained that, cars are more complex now, but also more reliable, r...equiring less frequent servicing, unfortunately, that leads many people to put off regular maintenance and running the car until something serious and ultimately much more expensive goes wrong. I asked if he was recalling the old proverb, ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’? Yes, he replied, that’s it exactly and taking care to maintain your vehicle on a regular basis can save money and headaches in the long run. I see it time and again. I know it’s probably a silly question, but when I asked Lyn to briefly explain what Kawana Auto Services do and who they help, she smiled and gave me a reassuring look like a caring mum or favourite aunt, we keep families on the road and we give them peace of mind. Richard is one part counsellor and one part automotive repair specialist. He’ll ask a lot of questions to learn more about the automobile and how it’s been cared for. We really endeavour to treat our customers like family. I’m even happy to provide a ride home for customers living within 8-10 kms. I guess the best testimonial we get is that we’ve got customers who’ve been with Kawana Auto Service over 20 years. Who amongst us doesn’t take our car for granted, depending on it for fun, for emergencies, to get us to and from our schools, jobs, churches - everywhere? Who hasn’t neglected to give it the care it deserves for all its dependable service? If any of those descriptions fit you and you just want peace of mind around your car, I reckon a visit to Kawana Auto Service and a chat to Richard and Lyn is just the place to go to get your trust in craftsmanship and integrity recharged.

11.01.2022 Hi Everyone Today I had the amazing opportunity to meet with Katina Cuba who is the Founder of The Expande Group. Katina told me I help SMEs to develop financial structure to make sure the business operates efficiently and has longevity. I also help keep the focus on cashflow to ensure that businesses have the funds and ability to prosper and grow. So, I guess you could call me a fractional CFO... Katina hails from South America, so it is no surprise that she has a number of clients both in Peru and Colombia. Before the restrictions from the pandemic came in to force her time was spent 60/40 on CFO/training programmes. Now she has found almost a reversal with the most time being spent on business financials training. She runs her training programmes in both English and Spanish. She got in to this line of business because of her strong passion to give back to the community. But also, to share her knowledge with smaller businesses who may not be able to pay an experienced CFO, so Katina founded Expande Group. I think my expertise as a CFO will best serve SMEs in manufacturing and retail, however my training expertise will be best suited to any entrepreneurial company looking to grow their business or find alternative ways of operating during these trying times. Katina is another great example of innovative thinking right here on the Sunshine Coast. Contact her via email [email protected] or visit her website www.expandegroup.com

10.01.2022 I recently had a very interesting Zoom chat with Ian Gibbs of Goo Media Group. Their goal is to help local businesses grow by making it easy for customers find their business online and to get more customers in their store by optimising their Local SEO, Social Media Marketing and their Google Search & Maps Ranking. Ian told me that .we started Goo Media Group just before COVID started so we were not tracking much at all. We offered our services for free to help local busin...esses get the word out that they were still open for business during the first lockdowns. .we started Goo Media Group from learning how to market our other business and product EzySNIP. I wasted a lot of resources on learning what not to do I guess you can say. From those failed exercises I realised that I needed to learn more so I found some training and started fresh. That presented an opportunity to offer those skills to local businesses that are in the same boat as we were. .business has been steady, although we are looking for additional work. I definitely have way too much time on my hands!.... .we are very creative and have always offered all options for contactless meeting as well as face-to-face with social distancing protocols, however face-to-face is my preferred option. There is something about being able to look into a person’s eyes ,and they ours, that helps build relationships. Text conversations is my least preferred, there’s no real way to read/see emotion or body language via text. . we are really proud of what we have achieved and that we are here and available to help any business that needs our skills. Even if it’s just for basic information, we are always happy to help. Of course, more regular paying clients that we can work with would be fantastic. Contact Goo Media Group via their website http://www.goomedia.group/ or mobile 0474194320 or Face Book https://www.facebook.com/goomedia.group See more

