These six Melt Industrial Experience Program students have been working on commercialisation engineering for their project sponsors. Viv Jayachandran and Scott Olero presented their cloud based control and sensor area network solution for startup Orata's therm...al conditioning, Nicholas Buckton and Ryan Pierce presented the challenges of IoT (internet of things) systems integration and cyber security with a physical demonstration of an IoT smart padlock with integrated blockchain technology for public secure access. Liam Howell explained the technical challenges and engineering implications for product development in compliance with Australian standards and construction codes. Liam also used advanced mathematical models and simulations to illustrate advanced control and machine learning techniques for efficient environmental (HVAC) controls. In this phase The Melt will first seek to validate the business model and understand the technical risks of the project. A comprehensive business case for further investment is developed. Prototype Stage: Your product idea is already validated and is now ready for a looks like/works like prototype to be developed Pilot Stage: You have a prototype that is now ready to be piloted with real customers to gain valuable insights and prepare for manufacturing at scale. Produce stage: The product is ready for large scale, low cost manufacture and distribution. Since launching Safe Gauge a few months ago in June 2020, Luke has tested his product extensively, received dozens of orders from both national and international customers, hired his first fulltime employee and taken up a permanent workspace at Dashworks Makespace - an impressive journey thus far!
