16.01.2022 THE OLDEST DOG IN THE WORLD DIES TODAY AT 30 YEARS OLD. "Maggie the Kelpie, an Australian dog that was possibly the oldest canine in the world, has died. Own...er Brian McLaren, a dairy farmer in Woolsthorp, Victoria, confirmed the news to The Weekly Times. 'She was 30 years old, she was still going along nicely last week, she was walking from the dairy to the office and growling at the cats and all that sort of thing,' he told the newspaper, adding that the dog has started deteriorating two days previously. At the age of 30, Maggie was over 200 in human years, and a contender for the oldest dog in the world, but Mr McLaren had lost the original paperwork for the dog, meaning that her age could not be independently verified. Officially, the title of the oldest dog in the world still belongs to Bluey, an Australian cattle-dog from Rochester in Victoria, which reached 29 years and five months. According to the Guinness Book of Records his owner bought him as a puppy in 1910 and he grew up to work among the sheep and cattle until he was put down in November 1939." - The Independent "This is where we need to set the bar for all of our pets, 30 years of age not today's average mortality rate of 11." - Rodney Habib

09.01.2022 POSTCARD FROM HOME! Hi! I'm Biggie (short for Big Beautiful Lady). For awhile, my future was looking pretty uncertain. I'd been bounced around between homes, a... pound and a farm, and after being a mummy, I knew I perhaps didn't look as appealing as some of my doggy brothers and sisters. And I heard a rumour that people in Sydney didn't want big dogs because they thought we were more bother? Thank goodness Maggie's came to the rescue. I was a foster fail in mid 2015. My family fell in love with my affectionate and peaceful ways, and my obedience. They also admired the way I didn't let my size interfere with my duties as a lapdog! I made fast friends with their very short and funny looking dog Farnsworth, and found I really liked having a buddy. I also LOVED becoming an inside dog and sleeping in my mum and dad's room, after spending my entire life outside in a kennel, and have impressed mum and dad by never peeing inside once. These days, you can find me sitting on the couch, sitting on laps, and chilling at Henson Park with my doggy friends. Please don't overlook big dogs like me, as we are so easy to care for and are often really laid back types who just want to be near you. Big dogs have amazing hearts and amazing personalities!
