25.01.2022 Another excellent Zoom meeting at the Rotary Club of Springwood with two great guest speakers. Firstly, Channel 9 Journalist, Kelly Fedor, who was also a Past Rotary Youth Exchange student sponsored by our Club some years back.Kelly spoke so well and with humour and obvious pleasure about her life and job as a journalist. A wonderful talk and many great questions asked. Second, Past District Governor and Club Member Paul Erickson explaining the structure of Rotary from Dist...rict level onwards. A wonderful clear explanation given by Paul and so good to add to the Rotary knowledge of both new and older members in this interesting and informative way. Im looking forward to future Zoom Speaker nights after this great start. Thank you Bronwyn for the terrific report on tonights meeting. It truly was a great meeting.
23.01.2022 LEST WE FORGET This year we saw a very different ANZAC day as many of us stood at the end of our driveways to commemorate, many listening to the last post as it drifted through the valleys. A very moving time at the best but this year more so. We thank Fred Thompson (Charter Member) for laying a wreath at the Springwood Cenotaph on our behalf and Yvonne Meehan for the candle. (Alas, someone else liked the candle and has taken it) Our club have started to gather together for our meetings via ZOOM with great success. Tonight we have another meeting with more members joining in. We hope you are all staying safe and hope that if you need any help please contact us if the need arises.

21.01.2022 This morning The Rotary Club of Springwood assisted with a variety fundraiser Golf Day at the Springwood Country Club. Our first large scale BBQ under the new COVID protocols. Well done all members and participants it was a great success!
21.01.2022 Monday June 29th was the end of the Rotary Club of Springwood 2019-2020 board. As invited members and guest gathered at the Ori Hotel to celebrate what started out as another year of fundraising, collaboration and support to the community and beyond, many activities came to a halt in March because of Covid-19. The 2019-2020 year started out with drought then bushfires as well as floods with the second half greatly affected by Covid-19. It certainly was a turbulent year for o...ur club but we still managed to donate a total of over $31,512. The bulk of it going towards the following: Cambodia Village Project, Centurion Foundation, Bowel Scan, Club donations to Rotary Foundation, Taree and Mid Coast Bushfires Appeal, South Coast Flood relief, Rotary Club Blackheath Bushfire Appeal, Shelter Box, Rotary Health, ROMAC, Juvenile Diabetes, Destin Rescue, Interplast, Variety Club, Hat Day (Mental Health), Wentworth Community Housing, Care Flight, Talking Gazette and Gluten Free Christmas Hampers. Outgoing President David thanked his board as well as having the pleasure of announcing 3 Paul Harris Fellows, Jenny Thomas, Frank Ross and Richard Bell (Friend of Rotary) and the Duncan Berriman Award going to Valda Bray. The Rotary Hero awards went to two ladies from Bunnings, Di and Sonya, along with our own Marilyn Kenny (Marilyn has been keeping our club in contact each week with all our Zoom meetings along with Coffee Mornings for members and friends of Rotary) We also had the pleasure of celebrating a Charter member Alan Chameron's 90th Birthday with a cake. As per current regulations, the incoming board members, partners, and friends will be meeting up at The Ori next Monday night to see the start of another year of the Rotary Club of Springwood. Following from that, our club will still be meeting via Zoom until the regulations of group gatherings change when we can all meet together. We all wish Jenny K all the best for her and the board for 2020-2021.
