24.01.2022 Among the craziness of 2020, the staff at The Sensory Gym are grateful for all that we have and recognise that many families are doing it tough. This year we are supporting The Smith Family Toy and Book Appeal. If you wish to join us in spreading joy this holiday season, please feel free to drop off a new book or new toy to reception. We are a registered collection centre and can receive gifts up to December 4th.

24.01.2022 Sadly Camp Jabiru September 2020 has been cancelled due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions. Please call (02) 4578 9799 or email The Sensory Gym if you have any questions.

24.01.2022 A reflection from Colleen Hacker: Camp Jabiru 2020 is cancelled. Again. Theres simply no other way to say it it sucks. In a year unlike any other we have experienced, the losses and disappointments of 2020 continue to accumulate. Some days are harder than others. Some days, it is difficult to find a bright side. We so wanted to make Camp Jabiru 2020 happen. We so wanted a joy reset. We so wanted to bring community together in a way that is powerful and sustain...ing. That is what Jabiru does, and it is what we are missing in a year that has often kept us isolated and separated. We are having to be so creative in how we connect. It can be hard to find the meaning in this time, and I am on constant quest for meaning. My brain hurts from thinking. My heart hurts from my own disappointment and the continued loss and disappointment experienced by those closest to me. When Jabiru was cancelled (again), the missed opportunity for community and connection was the greatest loss for us all. So my deep breath and bright note for today is that The Sensory Gym is 15 years old today. The community of Camp Jabiru is an outreach of the mission started at The Sensory Gym those 15 years ago. In these crazy times, reflection on how we show up in the world is important. And I am so proud to be one team member of The Sensory Gym and of Camp Jabiru. I am so grateful to all my fellow team members! Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. Margaret Mead

24.01.2022 A reminder that we are closed today, Monday 7th September, for general cleaning and maintenance. Well reopen for regular sessions tomorrow.

23.01.2022 The Sensory Gym would love to thank Sheila M Frick OTR for presenting From Sensation to Function over the weekend. We have lots of new ideas and had a ball!

23.01.2022 Welcome to Virtual Camp Jabiru 2020! We at The Sensory Gym are heartbroken that we cannot be with you in person and share with you the magical experience that would have been Camp Jabiru 2020. At its very essence Camp Jabiru is about connection, and during this time of uncertainty and disruption, connection is more important than ever! We know that many of you will also be missing our time together. So please join us in our virtual Jabiru experiences! A private facebook g...roup has been set up for our virtual camp. Please click on the link to join www.facebook.com/groups/701403863701345/ There will be a Jabiru challenge posted each day this week (starting 20/4) that you can enjoy with your family or other loved ones! At the end of the week, we will be posting a virtual campfire. We hope you will share in the fun and laughter that were part of creating the virtual campfire! We also encourage you to post your favourite Camp Jabiru memories or thoughts to share with the rest of the Camp Jabiru tribe. Wed love to hear from you, and wed love to keep the spirit of Jabiru close this week! I have so many memories of Jabiru, its hard to single out just one! I only know after 31 years of being part of camp programs as an occupational therapist, the week of camp is still my favourite week of the year. The closing campfire of each Jabiru brings smiles and tears of gratitude and wonder in equal measure. It is hard to rival the experience of sitting at the back of the group during that last campfire and witnessing all of the connection and collected beingness that has been nurtured and nourished during the week. A special shout-out to the entire team of The Sensory Gym for being the amazing people you are. You have risen to the challenge of these unknown times with grace, humour, and a continued sense of team. Thank you! Id also like to acknowledge Lynette Burke for all that she did in her two weeks of quarantine to ready the team for the changes ahead as well as calm my angst through the sea of uncertainty. Finally, Id like to thank Elise Harley for running with my desire to create a virtual campfire experience that we could all share. She put herself forward in a way that is not always comfortable for her. Elises heart always speaks louder than her reservations. We hope to see you all online. Regards The Jabiru Team

21.01.2022 The Sensory Gym will be closing for clinic-based therapy sessions at the end of business on Friday, 27-03-20. We feel that this is a responsible action that looks out for our clients and our Sensory Gym team. Phone calls and emails will continue to be monitored at the clinic, though not necessarily on a daily basis. Your best point of contact is your individual therapist. In this ever-changing and uncertain world, we recognize that continuation of services for children a...nd families is vital, and we are committed to being a stabilizing presence for you. Stability and continuity are important in a world that feels so unknown to us all. As such, we are moving our services to Teletherapy. If your therapist has not already been in touch to set up Teletherapy with you, please expect this conversation soon. Teletherapy services can encompass parent consultation, home program development, parent coaching, and direct therapy sessions. Once times for meeting have been agreed upon, your therapist will send you information about how to be ready for your session. This will include technology details as well as materials that may be needed for the session. We are all learning and adapting to this new situation, so there may be a few clunks initially; however, we are committed to working through any small glitches with you. These are strange and unfamiliar times for us all. Together, weve got this! Be well The Sensory Gym Team Kind Regards Colleen Hacker

17.01.2022 At The Sensory Gym, we remain committed to responding to the ever-changing information regarding the coronavirus. We continue with our enhanced hygiene practices including handwashing before and after sessions, hand sanitization as necessary within sessions, and disinfection of surfaces in the treatment rooms after each session. We are also encouraging appropriate social distancing. We have closed our ball pit and discontinued use of oral motor toys. Small lycra swings a...re still in use but will be washed between clients. As of March 18, we are also enacting the following: treatments will occur primarily in individual treatment rooms; we will permit 2 simultaneous sessions in the large treatment gym as there is adequate space for appropriate social distancing. We ask that parents wait in the car with their child until their therapist meets them to eliminate the number of people waiting in the reception area. we ask that only one person accompany each child in treatment and sit in the treatment room with the child rather than in the reception area. If parents and carers need to bring other children, we ask that you wait in your car or go to one of the nearby parks during the session we ask that parents and carers stagger the time that they go to reception to take care of invoicing; therapists will bring sign-in sheets for parents; it is only necessary to go to reception if payment is made on-site. Therapists will accompany clients back to their cars at the end of each session. We continue to monitor the situation carefully, and we are responding and adapting daily to the information that is being provided to us. We recognize that this situation is foreign to us all and that each family needs to make decisions about how to best respond in these times. We will continue to provide sessions in the clinic as long as we are able; however, we are also available for phone consultation, telehealth sessions, and consultation with other professionals on your childs team. Continuity and stability are important for all of us in these challenging times. Please speak directly with your childs therapist to determine the best plan moving forward for your child and your family. Kind Regards Colleen Hacker

17.01.2022 As a result of having to cancel our 2020 camp, there are no spots available for our 2021 Camp Jabiru.
