18.01.2022 What dreams do you have for your future self? Sitting in meditation for just a few minutes a day with a clear intention for your practice can be truely nourishing for your entire being. Inside and out. Aim to come up with a clear statement that sums up what YOUR HEARTS deepest desire is. Then repeat it silently to yourself 3 times, with meaning. Keep your statement short and in the present tense, similar to a mantra or affirmation. An example could be something like 'I am rel...axed, calm and at ease' or 'I am living my life with enthusiasm.' Ponder for a moment on what your life would be like if this deepest desire of yours was a reality. Then let it go, and anchor your attention as best you can on your natural breath for a few minutes. When you reach the end of your meditation time, repeat the same statement silently, in your mind, 3 times. You're on you're way. It's already started... #universalwisdom #meditation #dontholdback #lovelife See more
18.01.2022 Make like a curious little toddler this Monday, and see everything in your world with a set of fresh eyes. This is essentially what is referred to as 'beginners mind' in the Zen tradition. Although this may sound easy and possibly even tedious to some, REMEMBERING to pull the mind out of 'auto-pilot mode' can be tricky at first. But I implore you: take in the details. This is where all the magic in life is #bemindful #thenurturedmind #goodvibes #meditate #followyourbliss #zen #meditationmelbourne #mindfulness #lovelife #behappy #mondaymotivation
17.01.2022 Cold & chilly on the outside? Why not go INSIDE?! Meditation practice affords you the perfect opportunity to wrap yourself up in something snug, and just chill. Legitimately.. For 20 whole minutes. #winning
16.01.2022 Its such a blessing being able to practice this 'letting go' thing... Every. Single. day. Thank you my children! #letgo #thenurturedmind
16.01.2022 #friyay The weekend is nearly here! If you don't have much planned, (and especially if you do!) why not take a little time out, and spoil yourself with a deep soak in the bathtub If you like, try adding 1 cup of Epsom salts + 1 cup of baking soda and 10 drops of lavender oil in while the bath fills with warm water. Avoid having the water temperature too high. The aim is to relax, not to whole poach yourself! The combo of these 3 ingredients helps to lower stress-related hormones, draw out impurities and balance out pH levels. 20 minutes and you'll be feeling more comfortable. I promise #protip

14.01.2022 When a client desperately asks how meditation practice can possibly make their seemingly helpless, current life situation better ... Autobiography In Five Short Chapters Chapter I... I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost... I am hopeless. It isn't my fault. It takes forever to find a way out. Chapter II I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don't see it. I fall in again. I can't believe I am in this same place. But it isn't my fault. It still takes a long time to get out. Chapter III I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it there. I still fall in... it's a habit... but, my eyes are open. I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately. Chapter IV I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it. Chapter V I walk down another street. - Portia Nelson
14.01.2022 On average, a person at rest will take 23,040 breaths a day.. So how many do you remember taking so far today? It might sound trivial, but a simple yet profound way to meditate is to take a moment to breathe in, AND REALLY KNOW that you are breathing in. Notice how the body moves to accommodate your inhalation, the quality of the air itself, and that subtle moment when the inhalation turns into an exhalation. Step closer to that mysterious moment when the body is neither brea...thing in or out. Then breathe out, and again, KNOW THAT YOU ARE BREATHING OUT. Pay attention to how the body lets go, and leans back in on itself as the breath leaves. Follow your exhalation all the way to its natural end. Perhaps notice the gentle urge to breathe in bubbling up inside you for a split second before you effortlessly do. There's no need to change how you're breathing to do this exercise. Chances are you've been breathing just fine up until now! Just watch how your body breathes in and out. No effort. No strain. #mindfulness #meditation #mindfulliving #thenurturedmind See more

10.01.2022 She Let Go She let go. Without a thought or a word, she let go. She let go of the fear. She let go of the judgments. She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head. She let go of the committee of indecision within her. She let go of all the right reasons. Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she just let go.... She didnt ask anyone for advice. She didnt read a book on how to let go. She didnt search the scriptures. She just let go. She let go of all of the memories that held her back. She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward. She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right. She didnt promise to let go. She didnt journal about it. She didnt write the projected date in her Day-Timer. She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper. She didnt check the weather report or read her daily horoscope. She just let go. She didnt analyze whether she should let go. She didnt call her friends to discuss the matter. She didnt do a five-step Spiritual Mind Treatment. She didnt call the prayer line. She didnt utter one word. She just let go. No one was around when it happened. There was no applause or congratulations. No one thanked her or praised her. No one noticed a thing. Like a leaf falling from a tree, she just let go. There was no effort. There was no struggle. It wasnt good and it wasnt bad. It was what it was, and it is just that. In the space of letting go, she let it all be. A small smile came over her face. A light breeze blew through her. And the sun and the moon shone forevermore. ~ Safire Rose

