25.01.2022 Were excited to share with you the latest photographs of Kubirri Aged Care Centre! The final stages of the build completed on 10 July and we have begun hiring for a variety of roles. We look forward to continuing to engage with the local community during this phase. As you can see from the photographs, the gardens are establishing well and the interior is beautifully lit. Watch this space for further updates.

25.01.2022 Substance with style! It's essential to have a mask these days. #Maybanke Aged Care Centre got busy with making their own environmentally-friendly masks. These masks are comfortable, washable and allow for easy removal of the nose wire for washing or replacement. It has a pocket for filter and if you prefer fastening around the head, ear elastics can be easily removed and replaced with a larger band. The masks have the recommended three layers of fabric and are good for non-medical situations where masks are recommended, but not compulsory e.g. shopping, on public transport, etc. They are available in different colours and on sale for $10/piece. Proceeds of the sales will go towards funding of more fun lifestyle activities for the residents. #TheSalvationArmy #agedcare #funkymasks #maskup#TheSalvationArmy #agedcare #funkymasks #maskup

24.01.2022 Some fun pictures from Christmas in July celebrations at the #Moyne Aged Care Centre . #christmasinjuly

24.01.2022 Stunners! Nola and Casper from Gill Waminda Aged Care Centre posed for our cameras (Casper decided that right was his better side lol!). Therapy dogs undergo special training before being used in our aged care homes. The joy they bring to residents (and staff) is obvious, but pet therapy is also backed with formal research which shows benefits such as decreased blood pressure and stress, improved communication and motor skills and a general moral boost for everyone in aged care homes #gillwaminda #animaltherapy

23.01.2022 This year, Sunita Shah was nominated for The Salvation Army Aged Care 2020 Nurse of the Year Award. The Award was created to celebrate all of the wonderful work that our nurses do and to acknowledge the World Health Organizations International Year of the Nurse and Midwife. Sunita is a Registered Nurse at Elizabeth Jenkins Place Aged Care Centre in New South Wales and she says that, working in the aged care sector can be an extremely rewarding and fulfilling career. You can read more about Sunitas work as a nurse on our website. https://fal.cn/3axfF #agedcare #ElizabethJenkinsPlace #ournursemidwife2020

23.01.2022 Threat from the pandemic could not dampen the spirit of the 60th Queensland Seniors Week. We have been thrilled to open the brand new Kubirri Aged Care Centre in Mossman earlier this week, welcoming our very first residents; The Cairns Aged Care Centre in Chapel Hill hosted a physically-distanced, socially-connected concert and party while the residents from Riverview Gardens enjoyed wishing their fellow residents in other buildings a Happy Seniors Week with their placard mes...sage. Confusion was replaced with pools of laughter and applause from those watching from the balcony as the unruly placard holders representing the different letters finally manage to stand beside the correct letters to spell Seniors Week. The day concluded with a good old-fashioned BBQ. Happy Seniors Week everyone! #TheCairns #RiverviewGardens #kubirri #seniorsweek2020 #queenslandseniors See more

20.01.2022 We conclude this week with some photos of the Bastille Day celebrations at Woodport Aged Care Centre from earlier in the month. The residents took an armchair trip to France to indulge in delicious French cuisine and learn more about its history, culture and some recalled their past experiences. The trip concluded with afternoon tea in a crepe bar overlooking the Eiffel Tower or was it across the street from the Louvre Museum? Maybe it was a humble bar tucked away in the ba...ckstreets that only the local crepe connoisseurs knew about The Armchair Travel is a sensory experience where our residents and staff collectively plan and organise trips to exotic places to learn new things and recall past experiences, all without having to leave their home! It has been a hit with residents with everyone already planning their next tour! #woodport #bastilleday2020 #armchairtravel

19.01.2022 When two of our favourite people turn 18 with 72 years of experience, we know it's time for a (socially distanced) party! HAPPY 90th BIRTHDAY Richard and Amy! Thanks Richard for the enthusiasm with which you embrace life; for the numerous activities around the Centre that you get involved and help out with, and for always reminding us to "drive safely" as we head home after shifts. Thanks Amy for your big smiles, your love for animals, music and dance and for your resilience. Best wishes and big hugs to you both. #CarpenterCourtAgedCare #birthdayvibes #90thBirthday

19.01.2022 Robert, our resident at #Maybanke Aged Care got a wonderful surprise performance from the #Chatswood Salvos Band. Robert is a much loved former member of the band. We accommodated the band in our outdoor garden while maintaining social distance from the residents. Robert, his son John and the rest of the Maybanke residents were thrilled to watch and listen from their warm and cosy foyer. Thank you Chatswood Salvos Band for your thoughtfulness. #musictherapy

19.01.2022 Afternoon fun playing the game of 'pin-the-dentures' @Moyne Aged Care Centre. This was followed by quoits and some groovy dancing! Everyone's exhausted and looking forward to putting their feet up and relaxing after such a fun day #TheSalvationArmy #agedcare #livingwell #healthyaging #Moyne

