19.01.2022 A TROPHY OF GRACE - POLL COTT (40 years in and out of prison and 257 Convictions) ..... Transported to Australia at the age of 16, Mary Mcguires life may have got back onto track after her marriage Jack Cott, but the death of her only baby. Her grief turned her to drunkedness and violence. She threatened and attacked all who confronted her. Mary "Poll Cott took what she wanted from shops and anyone attempting to stop her would receive a blow to the head from a lemonade bot...tle lethally wielded in an old sock! On 18 May 1885 Poll Cott was armed with a pair of scissors and intent on doing bodily harm to a railway porter at Maitland West, when Captain William Rundle stopped her and invited her to his home for lunch. A bemused Poll accepted, and immediately devised how she would steal from her host. Given a bed for the night, Poll Cott left it to suss out the place and was rocked when she overheard Captain and Mrs Rundle, with tears in their eyes, praying for her ..... At midnight Poll Cott was on her knees beside the Rundles, where she found Christ. At last finding peace, she lived a quiet Christian life for years until her restful death. See more
