08.01.2022 Patty regrets to announce that The Painted Door Art Café has now closed. Huge thanks to all our wonderful customers and suppliers for your support and patronage over the years. When I first opened the doors in 2006 I had no idea that I would still be here in 2017! Having well and truly passed my best before date (retirement age) I will discard the apron, close down the computer and learn the art of relaxation. I would like to give huge thanks to all the great people who h...ave made up the team both past and present, chefs and juniors who made the café the success that it became. Most recently, Vicki and Karen both you and your delicious treats will be missed, not only by the customers but also by me. It has been hard work but lots of fun and laughter as well. When we first opened in 2006 Derby was a very different place, there was a well provisioned General Store run by Chris & the late Peter Oliver where videos (remember them?) could be hired and they also sold fuel and early morning coffee and takeaways for drivers. Across the road the Federal Hotel ran regular eight ball and darts competitions and hosted football dinners. Further down the main road Berries Café run by Richard, was a popular stop for tourists and locals. Across the road in the old school house Helen & Revel Munro ran the Tin Mine Centre a big café, museum and the very popular Shanty Town. The Post Office as a busy meeting point for locals and there were two gift shops and a gallery. The Town Hall was used for ballet classes, run by Cheryl Reagen, weekly badminton and bowls, it also hosted an annual Art Exhibition, as well as dinners, shows and an annual dance extravaganza. I am not yet sure who or what will replace us in this space but it is time to move on and make way for the ever changing Derby and the energised mountain bike culture. Best wishes! My thanks again and farewell. More history and photos to follow later.
