21.01.2022 The endless parts of the lotus to eat- lotus pollen.
18.01.2022 Bees adore lotus nectar. Saw on the news beekeepers are struggling to keep beehives alive through this drought that looks like stretching into spring and longer. The eucalyptus flowers have failed so bees are being feed sugar water. Another reason to plant lotus for the bees.
12.01.2022 Lovely rain today in the Bega Valley I hope it will fill the dams for the farmers and for growing lotus this summer. Meanwhile the lotus is tucked up in its protective mud. The plant will not send out its first leaves until it has warmed up a lot more than the first warm days but still cold nights.
09.01.2022 Photo of lotus leaves on a Dignams creek dam in the Autumn 2018.
02.01.2022 It’s a dry start to the lotus season my lotus are ok in a small pond because I can top up the water. If the lotus are not growing in a spring feed dam most of the dams with Lotus growing around Cobargo on the far south coast are struggling. This photo is of Cobargo butter factory dam where there is still mud but lotus do need water to reach there full height in leaf and flowers.
01.01.2022 One of my favourite Australia artists -Hossein Valamanesh who uses dried lotus leaf in his art. Love that the shirt is made of lotus leaves.
01.01.2022 Lotus growing after the Badja fire on a dam in Wandella. Since the rain the dam has filled and over flowing. Will take more photos of the lotus plant coping with the sudden rise in the water level.
01.01.2022 I have not posted anything in awhile. Thank you for new people who have liked this page. As it’s winter it’s quiet in the mud of the lotus ponds. I hope anyone new to this page might find it interesting to look back to old posts to read information about growing and eating the lotus plant. As it gets closer to spring I will post more information on getting lotus plants to grow in your own garden.
