20.01.2022 On this day last year NSW recorded 17 concurrent Emergency Warnings. Communities in the Blue Mountains, Clarence Valley, Richmond Valley, Walcha, Armidale, Namb...ucca, Kempsey, Tenterfield, and the Mid Coast were all being impacted by fire. At 6pm 94 fires were burning across the state. While the losses on that day were significant they could have been far worse were it not for the extraordinary efforts of firefighters and community members. See more

13.01.2022 Our Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook: December 2020 February 2021 is out today, and shows that large parts of NSW west of the Great Dividing Range face ab...ove normal fire conditions, as well as grassland areas of the ACT and into north eastern Victoria. Grass and crop fires are the main concern in these locations for the summer months as the growth dries out in the warmer weather. WA has largely missed out on the rainfall in 2020 and conditions are very dry, with parts of the south and south west coasts expecting above normal fire conditions through summer. 06.01.2022 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST Severe Thunderstorm Warning for HEAVY RAINFALL, LARGE HAILSTONES and DAMAGING W...INDS For people in Metropolitan, Illawarra, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Australian Capital Territory and parts of South Coast, Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains and Snowy Mountains Forecast Districts. Issued at 9:05 am Saturday, 31 October 2020. Plan Image Weather Situation: Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, large hailstones and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Batemans Bay, Orange, Canberra and Goulburn. Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Hunter district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED. 38.8 mm was observed at WOLLONGONG AWS in the 30 minutes to 9:05 am. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 12:05 pm. If severe thunderstorms develop in Sydney Newcastle Wollongong or surrounding areas or Canberra and Queanbeyan, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in these areas.