20.01.2022 Rotary Club of Springwood Bushfire Fundraiser! Wow!!! I have to thank so many people for making this fundraiser such a success! This event was run over the last 2 weekends when we were officially on our break! Many members and friends of Rotary were recovering from the smoky air and respiratory conditions associated with this. Some were not able to get back to the Mountains easily from holiday destinations due to the fires and road closures but we managed to cobble together... a team of very enthusiastic volunteers who willingly gave much of their time to help raise funds for those affected by the devastating fires across Australia. Recovery from fires takes a long time not just days and weeks but years, as some of us are acutely aware. Rotary Clubs from all over Australia assisted us in 2013 after our terrible fire event here in the Mountains and I felt helpless watching the news unfolding and the extent of the devastation. I was looking for some way to help when Bunnings Valley Heights offered us the extra BBQs. I went to see Sonya (Bunnings) to ask about the possibility of a fundraiser and she kindly donated a lovely Cumquat Tree and Planter Pot which we turned into a Money Tree with the addition of a $100 Bunnings Gift Card and 30 scratch and win lottery tickets, as well as offering to help with costs. When I approached Warren from Springwood Printing Company about raffle tickets he offered to supply and print 500 tickets at no cost to the Cluba very generous donation! So armed with my tickets and prize I put out the call to members and Friends to assist on the 4 days and the response was great. A special thank you to Valda for her enormous effort in raffle ticket sales! The winner was Merry from Warrimoo! Ticket 380!!! We had some fun days some warm and humid some very wet but very welcome rain! The result will be close to $3000 This will be shared between Blackheath Rotary and RAWCS Bushfire appeal My thanks go to many Warren Springwood Printing; Sonya, Di and her team from Bunnings Valley Heights; Margaret & Roger Bowen (Friends of Rotary); Valda Bray, Geoff Glassock, Roza Parker, Jenny Thomas, Marilyn & Colin Kenney, Paul & Suzanne Erickson, Bronwyn Berriman, Jenny Kroonstuiver, Peter Meehan, Gregg Josey, Dee Covington, Deana Atkins, Rachel Pagitz, John Fuller, Sherril Daly, Carrie Graham, Richard Bell and President David Rayner. Thanks also to Ross Ingram, Cheryl & Norm and Joanna for their offers of help and to all those members and friends who purchased tickets in support of the raffle! Warm regards and thank you! PP Margaret Bell

18.01.2022 One of the biggest announced cancellations is the 2021 Australia Day/Gnome Convention event. A beloved event of the Rotary Club of Lower Blue Mountains for the community. We know that this will come as an enormous disappointment, not only to the stall holders, entertainers and members of Parliament who were due to attend the event, but also to the businesses and families in the community. This is not a decision we have taken lightly and there are two overriding concerns that ...have caused us to make this decision at this time. First is the current social distancing regulations. This announcement makes the probability of factors outside our control forcing us to cancel. Our primary concern is always the responsibility we feel towards our stall holders, members and members of the community. Second, works will be underway in Glenbrook Park by the Blue Mountains City Council and the health and safety of everyone is a priority. In the meantime, thanks for your patience and understanding -- and we look forward to seeing our community and fellow gnomie’s at the Australia day and Gnome Convention 2022! Best wishes, Michele Ellery 2020-21 President Rotary Club of Lower Blue Mountains
18.01.2022 Last night we met again via Zoom were we saw more members faces embracing modern technology. It is that part of the year when we are starting to wind up and also set up for the new incoming board and directors. It was great to hear our club received a Bronze Award for our support of Shelter Box. Covid 19 has not stopped our club collecting old unused and cleared computers to be donated to disadvantaged students in our local area. If you, or someone you know, have a computer they no longer require please let us know. We had as guest speaker Janette from Interplast who spoke about how lives have been dramatically changed by volunteer nurses and plastic surgeons. Our members have been having a well earned break and are all keen to get back to doing what we do best, serving our community, hopefully in the not too distant future.
17.01.2022 Another great zoom meeting last night. Lots of laughs and lots of information, discussions and ideas on how best to support our community - locally and internationally.

12.01.2022 There has been so much written and talked about around the shocking isolation people in aged care and their families are feeling. My family has felt it too, in ...spite of the lovely carers my 90 year old Dad has in his aged care home, with whom he loves a chat. We know we are welcome to phone the main number to have a handset taken round to him at any time but we also know how busy the staff are, and like most people we limit it and friends are reluctant to make non-essential calls. Knowing that another full lockdown could occur, I searched for a mobile option that Dad could use. He has never mastered a regular mobile handset, and I was hopeful Id discovered a winner when I found a mobile phone that looks like an old desk phone. I put in a SIM card with a 365 day life, as I didnt expect Dad to make calls out. The look on Dads face, below, the first time it rang and he picked up the handset to hear his sons voice, says it all. For less than $200, this has transformed Dads days and he now gets regular calls from kids and grandkids, his fellow Springwood Rotarians, and old friends. He typically answers the phone within a couple of rings and we all feel were less bother to the carers when we call for a chat. Such a simple thing that really should be available for every resident who might be able to pick up an old-fashioned handset. Easy for the resident, easy to buy, easy to install and what a game-changer for some. For us there was another delightful surprise - a message from Mum early one evening to me saying Dad had called her because he just wanted to hear her voice even though shed spoken to him only a few hours earlier. Neither of us imagined he was paying attention when I programmed Mums number in, but he clearly didnt miss a trick on a device that felt familiar. And I know people will ask: its an Olitech phone bought online, with an Aldi 365 day $5 SIM card. #agedcare #beatisolationblues #auspol #olitech #covid19 #seniors #bluemountains #hawkesbury #macquarie 2GB 873 - Sydney Talk Radio ABC Sydney The Hawkesbury Gazette Blue Mountains Gazette The Rotary Club of Springwood Inc.
