24.01.2022 Since buying The Lodge, much of our time has gone into the physical restoration. We have had many people share with us stories and experiences to do with this place and we would love to learn more about the history of our beloved Lodge. We do have a few books that we are yet to read, but we are hoping some of you out there might be able to help us! If you have any photos, information or avenues we can look into to find out more, we’d sincerely appreciate it! Please email me at [email protected], comment below, inbox me or call the number on this page. Thanks!

24.01.2022 We’ve made many (good and bad) discoveries in this gorgeous little property! Over the past month or so, we’ve found: several layers of different wallpapers, all so fragile that I can barely touch them a servery window that was bricked in with limestone and hidden behind plaster/concrete render voids either side of the fireplace that were cupboards at some stage, then closed off, and even had a little pile of pinecones left in the bottom the slate floor in one of the b...edrooms was covering a timber floor, but unfortunately this timber floor was rotten and was also covering another concrete floor underneath, which was probably contributing heavily to the damp issues in the stone walls a timber lintel that may have been above a doorway and eventually bricked in original timber roof shingles under the iron roof sheets red bricks lining the fireplace that were hidden under tiles I still wonder what this place has in store for us!!

21.01.2022 Yesterday we were gifted something very special. When we bought The Lodge, a friend, who also owned the property for a short time several years before us, caught up with me to congratulate us. She said that after she moved on from the property she saw a clay model of The Lodge at Wilson’s Art Gallery and purchased it as a momento. When she found out that we were the new owners, she wanted to share this special item with us. I couldn’t have been more thrilled with this generous gift. Thanks so much Anne Legoe, we are so grateful!

16.01.2022 So after a summer hiatus, we have been back at work at The Lodge! Even though we were deliberately trying to dry out the damp in the walls in the warmer weather, I think deep down we were also avoiding the back breaking task of digging out the remaining dirt from the underfloor area of the 4 main rooms. It was insane how many wheelbarrow loads of dirt and rock came out of those 4 rooms, but it is now DONE!

14.01.2022 We proudly took over this gem of a property mid August. We have spent many hours getting to know it better and discover the beauty in its historic elements. We look forward to getting this place ready to (hopefully!) rent out for the summer holidays. These photos were what helped us fall further in love with this place. 11.01.2022 Well, things have been pretty quiet down at The Lodge over the last couple of months. We’ve taken advantage of the warmer weather (and expected Robe breezes!) to start the drying process of the damp within the stone walls. We’re very pleased to find that the moisture levels seem to have dropped and that hopefully soon we can begin some further works. Today we were blessed to be given a lovely gift of a print of our Lodge. It appears to be created by someone by the name of Grummett in 1985, but any further info on this artist is welcomed. Thanks so much Kell Tobin for your kind gift.

11.01.2022 Did you know The Lodge is nearly 170 years old?! With this many years under its belt, there were always bound to be some issues associated with ageing (I’m only 39 and I’m feeling some age issues too!). One of the first things we tackled was the damp wall paneling. After taking some of this off, we discovered, completely by accident, the amazing stone walls that had been hidden behind render and wall panels. Since this day, we’ve been busy chipping off all the render from these stone walls to let the walls breathe again...

09.01.2022 I couldn’t fit this video in the last post, but this is the amount of dirt and rock from the diggings! More than 40 stones were used in the western wall restoration, so the pile was even bigger than that a couple of weeks ago.

08.01.2022 It’s time for the western wall to get a bit of TLC! Sand/cement mortar being drilled out ready for some stone replacements and repointing. I’m loving the definition of the stones!

07.01.2022 Preparations are underway to damp course the walls and be ready to install new posts/bearers/joists for the timber floors once the walls are sufficiently dry. Poor Adrian has worked his guts out by digging out dirt and rock to increase the ventilation space under the floors. We still have 2 and a half rooms to go. The amount of leftover stone in the dirt was incredible! You could almost feel the stonemasons there where they would have been working nearly 170 years ago!

01.01.2022 Stage 1 of western wall is complete! Backfilling and stone replacement done ready for point work.
