25.01.2022 Cancer-related fatigue is a distressing, persistent, subjective sense of physical, emotional, and/or cognitive tiredness or exhaustion related to cancer or cancer treatment that is not proportional to recent activity and interferes with usual functioning. (NCCN Guidelines, 2020) 5 ways Cancer Rehab can help address cancer-related fatigue:... SLEEP HYGIENE Good sleep hygiene includes to bed when sleepy and at approximately the same time each night while maintaining a regular rising time each day. A good technique is to get out of bed after 20 minutes if unable to fall asleep, both when first going to bed and when awakening during the night. Avoid long or late afternoon naps and limit the total time spent in bed. Avoid caffeine after noon and establish an environment that is conducive to sleep. NUTRITION Many patients with cancer have changes in nutritional status. Because cancer and treatment can interfere with dietary intake, a nutrition consultation with a dietician may be helpful in managing the nutritional deficiencies that result from anorexia, diarrhoea, nausea, and vomiting. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY Of the nonpharmacological approaches for managing CRF, exercise has the best evidence to support its effectiveness. Physical activity is strongly recommended for patients who have completed treatment. Improving strength, energy, and fitness through regular exercise has been shown to facilitate the transition from patient to survivor, decrease anxiety and depression, improve body image, and increase tolerance for physical activity even in patients who implement a moderate walking exercise program. Yoga and Tai Chi is a safe form of physical activity for people who are undergoing active treatment. ENERGY CONSERVATION Consider a daily and weekly diary that allows the you to ascertain peak energy periods and then plan activities accordingly within a structured routine. Look at prioritising activities and leaving nonessential activities for another time. Save energy by altering how you do your everyday activities such as using a bathrobe rather than a towel. EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL HEALTH Exercise programs, behavioural techniques including CBT, relaxation techniques, counselling, social support, hypnosis, stress reduction techniques including mindfulness/meditation and music therapy can be beneficial in improving fatigue by improving anxiety and depressive symptoms. IF FATIGUE DOES OCCUR, IT MAY BE A CONSEQUENCE OF YOUR TREATMENT AND IS NOT NECESSARILY AN INDICATION THAT THE TREATMENT IS NOT WORKING OR THAT YOUR CANCER IS PROGRESSING

25.01.2022 Please join our campaign by sharing our message. We need your help, because no one should miss out! A global coalition of 40 leaders from 17 organisations ...worldwide said in a call-to-action report that current oncology practice is "failing those with cancer" with regards to prescribing exercise rehab. There are so many people missing out due to a real lack of awareness. We believe this must change to minimise the risk of preventable long term disability and suffering for anyone affected by cancer. 16.01.2022 Hello Everyone! As we quickly near October, I am starting to plan for Breast Cancer Awareness Month as well as consider to how to do my part for the cancelled 24hr Fight Against Cancer fundraiser. I recently came across a young Macarthur resident who makes amazing little pots, but these are no ordinary pots, they have boobs! Her mother had breast cancer and as a side project she creates these pots and donates some proceeds of her sales to the 24hr Fight Against Cancer. After... a discussion with her, I thought it would be wonderful to use a silent auction to sell some of her pots and try raise as much money as possible for charity! After further consideration, I thought it would be amazing to involve the community and build up a portfolio of boob-related pieces such as sculptures, paintings, home décor, clothing, jewellery and more that could be donated and used in the auction. So, before I go getting all excited and ahead of myself, I thought I would jump on and test the waters to see if there are people out there who would be willing to get creative and donate their creations for a good cause! I have attached some examples to get the imagination going, so if you are keen to be a part please let me know! Thank you! Hope

09.01.2022 Patient Testimonial: The Positive Health Project is a much needed service in the Macarthur area. The founder of this important service is Hope Spencer and we often joke that Hope is aptly named as she provides hope for so many of us trying to find a new normal after the devastation of a cancer diagnosis. I think I was one of her first patients (if not the first patient) so I am proud to say that this service became available just when I needed it the most. I had just finished... my treatment for bladder cancer which unfortunately hit me hard and resulted in a rare and severe side effect called ‘reactive arthritis’. Just when I thought I was through the worst of the experience the arthritis meant that I was unable to walk and was in a quite a lot of pain. I was thrilled to find the Positive Health Project as Hope not only designed exercises to help me get moving again, she supported me emotionally and motivated me to keep moving forward. Post surgery and post treatment for cancer can be the hardest time of the journey so I think it is fantastic that Positive Health Project is now in place for people like me who are trying to rebuild our lives. 05.01.2022 Here at @thepositivehealthproject and @just.breathe.massage.therapy we are excited to let you in on a little secret with a sneak peek of what we have been working towards ..... more details to come

03.01.2022 Today is R U OK Day and this year's message is 'There's more to say after R U OK?' This is a vital question to ask as people affected by cancer are at increased risk of suicide. Learn what to say next so you can have a conversation that could change, or even save, a life.

02.01.2022 Today is 10 years since I lost my Nan... the hurt is still very raw especially on days like today. She battled cancer multiple times and it was the drugs that they used to save her from cancer that ended up dams going her heart so much it failed. Back then I was only in university, I didn’t know what I know now. I know that cardiotoxicity is a thing and that we should be doing more to educate and address the side effects of cancer and it’s treatment. I hope my clinic can help prevent someone from loosing their loved one like I lost mine.... that is the ultimate goal.

01.01.2022 Excited to say that starting next week I will be undergoing training to become a lymphoedema therapist! I believe that people with lymphoedema are under supported in the Macarthur area and deserve more treatment options and services! I can’t wait to do my training along side Rebecca from Just Breathe Massage Therapy so we can work together to optimise cancer care in our region!!
