14.01.2022 It's National Recycling Week and here is a short, simple video to help you identify packaging recycling symbols. The more we understand what products can and can't be recycled the quicker we move towards creating a more sustainable future. #planetark #nationalrecyclingweek #australasianrecyclinglabel

12.01.2022 A very sad day for us today as we close our doors. Unfortunately after many years we no longer have a metal recycler who can accept our mattress springs in their format, so we are now unable to process mattresses for recycling. We appreciate the efforts of many who have been working with us in recent weeks to find a solution for this issue. Annually we collect approximately 20,000 mattresses from transfer stations, bedding shops, hospitals, prisons, universities, ski resorts ...and more, travelling all throughout greater western Victoria. That is a lot of tonnes of waste diverted from landfill every year! These mattresses are stripped manually allowing a majority of their components to be separated for recycling including springs, foam and timber. We also employ local people, many of who find it difficult to obtain work, and give them a foot in the door to consistent employment. We thank them for their hard work. We would also like to thank our customers for their ongoing support and for playing their part in preventing reusable materials from going in to landfill. Our biggest hope now is that the recycling industry works towards finding better solutions to ensure that all materials can be recycled effectively and viably, and hopefully there is still room for passionate small, local business to continue in the recycling industry. #recyclingvictoria #PlanetArk #wastemanagementvictoria #sustainabilityvictoria #bswwrrg #vwma #cityofgreatergeelong #

09.01.2022 Well, we are very happy to leave 2020 behind but also very excited to welcome 2021 and announce that we are able to reopen our doors. In the last few weeks we have been fortunate to have a company reach out who will be able to accept our mattress springs for recycling on a long-term basis. We are very appreciative to be able to continue operations and see it as a little win for small business. We are also very grateful for our clients who have welcomed us back on board and will continue with our service. So today the phone is switched back on and we are ready to go, we look forward to employing locals and servicing our wonderful community again.

04.01.2022 RECYCLING CHECK: Do you know paper cartons for milk, juice and other liquids can no longer go in your yellow lid bin? Along with coffee cups, these carton...s have plastic or wax coatings that are difficult to remove, and are not viable for recycling in Australia. Choosing recyclable packaging like cans, glass or plastic bottles - when you shop can make a big difference. See a full list of changes and download a printable poster here: http://ow.ly/cC3w50y9Kwu
