20.01.2022 A prospectus completed for the Hume region in Victoria. I actually love these kind of jobs, it adds diversity to my services. For example my day today goes like this... designed stationery set for an electrical company... finalised this govt prospectus finishing a logo for a wellness company design a poster for a PT finish some signage for a blinds company then onto editing a photography job ordering uniforms and merch for a client (Plus quoting and I’m sure there is more haha!) It keeps it interesting, because I’m never working on the same thing! Maybe that is why I never get bored of my work. 17.01.2022 If you’ve worked with me before you’ll know it can be sometimes near impossible for me to get out for meetings. How depressing is that?! The reason being, deadlines and workload. But when I do break the desk shackles it’s always so much fun!! I had a great catch up with Bec and Steve from @lightingales_wa today. It was amazing seeing their beautiful space come to life.. or should I say light?! 13.01.2022 OXI Day Assembly 2020! Along with Greece and the Greek Communities around the world, we recently celebrated October 28, the day that our small country decided ...to be David and take on Goliath. The day when Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas, rejected an ultimatum given by the Italians during World War II. Metaxas, representing the whole Greek Nation, stood his ground and refused to let the Axis Powers enter Greece without a fight. For our OXI Day student presentation this year, we journeyed through the days of 1940-1944, sharing some moments with the audience that gave a taste of what the war brought to Thessaloniki and its people. This was our first big whole school assembly that we have been able to put on since the start of year, and despite a change of venue from our beautiful Amphitheatre to the gymnasium due to weather, our Greek Cultural Coordinator Mrs Reklitis must be congratulated on all her hard work organising and preparing for the morning. A big congratulations to all of our student speakers, who spoke clearly and eloquently in both Greek and English, as well as our Junior Greek dancers and Year 8 singers who all performed delightfully. A special mention and thank you must go to two special students, Jovana, for singing, and Stavros, for dancing, both of which were done beautifully and independently on the day. Thank you as well to all of our special guests, parents and friends who joined us in celebrating this important day. 12.01.2022 DESIGN FOR THE PEOPLE.. people! If you’re engaging a Graphic Designer for your business, it’s SO IMPORTANT to understand the market that you want to communicate to. If your designer doesn’t have that info then it is a big fat stab in the dark. Each market (#demographic) has different needs, likes, boundaries and so on. So when considering design.. first consider its audience. As I always say ‘effective design is considered’. ... You can identify your market by: gender age location interests dislikes And so on! Design should not necessarily be your own taste but the taste of the customer who is visually consuming your brand. (Of course there is exceptions for personal brands or influencers, in that case it needs to definitely reflect your style.) You can get the most bang for your buck out of your design and marketing when you know who you are targeting. 11.01.2022 Boo!! What is Scope creep? Sounds ominous doesn’t it? Put simply, it’s when a project becomes way larger than you quoted or expected, it creeps up on you and before you know it, bam.... you’re banging your head on your desk when you realise you are hours over your estimated time. In the design industry it happens when there are multiple changes or revisions that take a lot more time than what you have quoted for. So why does it happen? Well.. Unfortunately a majority of... people don’t place a huge value on services. Most of the time it’s not intentional at all. Why? Because when you don’t receive a tangible product that you can feel and touch, it’s really hard to measure the worth. The services industry is basically someone’s time and knowledge, and essentially you pay more for someone's experience. So when it comes down to revisions and changes it needs to be made clear that time = money. So here are some simple steps to prevent scope creep. Like I always say, prevention is the best way!! Before you quote, ask for brief. If the client can’t give you full details at that stage, that’s ok, you don’t want to scare them away. You can quote with what information you have, but explain that this is an estimate/ballpark and once you have more details you can give more of a firm quote. When you submit a quote, explain that it comes with X many revisions and in the case of ‘change of scope’ the job will need to be re-priced. This sets clear boundaries and it also shows you are a professional who knows their shiz-nit. Lastly - be firm. If you find that you are going above and beyond what you quoted and you are feeling uncomfortable, put your hand up and tell your client. Most of the time they have no idea of how much time these things take, after all, you are the professional, they don’t know how you do your job. They only see the end result. If you are clear from the start, this shouldn’t be a problem and they will come to the party. Peace
