25.01.2022 In a major boost for tourism, and as a result of the Ned Kelly Alive Study, Glenrowan is to receive $4 million to enable a major upgrade to amenities and surrounding areas. Excitingly it will enable the development of a viewing tower and siege site experience. Full details are yet to be released, but this confirms huge interest in the Kelly story, and coupled with the announcement earlier this week of $1million for the Beechworth courthouse this is an enormous achievement ...for the North East. Glenrowan is about to get the injection of funds it needs to develop a world class and up to date experience. One that will benefit the town and the region. We are excited for them, and cant wait to see what happens next. Congratulations to everybody who worked on the submission.

24.01.2022 This striking colourised image of Ned Kelly is courtesy of 'My Colourful Past'. The textures in this image are quite incredible - it certainly doesn't look like a 140 year old photograph - you'd think it was taken yesterday! https://www.facebook.com/166285630402846/posts/1075401552824578/

24.01.2022 Please note - the buildings in the Precinct (including the Vault) will remain closed until further notice.

22.01.2022 Did you miss 'Rock n Roll Outlaw'? Well, You Can't Always Get What You Want. Unfortunately, It's All Over Now and you're Out Of Time. Here are some highlights....

22.01.2022 It's fantastic to see this short film once again. We saw it years ago and thought it may have been lost. Peter Drummond was a lovely fellow, and very passionate about the preservation of the former Royal Mail Hotel. We last saw him in the last months of his life, when the magnificent old building was being considered as a venue for what eventually became the Ned Kelly Vault.... Its great to see some old Avenel identities in the film, including a son of Richard Shelton - the boy Ned Kelly saved from drowning.

21.01.2022 DIY face mask. It had to happen, right? Thanks to Anthony Dodd for bringing this to our attention. Courtesy of The Age.

21.01.2022 It was twenty years ago today..... A worldwide audience of two billion people watched the opening ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Did you know the Ned Kelly Vault proudly holds one of the original Ned Kelly costumes from that historic event?

19.01.2022 Congratulations to Aidan Phelan, friend of the Ned Kelly Vault, on becoming a published Kelly author. He joins a select group of writers who have contributed to this riveting yarn over the last 140 years. Well done, Aidan!

19.01.2022 Hmmmm.....we wonder what the Facebook page, 'Such Is Life: The Ned Kelly Story', will say about the 'extremely compelling' photograph on exclusive display here at the Ned Kelly Vault? Is it Ned? Is Dan there too?

12.01.2022 It's official - sadly, no Beechworth Celtic Weekend this year.

10.01.2022 Here's your chance to grab a copy of Ash Davies' brilliant 2001 album, 'Ned Kelly', as well as some of his other releases including the absolutely stunning 'Burke and Wills' - at an obscene price!

09.01.2022 Unfortunately the Ned Kelly Vault will remain closed over this Glenrowan 140th anniversary weekend. Our plans to mark the anniversary were cancelled due to COVID-19. Sadly, our substantial treasures from the Glenrowan siege will be behind locked doors this year. We apologise for any inconvenience.... Wed like to share this image of the Glenrowan schoolteacher, Thomas Curnow. Talk of heroes can get a bit tedious at times, but this fellow was the real deal. Mr Curnows immense bravery in stopping the Beechworth-bound police special train from crashing at Glenrowan saved many lives - and created arguably the most tantalising what if'? in Australian history. If you are in our region this weekend, we wish you safe travels. Hopefully youll be like us and be close to a nice warm fire with friends, somewhere in the ranges. NKV.

08.01.2022 Please note the Ned Kelly Vault remains closed until further notice.

08.01.2022 The Ned Kelly Vault is currently CLOSED to the public. Wed like to take this opportunity to again extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you who support us in what we do. We apologise for any inconvenience but we look forward to welcoming you into our magnificent region again a little further down the track. Please stay safe and remember to look out for one another during these challenging times.... NKV.

07.01.2022 It's great to see restoration works continuing at the old Kelly house at Beveridge - the only Kelly home still standing (if only just). The main section of the cottage (including the massive bluestone chimney) was built by Ned's father, John 'Red' Kelly in 1859. Photographs courtesy of Jonathon Park.

07.01.2022 Sounds interesting...

07.01.2022 The Ned Kelly Vault is proud to support Aidan Phelan's debut book, 'Glenrowan'. 'Dripping with authentic historical detail, richly-developed characters and beautiful storytelling, it is a MUST HAVE for those who love Australian stories. It even features fantastic original images by the author'. The book will be printed here in Australia - an added bonus... 06.01.2022 Beechworth 22/4/2020.

06.01.2022 Ned was a regular visitor to James Ingram's bookshop and newsagent on Camp Street - the building survives to this day. Mr. Ingram was a giant of Beechworth - known as Beechworth's 'grand old man'. During a lifetime of service to his community, he was a founder of the Ovens and District Hospital, the Benovolent Asylum, and he was also secretary of the Beechworth Cemetery Trust. He died in 1928, just six weeks short of his 100th birthday.... In 1911, Mr. Ingram was interviewed by Sydney journalist Brian Cookson. He left this fascinating personal insight into Ned Kelly.

04.01.2022 Ned Kelly's death mask is a significant object from the collection of the Burke Museum on display at Beechworths The Ned Kelly Vault. A death mask is a wax or... plaster cast made of a persons face after their death. Death masks were often created after people were executed, as the now discredited science of phrenology claimed to be able to predict criminality by examining measurements of the skull. Multiple copies of Ned Kellys death mask were made by waxworks proprietor, Maximilian Kreitmayer. Kellys mask is remarkable as it shows a surprisingly placid expression. Here Ignition Immersive are 3D scanning the mask using photogrammetry. You will soon be able to explore this significant object from all angles at home.

03.01.2022 The bush telegraph is buzzing with MORE major news from Kelly Country. First the news of a major funding boost to Beechworth, and now this.... Details to follow soon.

01.01.2022 Something to look forward to. Stay tuned!