12.01.2022 Thanks go to PP Pat Ainslie along with Friends of Rotary, including Alan, Janne, Alan G, Leigh with Margaret & Roger for their commitment each month to maintain the International Friendship Garden at Buttenshaw Park. After a lack of attention for a few years Springwood Rotary wanted to create a garden for all to enjoy. In 2012/13 the garden was redesigned in conjunction with the Blue Mountains Sister City Committee. All that was left of the previous garden were some trees... and the rock edging. The first area to get a overhaul was the Japanese Garden. Now all the garden beds are complete. There is also a park bench named in honour of 2 of our charter members Fred and Alan. If anyone wants to help on the first Saturday of each month, message us with your contact details and we'll make sure Pat gets in touch with you. Blue Mountains Sister Cities Committee See more
11.01.2022 In Year 9, 10 or 11 and want to find out more about studying abroad through Rotarys youth exchange next year?
10.01.2022 Even though we can't gather face to face, the Rotary spirits of fellowship and service and a focus on what we can do for the community remains strong with our weekly meeting transferred to Zoom!
10.01.2022 To do our bit for the bushfire affected communities, thanks to the support of Bunnings Valley Heights we will be fundraising through our BBQ sausage sizzle. Come and buy a sausage this weekend - we'll be there on Saturday and Sunday 18th and 19th! If you can't make it on the day, you can also make donations to Rotary's 2019-20 Bushfires Appeal https://donations.rawcs.com.au/68-2019-20 All funds raised will go directly to the bushfire affected Rotary Districts to enable their support and to help them rebuild.
10.01.2022 BOTTLE TOPS and TABS update From Norm Kitto who has the latest update. Happy New Year to you all.... It is sad that I advise you all that Envision have now formally announced they will no longer be producing the mobility aids and therefore are no longer accepting the bottle tops. So please NO MORE BOTTLE TOPS. I take this opportunity to thank Lynda for acting as our collection point and Frank for arranging the Hospital collection of 100's of tops and to everyone else who collected for the cause. I have been following up a few leads but at this stage have not found a new organisation who will accept the thousands I have stored. Yours in Rotary Norm Kitto PP,PHF In regard to the bread tags we will NO LONGER REQUIRE those as well.
09.01.2022 Since the Coronavirus Isolation laws, we have ceased meeting once a week including our monthly Bunnings BBQs and any other events etc, but Rotary is still going on in the background. A call went out to the community from DARE Disability regarding some basic needs for their clients and the Rotary Club of Springwood was able to supply some much needed goods thanks to Norm Kitto. Communication has taken on a different form via different Medias. Rotary has adopted Zoom with gre...at success. Our Rotary District, whilst facing many challenges are organizing training for the incoming Club Office bearers and Boards. This training will be conducted online and over several weekends. Our Board will hold its first Zoom meeting soon, with the year coming to a rapid end, it is crucial to make sure that we are organized and set President Elect Jenny Kroonstuiver and her team up for a successful year. As we will not be having a Change Over Dinner this year to hand over a cheque, raised funds thus so far will be transferred to the Rotary Foundation. As we head into a very different Easter break when traditionally most families would spend time catching up and enjoying a well-earned break, we hope you will stay safe and in touch with each other via phone or facetime. Aim to make this isolation time worth something. Start with a small positive habit and then build on it, by the time we are back to being able to move around freely you will have adopted a new habit, all thanks to the time you were able to fully embrace it. Stay safe everyone. See more
09.01.2022 Happiest of 90th birthdays to one of the Club's Charter members - and a true Springwood icon - Alan Cameron. Alan is a Past President of the Club and also a Paul Harris Fellow. The Club has much to thank Alan for and is grateful for his continuing support and involvement in the Club - in fact prior to COVID-19 Alan and fellow Charter Member Fred Thompson were still greeting members each week to our meetings! We were delighted to be able to celebrate your special occasion albeit in a scaled down version at the Changeover dinner and wish you a wonderful day today on behalf of all our members and the many in the community you've helped over such a long involvement with Rotary. Congratulations Alan!
09.01.2022 Dont let a little rain put you off - the sausages are hot & tasty & for a good cause!

03.01.2022 What to do in the mean time? We can all take this opportunity to take a break and a breath. Time to slow down and smell the roses. Organise the photo collection you keep promising you would do one dayNow is the time. Tackle the garden in a more reflective view and then sit back in it and enjoy a coffee and cake. Miss coffee and chats with friends? Organise a time with them that they are free and make a coffee at home then ring them. You are still catching up for a coffee and... chat in the comfort of your own home. This is a great opportunity to go through your wardrobe and start a donate bag of past favourites. Make a lunch then drive to a lovely spot with a view and enjoy this great country. Were spoilt for choice. Go for a walk locally and enjoy your neighbours gardens, you may come back with some ideas that you never saw because you always drive past. Hope this helps fill in your time until we meet again. If you would like to still help Rotary please send your donations to the Rotary Foundation to enable us continue to support our Australian community. https://www.rotary.org/en/donate See more
