25.01.2022 Gardens are part of our everyday landscape. They surround our homes and are through our communities and can be overlooked for the incredible impact they can have on our lives. I believe gardens can have the capacity to nurture and aid in restoring our health and well being. As gardeners we can connect with and nurture the soil, plants and spaces in our garden and in return the garden nurtures us. Gardens can be have many purposes; as an extension of a home, a reflection of one's personality, a place of relaxation or a hive of activity.

24.01.2022 My experiences with gardening have changed over the past 25 years, with the initial focus being turning a blank canvas of earth into a lush vibrant space or turning chaos into order. I was always totally absorbed by what I was doing. Over time, I began to realise why it would always draw me in - gardening had enabled me to engage fully in the present moment while connecting with the earth, the plants and the wildlife of my gardens. I became a mindful gardener.

To practice mindfulness. 'Every one of us already has the seed of mindfulness. The practice is to cultivate it.' Thich Nhat Hanh

20.01.2022 A Great Find - GroNATIVE App I came across the GroNATIVE app on an episode of Gardening Australia. The app provides an 'east-to-use tool for raising awareness and conservation of native plants, their versatility and applicability to garden settings, and replenishing native biodiversity in areas where it has been lost.' The app focuses on native plants of South East Queensland. You can:... Find plants that are native to your geographic area. Find native plants that fit your desired garden style. Find native plants that have particular qualities or characteristics. GroNATIVE is a 'useful resource for your garden endeavours' and that can help you learn 'how native plants can transform your personal space into a haven for your family and local wildlife alike.' The GroNATIVE app has been developed by Griffiths University.
