15.01.2022 Edit: Keep up the great work! With your help we’ve been able to share this message with more than 9,700 people. We need this message to reach every corner of th...is great state and country! Earlier today we received a media release from our National Beekeeping Industry Body, Australian Honey Bee Industry Council (AHBIC). Please see a copy of the release below. Access to floral resource is security for the beekeeping industry in Queensland. Continued access to floral resource is key to the survival and health of the beekeeping industry in Queensland. The honey bee industry in Queensland injects over $2.4 Billion dollars to the Queensland economy each year by way of honey production and pollination services. Continued access to floral resource is a critical link to healthy food production in Queensland. The Queensland Beekeepers' Association continues to represent the industry seeking changes to the legislation. Healthy Bees need Healthy Trees to produce Healthy Food. Healthy food = Healthy People. #Healthybeesneedhealthytrees Thanks to Beekeeper Clinton Ruge for the great images.
10.01.2022 We’ve had over 76 shares already and 7,700 people have seen this post! Let’s see if we can surpass our last post stats! Thanks for the love Queensland! Us...eful fact # 2 In our last post we briefly covered information on the final stage of work the bees complete before the honey is capped, effectively preserving it for later consumption. This final process is often referred to as ‘ripening’ or ‘curing’. This process is completed by the ‘field bees’ or ‘foragers’ once they have returned to the hive full of nectar and carrying pollen. Upon returning to the hive the foraging bees transfer the nectar to the worker bees who then start the process of fanning the honey which in turn removes excess moisture from honey . This results in the honey dropping from 30% moisture/water down to 18%. The bees then cap the honey with a layer or wax effectively sealing the honey off preventing it from spoiling. Ideally most Beekeepers would prefer to see the moisture saturation drop to a level around 14% prior to harvesting or ‘lifting’ the excess honey from the hives. This is turn provides a syrupy or thicker consistency to the honey. So the honey is capped then ready for extraction, then why is it sometimes varieties of honey are more ‘runny’ than other varieties. Stay tuned for our useful bee facts # 3! In the meantime, please support the Queensland Beekeepers’ Association and our efforts to ensure our honeybee industry has secured continued access to native forests which in return provides strong healthy bees to for fulfil the pollination requirements of the growing horticultural industry in Queensland! Please like and continue to share our page and our posts!
