10.01.2022 From the workshop this week is this Whiting stick for a customer order. There are several considerations in building a rod for Whiting fishing. Length is the first - 6’ or 7’ for out of the boat. The blank budget is next Seeker/Sabre Calstar E-Glass have been the go to blank for Whiting due to their reliability, they are more forgiving with a lovely soft tip for sensitivity. Blank Budget $170. MHX have a carbon blank SJ842-MHX which is not as forgiving as the E glass blank, ...doesn’t take kindly to high sticking it as it will break. Budget $113.00. If you’re fishing deeper water then EG196-6 or something in the Calstar range which are heavier. Most of the Whiting sticks built for SA have a longer rear grip, usually 10-12 so it can be comfortable under your armpit. A 6 front grip is ok. Guides if you’re using mono you can use cheaper Fuji KW & KL Fazlite ring, braid you would want KW,KL Alconite and upwards. See more

09.01.2022 From the workshop this week is an old Sabre GF670 rebuild. I've used Gudebrod Electra gold and silver for the block and deluxe trims. This customer wanted something different & outstanding so I have spent extra time doing additional trimming work instead of the standard colour block and trims. Using silver for the main block colour has meant I can choose from a broader brand range of components as I'm not trying to find an exact colour match.
