14.01.2022 MINDFULNESS THROUGH SMELL If you've been to one of my classes, you would be very familiar with my use of the 5 senses to reach mindfulness while in yoga asanas. I really don't think there's much point in creating a yoga practice that doesn't involve the mind as much as the body. Taking it off the mat, spring is the PERFECT time to take a walk around the block and engage the sense of smell. Open those nostrils up and inhale! (Apologies to the hayfever suffers out there). During my walks, I make sure to take the route that leads me to a beautiful cascade of star jasmine. I stop and stand there for a few breaths. It's the most delightful moment! I'm completely in the present moment.

08.01.2022 BREASTFEEDING & MEDITATION Hey breastfeeding mamas. What do you ponder about when your little squish is having a feed? Have you ever thought about using this time to meditate? Yes, I know it's not always possible to be in a Zen mode when breastfeeding; toddler wanting to grab hold of the other boob, bub turning around to see what that noise was (whilst dragging nipple along)...in my experience, now with bub no. 2 I have found some quiet breastfeeding moments when I can close... my eyes and take a few deeper breaths. I'm not talking about the formal lotus sitting pose meditating. All I do is count the breath: 4 counts in and 6 counts out. For however long is possible. Any number combination will do, just as long as the out breath is longer by a couple counts. I hope you try it and let me know how you feel. I guarantee a calmer, more centred you! See more
06.01.2022 My home is normally filled with mess. Toys, dirty dishes...it's taken me a while to accept the mess as I like things to be in order. I still keep a few nice things within the chaotic mess that I love looking at, like this red rose coupled with some chalky blue candlesticks. I often find myself experiencing a #pocketofslow by simply and quickly glancing at these beautiful objects. Simple thing. Simple act. It works for me in many ways. #sight #mindfulness

05.01.2022 Admittedly, I don't have a consistent formal meditation practice. I used to and it was glorious. Now I have kids that wake me up consistently at 5.30am BUT what I have managed to cultivate are POCKETS OF SLOW. I think everyone can do this, no matter how time poor. So I'm going to try to inspire at least one person to start finding their own pockets of slow: Moments during the day when you stop and use one or two of your 5 senses to witness something happening right now. I'm going to #pocketofslow some of my moments of slow over the next two weeks and invite you to do the same. Why? Because why exist if you're not present...at least sometimes? Because constantly living in the realm of the past or the future is not real life and will make you sick. Because life is a beautiful thing to witness.