18.01.2022 Country humour at its best during the #COVID-19 restrictions. Residents and friends of #Moyne Aged Care Centre made light of all the seriousness by teasing our resident Colin. Colin (seated) loves fishing but was not able to join his friends due to the restrictions. After their fishing trip, his friends came for a window visit mostly to brag about how much fun they had. Since they could not speak through the glass, they had to communicate through a series of hilarious mimes ...including showing off their catch (paper fish attached to fishing rods). Understandably, Colin pretended not to know them. We had a great time doing the photo shoot in honour of Father's Day and the party continues in our centres this weekend. We hope everyone is staying safe and still remembering to have some fun too! #TheSalvationArmy #agedcare #fathersday #happyfathersday See more

18.01.2022 "What do you call a person who runs towards danger to save others? Who is undaunted by disease, famine, drought, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, locusts, conflict zones - and now the COVID-19 pandemic? Would you call that person a hero? We would, too." Happy World Humanitarian Day! #RealLifeHeros #worldhumanitarianday

17.01.2022 The team at Bethany Aged Care Centre has been working on a Words of Wisdom project. Under this project, we tap into the wealth of experience and learnings from the rich lives of our amazing residents. These words will be framed and displayed throughout the Centre as a reminder to all of us on what really matters. #BethanyAgedCare #wordsofwisdom

17.01.2022 We continue to celebrate our nurses as its the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife. One of our superstar nurses, Damian Kelly, is the Centre Manager of Burrangiri Aged Care Respite Centre in Canberra. A registered nurse with a Post Graduate Diploma in Aged Care, Damian with his team provide adult day care and supported overnight respite (short term) care at Burrangiri. Being one of the few male nurses early in his career has been an interesting experience for him. H...e was 20-years-old and he says the decision to become a nurse was all about timing; he didnt know what nursing might entail but a friend referred him to an advert for student nurses placed in the local newspaper and that was the start of an interesting and fulfilling career Please click on the link below for a full interview with Damian about his work https://agedcare.salvos.org.au//nurse-profile-damian-kelly/ #TheSalvationArmy #agedcare #Burrangiri #ournursemidwife2020 See more

17.01.2022 #Parkes Flower Show could not happen this year but that didnt stop our residents at #Rosedurnate Aged Care Centre hosting their own show in the centre. Everyone was excited to put up their exhibits and celebrate the #Spring blossoms over morning tea. Bonnie, who won the flower show last year came back with another collection of beautiful orchids. The fragrant sweat pea flowers were also popular. We are working towards establishing more garden beds so the green thumbs within the centre can enjoy this as a hobby while getting some fresh air and exercise. Our veggie patch is already producing fresh lettuce and radish. #TheSalvationArmy #agedcare #springtime #healthyaging

17.01.2022 Residents from #Rosedurante Aged Care Centre really enjoyed a visit from their friends in #Moyne Aged Care Centre. Among them was Lucy, the rescue joey who took the limelight. Sharing with you a very happy Joan who did not want Lucy to leave.

16.01.2022 This September, its Dementia Awareness Month and the daughter of one of our residents, Joan, wishes us to share her story with you. Joans mum has dementia and she is being cared for by our team of experts at Macquarie Lodge Aged Care Centre. Here is Joans touching personal account of her coming to terms with her parents' dementia, her journey as a carer and eventually seeking help: https://agedcare.salvos.org.au//joans-journey-with-dement/

16.01.2022 In late November, a renovation reveal took place at #WarringahPlace Retirement Village. Over a number of morning sessions to take the COVID-19 restrictions into account, residents and staff were invited to view the space. They were given specially crafted morning tea boxes filled with delicious goodies and music was provided by a piano player who played on a beautiful white piano. Blue, yellow and white hues in the furniture and decorations give the room a beach-like feel, as you can see in the photos. #TheSalvationArmy #salvos #agedcare

15.01.2022 We are extremely proud of our three WWII veterans who received the 75th year commemoration medals for their contribution in the war. The Governor General Honourable David Hurley, presented each gentleman with a medal, certificate and the Rocky Hill Memorial statue at a socially distanced ceremony last week. We are most privileged to have Ronald, James and Peter as part of our family in Gill Waminda Aged Care Centre. Thank you to all that you have given to our wonderful country #VeteranStory75years #wwii #GillWaminda

14.01.2022 Sharing some happy snaps of Gary, our #Woodport Aged Care Centre resident who has started a new position volunteering at the Central Coast Animal Care Facility. Gary didn’t waste any time pulling up his sleeves the moment he had passed his orientation. Gary has been supported by his #NDIS Support Worker Lauren, who helped build his skills. Now Gary is giving back to his local community and sharing his love to his four legged friends. #TheSalvationArmy #salvos #agedcare #volunteer

14.01.2022 Leilanie Sagun decided to become a nurse when she was in grade school after calmly administering first aid one day to her Dad. Today, she is the Centre Manager at Woodport Aged Care Centre and she says that her family are her biggest inspiration. Our article featuring Lelianie's work can be found on our website: https://fal.cn/3bThs #TheSalvationArmy #salvos #agedcare #YearoftheNurse