09.01.2022 Hey there Sunny Coasters . I meet lots of great business owners here in our beautiful region and every once in a while I find myself saying WOW! Well it happened again when I got the opportunity to sit down with Richard Burke, Owner and MD of DIGGERMAN based in Coolum Beach. 08.01.2022 Meet Tania Barton Founder and Director of Hobbits Knob Cat Retreat in Chevallum. Looking more like a restaurant resort in the bush than a boarding facility for cats, Hobbits Knob is simply jaw dropping in its physical design and scope of feline care. Hobbits Knob could certainly qualify as the Ritz of Cat Retreats. Created and overseen by Founder Director, Tania Barton, the cattery is five minutes off the Bruce Highway Forest Glen exit. Following a ten year stint as a ...veterinary nurse, Tania explained how her original vision for Hobbits Knob has grown through 13 years. Founded on her desire to share her passion for cats, Hobbits Knob now boasts a wide range of services from first class boarding accommodation to assisting cat rescue and rehab, post-surgery recovery care and even house calls and transport with their Kitty Caddy to assist seniors who lack mobility or busy owners who’s cats require medication during the day, even an onsite day care option. When asked what she’s most proud of, Tania quickly beamed, I’m pretty sure we’re close to being one of a kind and that I still make sure everything we do at Hobbits Knob fits my original vision and passion for cats. Risking a poor pun, I’m confident calling Tania a one of a kind Catvocate. If you’re a cat owner and in need of any of the services we’ve described here, I urge you to ring Tania, book a tour and be amazed for yourself at Hobbits Knob Cat Retreat.

07.01.2022 Hi Sunshine Coasters I recently had the pleasure of meeting up with Ashley Jubinville who is the Founder of The Kitchen Coach and it really was truly fascinating to hear her story. Ashley told me we help mums who want to provide healthier food for their families, to be successful with a proven, practical method. Unlike other programs and resources in the food or organisation space, The Kitchen Coach approach provides a comprehensive solution that lasts and continues to get ...Continue reading

07.01.2022 Meet Imperium Corporate Services Founder-Director Christine Genocchio Small businesses face a range of challenges as they grow. Marketing, promotion, delivery of services, maintaining product quality are all common concerns, but In the 10 years since the national Employment Standards were introduced, it’s now mandatory for businesses to be transparent in their employment policies and of course fully compliant with the national standards. Compliance can be a scary issue for ...a small business owner, but Imperium Corporate Services Founder-Director Christine Genocchio says that the word compliance isn’t scary. Christine offers a range of Bookkeeping, HR and Compliance services to make sure that owners can rest easy, knowing they are fully compliant. Especially since the onset of Covid-19 and rapidly changing workplace regulations at both the state and federal level, we’re sticklers at ensuring our clients meet all legal requirements. But it’s not just a question of steering clear of trouble, it’s foremost a matter of productivity. We’re there to help employers implement systems that promote a harmonious, productive workplace. Teaching skills including clear communications and inspiration have helped this former mining company CFO transition from North Queensland to founding a Sunny Coast corporate services firm. Christine has an almost fanatical attention to detail and integrity. As a corporate CFO, I was responsible for all accounts receivable and payable, human resources and workplace health and safety systems. I had to be extremely focused on details. At heart, I really love teaching and still maintain a part-time schedule teaching secondary students Health & Physical Education, English, Business and Certificate level Business & Tourism at various schools on the Sunshine Coast. When I asked Christine what she’s most proud of in her 3rd year at the helm of Imperium, the fact that our services are meeting and, in many cases, exceeding our client’s needs. Basically, I just like helping people and being able to help business owners grow with less stress is a huge personal win for me. Should we call Christine Genocchio the antidote for small business owners’ stress? Well, if it’s Bookkeeping, HR or Compliance issues that are keeping you up at night, then the answer is YES! A dose of Christine’s Imperium Corporate Services might be just what the doctor ordered.

