08.01.2022 "Birdie and the Virus" is an easy to read story book for children, to help them understand the Corona Virus, and the changes that have come with that. When a child has been affected by a stressful event, the Birdie stories help them cope by: helping them understand what’s happened, and what might happen next helping them feel safe, sharing a story in a caring relationship with an adult... helping them learn words for ‘big feelings’ like sadness, anger and worry, as well as words for feeling happy, cosy, content and safe reassuring them that it’s okay to express and talk about feelings giving them interesting, enjoyable experiences to work against unpleasant experiences they may have had or still be having You can hear the story and see the pages in this video link. The book has recently been published by Childrens Health Qld, written by their very own Andrea Baldwin. The Birdie series of books tackle a number of disruptive events, and help us to help them make sense of it. https://www.childrens.health.qld.gov.au/covid-19-birdie-vi/
