15.01.2022 Excited to be announcing Beginner's Mindfulness Group Classes starting this Friday at 9:30-10:30am The McKenzie Clinic - Physiotherapy & Exercise Physiology with our Masters of Counselling Student Julie Bolton!

10.01.2022 Today's breast cancer Thrivership gym class was 50% social chatter and 50% working out. Okay, so maybe it was more like 75% chatting and 25% exercising. Al...right then, so admittedly it was probably closer to 90% gas-bagging and 10% working out but those exercises we did in between chatting were definitely hard core. I'm pictured here taking a breather today with Jo, Dee and our wonderfully supportive and patient Personal Trainer, Nina. The reason we love these classes at The McKenzie Clinic - Physiotherapy & Exercise Physiology, catering specifically for breast cancer survivors, is because the participants share a common experience in being diagnosed and treated for breast cancer. We understand each other and know how the others are feeling and what they're experiencing physically and psychologically. Some have had one or more breasts removed, some have been through chemotherapy, some have had radiation, some have had lymphoedema and some are repeat BC customers who've had it more than once in their lifetime (not mentioning any names...*Dee*). Some, like me, wear a breast prosthesis and some are flat and fabulous. During the class we might find ourselves adjusting the position of our boobs (real and prosthetic) and nobody bats an eyelid. When I was a bald woman going through chemotherapy, nobody gave a shit that I stuck out like a sore thumb and had sweat dripping down the sides of my shiny bald head. This made the post-mastectomy exercise journey so much easier and less intimidating for me. ALL of the women I've met and worked out/chatted with in the Thrivership gym classes are remarkable in their own way. ALL of them have been frightened, angry, confused, dumbfounded or downright fucked off that breast cancer has affected their future plans. ALL of these women have been poked, prodded, sliced, diced, jabbed, injected, radiated, disfigured and scarred in some way, shape or form. ALL of these women have helped me in one way or another, some without even knowing it. For that reason, I am a grateful uniboober. #TheUniboober #TheMcKenzieClinic #ThisIsHowWeSurviveCancer