06.01.2022 There’s gold in Golden Beach! I recently caught up with Kerrie and Craig Chandler, owners/operators of Golden Beach’s legendary, Bill's Boat and Bike Hire. I say legendary, as Bill’s has been a fixture at #1 Esplanade since 1956. In fact, Craig, a Caloundra High grad, told me that as a young man, he would help then owner Old George, ‘grab the tinnies at the end of the day.’ That’s when I first fell in love with the whole idea of being able to explore the northern ti...p of Bribie Island and the Pumicestone Passage. Kerrie chimed in adding, it’s amazing how many locals have no idea of the beauty and diversity of marine life in the Passage’s tidal waters and isolated beaches out on Bribie Island National Park. What we’re most proud of is our fleet and being able to help families create lasting memories. We’ve got families who’ve been coming back for decades. Men who had their first fishing experience as young boys and returned with their own kids and passing the tradition along. Speaking of fishing, Cap’n Craig is happy to point out the good fishing spots. And don’t worry about a licence as it is not required when hiring boats from Bill’s boats. Safety first is Bill’s mantra both for safe handling of the boats, SUPs, kayaks, and 4-wheeler bikes. Like most businesses, Bill’s have had to modify operations about to meet the Covid-19 Hygiene standards. Craig explained, before taking a craft out, we require them to watch our safety video. After the morning boats return, we spend time sanitizing the craft to meet our requirements and ensuring that our next crew are confident of a Covid safe environment. Same goes for day’s end. Just seeing the passage from the Esplanade took my breath away, but when Kerrie and Craig insisted I ‘come aboard’ for a quick hop over to Bribie, I felt tension drain straightaway and excitement fill me back up. Whilst the on-board BBQ stayed wrapped for our short jaunt, customers can hire the pontoon craft with BBQ and esky for the complete experience. Arrive happy leave happier, that’s how Kerrie and Craig brag about how their customers generally feel after their Bill’s experience. I know I did. So, don’t fret that you can’t book a luxury cruise. 06.01.2022 Hey there Sunny Coasters . I recently had the chance to chat with Trudi Newman of Format Kitchens, based in Warana. Format Kitchens kicked off over 25 years ago here on the Sunshine Coast. There are many Team Members that have been on a journey with Format Kitchens over the years .. the General Manger actually started as an Apprentice (but I won’t say how many years ago ), and many Team Members have been there for over 15 years. Format Kitchens have traditionally worked ...with the larger building companies here on the Coast focusing on new builds, and over time they have developed an opportunity in the renovation space as well. Providing solutions for the larger builders here on the coast has created the ability increase their purchasing power and pass these savings on to their clients. This has also given Format Kitchens the ability to carry a broader range of materials from economy offerings through to the more up-market materials. Format Kitchens are also very passionate about working with Local suppliers such as North Coast Stone, Harvey Normany and Sunstate Glass, which is great for our Sunshine Coast community. Trudi is an interior designer by trade and specialises in cabinetry and kitchen design - this is a great opportunity for their clients. Instead of working with a tradesman, you get to work with an Interior Designer to design and manage the job. This service is complimentary as well!Renovations are a key focus of Trudi’s, covering Kitchens, Bathrooms, Wardrobes, Laundries, Study areas and Media units. Format Kitchens makes before and after sales service a priority as well as meeting the client’s deadlines and budgets by providing project managers and quality control systems. Format Kitchens are another great business here on our Sunny Coast and are worth reaching out too. Well done. #CallChris

05.01.2022 I caught up with recently with Nathan Nichol, Founder Director of Cooroy based Food Profilers, a boutique food manufacturer of personalized products for food groups, franchises and retail. Nathan started cooking in 1993 and did his apprenticeship locally in hometown Noosa. Recalling his start, Nathan explained, My childhood dream was to be an RAAF fighter pilot, but that was dashed as teen with an asthma diagnosis. I first caught the cooking bug when I was about 1...4 and washing dishes at a Noosa area restaurant. The chef asked if I’d be willing to lend a hand, chopping or with other food prep tasks. You know at 14 you’re either resistant or accepting of new challenges and I’ve always been ready to try something new. One thing led to another and with practice, my skills improved, and I gradually fell in love with the whole idea of cooking and the endless amazing combinations of ingredients. After Noosa, Nathan went first to Sydney then to London for six years then back to Melbourne working at some of Australia’s most prestigious restaurants. Then with a newborn son and wife yearning for a warmer clime, the family moved back to Noosa where Nathan did six months cheffing at the former River Café before deciding to start his own operation. The couple won the Café tender at Noosa Private Hospital. The success of their fresh homemade menu led to catering for some of the docs and patients, and then winning the Cafe tender at Sunshine Coast Private Hospital. With difficulty maintaining quality control at two restaurants, Nathan opened a production kitchen in Noosaville and later, encouraged by the legendary Helen Brierty of Spirit House, began making curry paste, now one of their staples and the Food Profilers concept was born. With no preservatives and no shelf extenders Food Profilers look first to source the freshest local ingredients from one of Australia’s best growing regions. Although we use the biggest equipment we can, automating where possible, all our products are hand finished. Ask Nathan what he’s most proud of and he beams my international team of top-tier restaurant experienced chefs. My first responsibility - look after the team and they’ll look after the products and customers. I love payday! I love paying my staff. How many business owners shout that sentiment! That pretty much sums up the energy and ethos at Food Profilers. Topflight team, the finest ingredients, and Nathan Nichol’s absolute obsession with quality. Are you a food grower, restaurant operator, commercial fisherman (other?) and considering expanding your offerings or innovating to retail? Make your next call to Nathan Nichols at Food Profilers.

