01.01.2022 How well do you know your Oodle? Designer dogs have become increasingly popular over the past decade with many families choosing to steer away from the 'standard pure breeds' and purchasing their crossbred counterparts. The Oodle has become a family favourite such as the following:... Groodle (Golden Retriever Poodle cross) Spoodle (English Cocker Spaniel Poodle cross) Cavoodle (Cavalier king Charles Poodle cross) Moodle (Maltese Poodle cross) Schnoodle (Schnauzer Poodle cross) Labradoodle (Labrador Poodle cross) Pomapoo (Pomeranian Poodle cross) Shihpoo (Shi Tzu Poodle cross) There are a number of benefits of choosing a designer breed such as the Oodle: 1 An Oodle sheds less hair which means less cleaning and reduced allergies (while the hair itself does not cause allergies, dander shed along with the hair might). 2 It is believed that an Oodle inherits the 'best' genetics from each of their purebred parents, making them healthier dogs with a reduced likelihood of developing many of the breed specific diseases we have come to know. 3 With a reduction in the likelihood of developing disease comes an increase in life span, giving us more years with our beloved furry friends. 4 Finally, they are just so darn cute! While there can be no doubt that there are numerous benefits to owning an Oodle, there are a few things that should be kept in mind: 1 There are no guarantees that your Oodle has only inherited the 'best' qualities from it parents and at times they may still shed hair or develop disease. 2 They can be costly little critters. To own one of these designer darlings you will need to save your pennies with some breeds exceeding $3000 per pup. 3 Finally, do not forget that regular health checks with your veterinarian, a good quality diet and plenty of exercise will keep your Oodle happy and healthy. Watch this space as in the next few days we will invite you to share you Oodle photos. The next breed group we will be focused on will be the terrible Terriers
