10.01.2022 Hello everyone, In this currently ever-changing environment, we think it is prudent at this time to close down the hotel. At this stage, we will re-open in April. But we can’t predict what the immediate future looks like. Melissa and Frank are still currently overseas, but are trying to get earlier flights back. They will then need to self-isolate for 2 weeks.... We feel it is unfair to put a strain on George to bear this burden himself. We also truly feel, that at least for the moment, one less restaurant on the street will make it easier for the other restaurants and cafes to make ends meet, support them while you can, they’re going to be trying their hardest to keep you safe. As you probably know, we have other businesses and can struggle through, without running the George. We’d like to thank all of you that know and love the George. We appreciate you, your business, your friendship and the laughs. Cheers All of us here at the Royal George

09.01.2022 Hi everyone, we’re deciding to close again for a while. These times are a little stressful for us working in restaurants. We assume that it’s all going to close down anyway. So see you on the other side. WEAR A MASK. KEEP YOUR DISTANCE. BE NICE TO EACH OTHER. Also here’s a picture of a #lastword. It’s our favourite cocktail.

08.01.2022 The last couple of months has thrown up a lot of challenges for everyone. Including us. It has meant having to close the Royal George for the last four months. I guess one thing that lock down does, is it gives you time to re-evaluate. To that end, we have moved our other business Kabinett, out of its home for the last eleven years, into the Royal George. It's a grand old building and Kabinett seems to have re-invented itself in its new home. We are also introducing a ...botanical bottleshop, Botanik. Plants and booze together at last! Think vermouth, amaros and aperitifs. Absinthes, Genepis and digestifs. We will be stocking lots of bitters and sipping vinegars (shrubs), including our own brand BItterwind. Sitting on the shelves next to the booze will be a curated range of indoor plants and succulents, as well as new and vintage barware. Which brings us to the Royal George. With the current, and let’s not forget potential announcements, we feel that our dining offering should be limited! The Front Bar will be running two small rooms during the day, with Covid restriction's, we'll be able to sit 10 people. At night, we will be able to seat 14 at any one time. To start with, we'll just be serving a small selection of tapas/snacks. And drinks. A tight wine list with Internationals placed evenly with some of our favourite locals. As well as our super cocktails and neat selection of beers on tap. If and when things loosen up, this will change. But like everyone else we'll have a pretty steep learning curve. We will be following strict cleaning and sanitising protocols, socially distancing and be very strict with maximum amounts of customers in the building at one time. We're opening on Saturday 11 July. We're really excited about this new phase. I think we're pivoting! We’re looking forward to having you in again. But space will be at a premium. BOOKINGS: We will only be accepting bookings via the phone, we want to make sure you understand how serious we will be about everyone’s health, as well as meeting your expectations.
