19.01.2022 Only 5 days left!! Do you remember this awesome piece of kit created by the wonderful Izzy? Having never really been the type of person that wears a prostheti...c, except to prevent me falling into hedges on my bike, watching Izzy create this incredible arm has certainly changed my point of view. Not only did she push the boundaries of what is possible, but she smashed all preconceptions that I had, and totally nailed it with this arm, and not only is it a standout piece of engineering, but also waaaaay snazzy and completely mind blowing. Izzy is certainly one to watch as shes up to even more funky and creative shenanigans with prosthetics, so watch out for her in the future! by Ellie #3dprinting #prosthetics #challengewhatspossible #anythingispossible #rhino3d #disabled #creative #design #engineering

18.01.2022 One year ago today I started my second Volvo Ocean Race with the great team of Vestas 11th Hour Racing. Little did I know what ride I was in for from personal ...heartache to leg winning highs to devastating lows. If I had to power to change it, I probably would fix some of it. But the truth is this race and this year has made me the person I am today. Not always tough or brave, sometimes scared, happy when I can be. But always grateful for the experiences. See more
17.01.2022 Today we had a visit from the next generation of female sailors, it was a great afternoon of education and inspiring the girls as well as the opportunity to sho...w them around the Wild Oats X and talk about the importance of sustainability and what steps we are taking on-board our boat which they could take to their own boats including switching to reusable drink bottles. Every little bit counts!! Thank You for the visit and good luck to you all in your upcoming racing and see you on the water. #Optichicks 11th Hour Racing NSW International Optimist Dinghy Association, Rolex Sydney Hobart #cleanseas
17.01.2022 The sheer extent of microplastic pollution in the worlds oceans has been making global headlines. Heres how one Volvo Ocean Race sailor Liz Wardley played her part in finding a solution.
16.01.2022 Today Lisa Blair Sails the World has set off on her Australian world record attempt to become the first woman to solo non stop circumnavigate Australia. Lisa is... no stranger to such a challenge and already holds the record for the first woman to sail solo around Antarctica. Departing from dAlboras Marina in Rushcutters Bay Lisa is sailing anti-clockwise round the entire coastline of Australia, including Tasmania. The 6,536 nautical mile voyage will take approximately six weeks and presents even more challenges than her Antarctica adventure. One of her biggest obstacles will be other sea traffic, as well as reefs and constant changes in wind direction and weather, including the impending cyclone season. These challenges will be a constant presence meaning sleep will be a luxury, limited to 20 minute stints! Good luck Lisa we will be following your progress closely over the next few weeks. Follow Lisa on the tracker at https://gis.ee/lb/ and on Facebook/Twitter @LisaBlairSails

12.01.2022 "I think that its a brilliant use of an old warhorse yacht that has already logged hundreds of thousands of miles. Maiden is painted in the same livery she had... during the Whitbread and looks like a brand new yacht. Some of the women that will be sailing on the boat over the next two years had not even been born back when Tracy and her team did the Whitbread. I hope that this tour is a huge success and it opens up the eyes to the potential women have all over the world and to the contribution that they can make toward bettering the lives of all of us who inhabit this blue marble." https://www.sailfeed.com/20//the-maiden-factor-world-tour/

10.01.2022 What an exciting weekend of sailing! Not only were we excited to win the event we are even more pleased to report on our total rubbish from the 3 days on the wa...ter. After 3 days on the water with 8 crew, our total rubbish to take off the boat was........2 x muesli bar wrappers!! How did we do that you ask?? Very easily! Lunches - Provided from an amazing local cafe in reusable Tupperware Containers Snacks / Protein Balls - Also provided from an amazing local cafe in reusable Tupperware Containers Water - Each crew had 2 reusable water bottles which were filled from the dock each day before we leave for racing. Its a refreshing feeling to leave the boat at the end of a day or even regatta knowing that we have not added to unnecessary landfill. The Australian Womens Keelboat Regatta - AWKR did a great job on this as well and next year we challenge every competitor to bring their own reusable keepcup for their morning coffee just like our team does with their YETI Australia. #saynotosingleuseplastic #cleanseas #Yeti 11th Hour Racing

03.01.2022 BLOG POST BY BELINDA HENRY 18/03/19 On board Maiden, we continue to battle with the heat. To escape, the girls are using materials sourced around the vessel to... give us shade, from creating a Bedouin style tent (rigged under the boom at the mast and across the deck to the shrouds) to a rain umbrella lashed to a stanchion to give the helmsmen some much sort after relief from the scorching rays. Despite the heat, all maintenance and duties must continue. In the shade of the morning sun hidden behind the mainsail, Courtney and Wendy attacked the refuelling mission. They wrestled with 15 jerry cans of diesel to top up our fuel tanks! And Tilly climbed onto the boom to work with the reef lines. Wendy has been hosting evening weather lessons with wendo! Tonights lesson became interactive as the large dark ominus squall rapidly approached and the cloud un leashed all its all its water upon us. Was a huge welcomed relief from the heat! Another great day on the water.