09.01.2022 A medical journal review has found that just 30 minutes daily meditation can improve the symptoms of depression, anxiety and pain significantly. I am so impressed with the clear thought and attention to detail that has gone into designing the Chi Meditation Seat (as seen here with the stunning @rachael_finch perched on top) AND beyond excited about having this little cradle of love available for our students to try out whilst getting their Zen on in the sanctuary! #bestill #behappy #beyou
09.01.2022 A simple meditation: sit or lay comfortably somewhere you won't be disturbed for a few mindful moments. Bring your attention to your breathing. Notice your brea...th without interfering or changing it in any way. Simply watch. Sense the air and any aroma or fragrance touching the inside of your nostrils as you inhale. Feel the gentle warm air in the nostrils as you exhale. Become completely immersed in your breathing and continue to breath like this for a few moments. Now, tune into your exhalation. As you breath out, feel how the body seems to sink a little, becoming seemingly heavier. Next time you breath out imagine your body is made entirely of water, and as you exhale this body of water begins to spread out across the surface you are sitting or lying on. Keep this mental imagery in mind as you continue to focus on your exhalation for a few more minutes. Take in how the body feels. Take in how the breath is moving. Take in your state of mind. Whenever it feels good and natural for you, open your eyes slowly. #namaste #thenurturedmind See more
07.01.2022 Yeah sure, but while I'm "unplugging" whos going to put food on the table, write that report, update my status, publish that post, screen my calls, check my emails, study for the stats exam, change the baby, watch endless episodes of House of Cards, cook dinner, feed the dog, walk the dog, train for the half-marathon (with the dog), sweep, vacuum, mop, do the dishes, do the laundry, solve the missing sock mystery and just generally hold the fort in the rare event that, you... know, The Apocalypse happens? Breathe. Greater awareness achieved through consistent meditation practice will change your perception towards your thoughts, feelings and your life. How? Well, having a clear understanding of what is actually happening, in real time and in the real world (your immediate world) will allow you to create your most truly desired outcomes. This isnt woo woo hippy stuff either people! Several peer reviewed articles published in reputable journals have shown that higher states of awareness are a result of several pathways in the brain working together optimally, especially pathways within a section of the brain called the prefrontal cortex. Neuroscientists have demonstrated that ones prefrontal cortex is indeed more active during a meditative state. But why should any of this encourage you to ditch fretting about the end of the world and simply start meditating instead? Because the prefrontal cortex is largely responsible for will power, self-control, planning, complex behaviors, personal expression, judgments and flexible social behavior. Basically, when the functionality of the prefrontal cortex is enhanced, it gives you the ability; the INSIGHT required when making distinctions between random thoughts. When gently and consistently ushered away from the virtual reality tour of 'what ifs' and 'but hows' the mind is able to put hopes for the future into perspective. It will bounce back from setbacks quickly, and it will hold back urges that do not serve you well. From this vantage point, your mind can get on with the task of getting you closer to whatever it is that your deepest heartfelt desire is. Simples! See more
05.01.2022 No, you don't need to sit in lotus, half-lotus or even cross legged. Just be comfortable. You don't need to chant 'Om' to the universe for hours. Just listen to the sounds around you for a minute. You don't need to make it into a stillness competition (between you and yourself). If you have an itch, then by all means, scratch it. You don't even have to close your eyes if you don't want to! There are many misconceptions about meditation practice. Some leave people feeling like... if they don't subscribe to all of the "correct' protocols and rituals; if their minds don't do blank; if a "beam of white light" doesn't spontaneously appear behind their closed eyes during practice; or if they momentarily loose concentration, and start thinking about what they'll be eating for dinner ... Well, they must be doing something wrong. This isn't the case at all. Your mind thinks. Just like your ears hear, and your eyes see. Your mind thinks. What really matters is how you interpret the thoughts. #thenurturedmind See more

01.01.2022 Oh Melbourne! I love you rain, hail or shine (because lets face it, there's really no choice) but tonight I can't help reminiscing about the warmer moments we've shared. When meditating outdoors under massive Moreton Bay Fig trees with candles hanging all around us in #fitzroygardens was just how we rolled at #thenurturedmind. It was truly amazing how many people stopped to photograph our blissful posse..