04.01.2022 In my quest to shine the light on amazing Sunny Coast business owners, I caught up with Michael Molloy, Co-owner of Mooloolaba-based dtb! Advertising. A veteran marketer with several senior management roles across the finance and blue chip consumer brands sectors, Michael came to the Sunshine Coast in 2001, joining dtb! Two years later, the stars aligned, and Michael asked then New York-based sister Joan to come home to the Coast and the pair bought the agency. We conc...entrated on Queensland with a focus on regional tourism organizations. Our approach then and still today is what I’d call an old school style of face-to-face meetings to build trust and strong long lasting client relationships. It might sound simplistic, but we believe that understanding the client’s needs is the mandatory first step in creating a brand and marketing program to help them grow their brand, reputation, and revenue. Once we gain that understanding, we give clients what our experience, research and best thinking tells us they need, even when it might not match what they initially think they want. Michael is bullish on the Sunshine Coast citing key factors including significant population growth, expansion of the Sunshine Coast International Airport, construction of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, the landing in Maroochydore of the 7000km Japan - Guam - Australia South (JGA-S) submarine broadband cable, and the steady growth of the University of the Sunshine Coast. And their focus on regional tourism? He explained with all the Covid-19 travel restrictions, people need their break more than ever. Australians love their vacations and Queenslanders are now discovering there are a heap of terrific getaway options here in the state and many within a few hours drive of the coast. The big challenge for local tourism based operators is to make simple for travellers and families to understand the value of their offerings and with most folks now depending on the internet for travel information make it easy to book online. When I asked what makes dtb! different and what he’s most proud of, Michael smiled and said, we create ideas that sell. What got me into this business wasn’t the money, but the creativity, and the helping people. I’m most proud that we’re still here 17 years later, that our work makes a difference and bringing many young people along in the industry. It’s a great feeling when we’ve been able to give someone their first job right out of Uni and after a few years with us, their acquired skill and ambition help them move on to larger or more focused roles. For old school personal service and fresh approaches that leverage the latest digital technology to building your brand, reputation, and revenue, it’s time to get down to business with dtb! 02.01.2022 I caught up with iMend Phones co-founder/owner Luke Ryan recently and discovered that iMend Phones repair all things mobile from Phones to Drones and computers as well. So how did Luke get started in this business? Necessity was the mother of the invention Luke shared, I broke my phone, got a quote that was way too high and my brother and I decided this was a market opportunity and so we utilised an unused van from a different business venture, hired a tech and we wer...e in business. Within three years, the business was tracking so solidly, that we acquired a Big Top-based repair business and about 7 years ago, moved to our present location on Cornmeal Pde. How was the business affected by the Covid-19 restrictions? We were declared an essential service with so many people and businesses forced online. We now regularly service staff at the Sunshine Coast Council, Unity Water, Queensland Police, Queensland Health and Fire and many other area enterprises who cannot work without their phone or tablet. Our offer is simple, a 1-year guaranteefor all work and with online quoting and booking, we’re generally able to get phones repaired with a one hour turnaround. The complete details are available on their website as well as all the brands they repair. Pretty cool, especially if you’ve ever had a cracked screen or other problems and faced the loss of online connectivity with your mobile phone or tablet. What amazed me as well is that the crew can fix problems with drones! I won’t go into the details of that service, but if you’re a Droner, you can view the options online or ring an iMend Guru to get started and sorted. So, how’s business now? So good that Luke says he fields a constant stream of offers either to invest or buy him out. I’ve consistently turned them down not because I don’t want to grow, but because we haven’t found the perfect candidate yet, an investor or buyer who isn’t going to add intellectual value. We’ve grown by providing excellent service using the best parts we can source, and we always offer original and generic replacement parts. So, after servicing over 50,000 devices over 8 years, I’m committed to growth but not at the expense of our excellent service. How do they do it? Luke says the secret is that he empowers his team. I simply hire great people with great attitudes, give them constant training and get out of the way. On top of that, we were one of the earliest adopters of the Covid-safe regime in our shop. What else do you need to know? iMend Phones is your on-call mobile phone, tablet, and drone emergency department. So best to get their number in your contacts list today in case you need them tomorrow. Good on ya Luke and team at iMend Phones.