12.01.2022 Sharing some photos from R U OK?Day event from The Cairns Aged Care Centre. The day was dedicated to activities centered around sharing and listening. Both residents and staff thoroughly enjoyed the experience and there were way too many cupcakes consumed during the day! We realise that 2020 has been a challenging year for many and asking the simple question R U OK? and knowing what we do thereafter is more relevant than ever before. Today is our national day of action wh...en we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? if someone in your world is struggling. And it doesnt end there. This years message is 'THERE'S MORE TO SAY AFTER R U OK?' You dont need to be an expert when someone replies that she or he is NOT ok. Please visit https://www.ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day to learn more on how to get the conversation going and being able to make the person feel supported and access the help they need. #TheSalvationArmy #agedcare #TheCairns #ruokday2020 #ruokeveryday #RUOK See more

12.01.2022 Chicks that came for Easter, and stayed. Carpenter Court Aged Care is home to two spoilt rotten chickens called Ester and April. Now nearly 4 months old, they're a constant source of entertainment for our delighted residents. Here are some snaps with residents from Day 1 to now. #animaltherapy

12.01.2022 We spoke with NDIS Program Coordinator Lynne Slevin in recognition of International Day of People with Disability which is acknowledged every year on 3 December. Lynne shared Bradley’s story with us. Bradley is one of our residents and he went scuba diving for the first time recently. Bradley is an incomplete quadriplegic after a mountain bike accident many years ago. He is unable to walk and uses a wheelchair to get around. Being submerged in the water, with the assistance of support workers, he was able to walk on the bottom of the swimming pool. When he got out, Lynne said that he was beaming. To read more about Lynne and her team’s inspiring work, head to our website: https://fal.cn/3bYLi #TheSalvationArmy #salvos #agedcare

12.01.2022 Showcasing some of the many amazing dads, grandads and great grandads in our aged care centres. Thanks for your love and contribution to our family, community, country and the world. Special thanks for the smiles, quirky humour and words of wisdom. 11.01.2022 Christmas in July was celebrated in The Cairns Aged Care Centre with much splendour as residents and staff dressed and danced to the happiness of the festive season. The hats and sparkly red and green outfits were on and residents helped decorate their centre and created table centrepieces for the occasion. The day began with walking club exercises rocking to the Christmas beat and sing-alongs followed by a relaxed morning tea of chocolate Christmas balls. A Christmas cooki...ng session was next followed by more sing-alongs. Christmas lunch menu included turkey and ham with roasted vegetables followed by traditional Christmas pudding with vanilla custard. The day ended with watching the movie Its a Wonderful Life and everyone loved the delicious White Christmas slice that residents had made earlier. We had a ball as everyone wished each other Merry Christmas and quite a few happy socially-distanced pictures were taken! #christmasinjuly #thecairns See more

10.01.2022 #Kubirri Aged Care Centre, which is located in Mossman, Queensland, was first conceived of as an idea by the local community 20 years ago. We are pleased to announce that today, Kubirri Aged Care Centre officially opened its doors and received its first resident. As more residents will be joining our Centre throughout the week and next week, please join us in welcoming them and in celebrating our wonderful team of staff who are on-site and in action making our new residents feel welcomed and at home. We would like to thank the local community including the Douglas Shire Council and the Government as well as the Mossman Nurses Association for all that they have contributed to the project. #TheSalvationArmy #agedcare #celebrate

10.01.2022 Residents of Gill Waminda Aged Care Centre took an Armchair Travel to America. With COVID-19 safe distancing measures first and foremost, passengers boarded from Gate 28 where attending crew stamped their passports and first-class tickets. The flight went to over 20 states in America. Passengers sang along to the Americana tunes and enjoyed an in-flight lunch of hot dogs, fries, potato salad, soda pop and had banana split to complete the meal. On the flight back, they settled back and watched 'True Grit'. The next trip takes us to incredible India and the seats are filling in fast #GillWaminda #armchairtravel

09.01.2022 Today is the conclusion of The Salvation Army's 40 Days of Prayer. At #Bethany Aged Care Centre residents and staff joined in prayer and symbolised this period by creating a paper prayer chain where they wrote and shared their cares and hopes, all joined together and hung at the Chapel for 40 days. Thank you dear residents and staff. Your prayers are much needed especially during these challenging times. #Salvos40daysofprayer

05.01.2022 We conclude the week with the spotlight on one of our everyday heros. Srijana Paude knew she wanted to work in the medical field since she was in 8th grade. While many of us as children were terrified of going to the doctors (and still are!) Srijana said that seeing a doctor, or a nurse used to give her a good feeling! She is now a Registered Nurse at Gill Waminda Aged Care Centre. Srijana is one of the two recipients of The Salvation Army Aged Cares 2020 Year of the Nurse Award. More on Srijana's story- https://agedcare.salvos.org.au//nurse-spotlight-srijana-p/ #yearofthenurse #everydayheros #Nurses2020