01.01.2022 Following on from my recent chat with Ian Gibbs of Goo Media Group, I took the opportunity to learn more about his other product EzySNIP. They developed, manufacture and sell EzySNIP, the little garden tool for perfectly trimmed lawn edges. We help lawn fanatics, proud homeowners by producing the simplest & smartest way to trim that "hard to trim" "out of reach grass" that gets left behind during normal edge trimming, and without any bending, pulling or cutting, without gri...nding or trying to poison it away. Since the start of the pandemic business has slowed down. That coupled with limited funds and perhaps a few marketing mishaps has seen the pressure increase. But Ian is very optimistic and is confident that some really good experiences have been had and lessons learned during this trying time. EzySNIP started from a challenge to solve a problem for his Mum. Solving it gave him the idea that others might have the same issues and this might be something others have been looking for as well. All (??)he had to do was learn development, manufacturing and e-commerce, the legal stuff like patents, trademarks and copyright. Right now, business is slow but they are currently working on spring and summer marketing and customer education. They also have some really exciting prototypes on the drawing board to complement EzySNIP and increase the product range but at this stage they need EzySNIP to move a lot more before we develop them. Ian is obviously extremely proud of the fact that are giving it all a bloody good go! And course they should be justly proud that EzySNIP is 100% Australian owned and that they are manufactured right here on the Sunny Coast. EzySNIP is another great Sunshine Coast business that deserves our custom. 01.01.2022 Meet Katie Tealby of Laserzone Sunshine Coast , Laser Tag fanatic, Soccer Coach and State level goalie, entrepreneur, entertainment visionary. I asked Katie recently, what do you do and who do you help? ‘I create memories and memorable experiences. For my customers, my purpose is simple create more fun and laughter. I give parents some relief, kids some fun and maybe as important as anything else I do, I give young people the opportunity to have a positive first work... experience. Clearly, Katie is an owner with a mission. She told me she’s motivated (by an unbelievably bad first work experience) to help young people gain confidence and real world skills. Katie came to Laserzone Sunshine Coast first as a national level competitive player herself. Then, a friend suggested she contact Laserzone Sunshine Coast for a possible job. I know they hired me because I cared and was willing to do anything and I did, literally working all the roles at the facility, she recalled. Purpose built, the facility had undergone a major renovation last year and was starting to recoup the investment when the Pandemic forced closing in March. As social distancing requirements eased,Laserzone Sunshine Coast was able to re-open mid-last month with strict adherence to social distancing and hygiene requirements. Our customers can have complete confidence that the environment is safe from a health standpoint, while still exciting and adventurous from the gaming angle. Due to Covid 19 capacity restrictions, bookings are essential! The atmosphere is electric from the moment you enter. Pulsating music sets the tone, virtual reality group booths and of course, the level one Laser Tag arena, which Katie gave me a brief travel with my laser vest and phasor. What’s Katie most proud of now, that’s easy she replied, my crew. Typically, kids tart here in year 7 or 8 and stay all the way to uni and I stay in touch with most of them and consider them close friends. So, if you and your friends or fam are looking for an exhilarating diversion, heaps of fun and great value - make Laserzone Sunshine Coast your next stop. If the Laser Tag bug bites you or you’ve already been stung, they’ve got leagues to satisfying your deepest competitive drives. Come say hi to Owner Katie Tealby at Laserzone Sunshine Coast.
